Thank you for wearing a mask despite not wanting to. Modeling positive response to the pandemic is very important. After all, we want you and others at these historic places to stay alive! I'm a loyal watcher and you've helped cement my faith that we will all get through this, but only if we're together in the fight! Be sure to wash your hands! Peace.
Oh thank you I learn something new each time I watch your videos.we may have things in our history we aren't proud of but it's our history.God Bless the USA.🖒🇺🇸💗
Thanx JD. My health isnt good anymore so my traveling days are about over. These tours you do are very helpful, bringing things to me that I cant get to. Great work man. ;-)
I have so MANY artifacts from TN and MS. I love Native American artifacts. Yeah.. Middle is drill. Bone for sewing. Arrowhead shape for cutting or mending to a bone arrow
Before the pandemic, showing up in that mask would make someone think it was a stick up. Loved the museum. Sergeant York the movie is wonderful. York wpuld only allow Gary Cooper to play him and the girl who played his wife had to be a young good girl. Cooper won the Oscar for it.
I always enjoy your video traveloges so much. Thank you. Seeing the KKK robe brought back a very disturbing memory. I'm 67 now, but when I was 19 and fairly newly married, my ex and I lived just off downtown Dallas, TX. One weekend he went camping with some friends, so I was home alone. About 2:00 AM I woke up to the sound of a repetitive drumbeat and saw a flickering light outside our duplex window. I peeked out and marching down the middle of the street was a KKK clan, beating drums and carrying torches. Other than that it was eerily quiet. The area we lived in was very racially diverse and I can only imagine how frightening it was to some of my neighbors. I'm white, but my parents raised me to understand the evil of slavery, racism and the KKK. To say I was disturbed is definitely an understatement. I wasn't normally afraid of being alone, but I didn't sleep another wink that night.
Appreciate how the curators of the museum accurately refer to him as "David" Crockett. David=The real man is as good as "Davy"=the myth. Thanks for another great video JD
Glad you talked about my ancestor Sgt York! I read a WW1 book & it didn’t mention him & it made me sad! I grew up just up the hill from his house in Pall mall TN & grew up talking to his Sons. So it made me happy to see you talk about him. His house & farm are a National Park now. They are very cool
@@doughill3396 that’s great to hear! You should go to pall mall soon…. They have made a lot of improvements & made his home & farm a lot more in-depth & accessible in just the last few years
Great Visit. Thanks. They have a Music Museum and display of various farm building and the Cabin that Mark Twain and his extended family lived in when he was a boy in Tennessee. Nice people in Tennessee. Good place to visit.
Very interesting and well made video as always. That clacker at 13:56 - when I was living in the UK as a teenager these were known as a football rattle - fans used them to make noise when cheering on their teams. I actually made one in woodworking class when I was around 13. I believe they were banned as they could be used as weapon and in those days "football hooligans" and mass fights were common at games. Interesting that they used them in the trenches...I didn't know that!
This is my back yard, how did I not know this was open!?! All the years of taking scouts across our state, did not know about this. We did go to the Alvin York's house and smallish museum. Thanks for sharing, I will have to plan a trip!!
That black with gold buttoned dress coat owned by gidden pillow is absolutely stunning. If only people dressed so amazing today.. tell u right now I ll rather be dressed up in my Sundays finest everyday rather than board shorts. Like my dad always said.... "nothing wrong with taking pride in how you look when you leave the house"
Darn. Almost missed this one. I must be getting old. (I blame everything I do on old age). Museums are great. Every time I see one I have to go in. My next trip is going to be the Civil war museum in Jefferson Barracks, MO.

I live and am from Nashville. There is also an ancient Egyptian mummy in the museum. Also in addition to mastodons, sabertooth tigers once roamed around here a long time ago, and inspired the Nashville Predators NHL hockey team logo. :)
Since your close by, in Owensboro, Kentucky there is a memorial to the last P.O.W from Vietnam- Col. Charles E. Shelton. One day, I am going to go up there to pay my respects. Another awesome video thank you so much JD.
Just started watching your videos. Recommended by Sidestep Great videos love traveling and learning with you. Plus you look like a young Gerald McRaney. One of my favorite actors. Thanks again looking forward to bing watching.
Enjoyed the video very much! I do think it's worth mentioning that the clan was/is not exclusive to Southern states. It's diseased ideologies spread to many Northern states, and really all over the country in the 1920s.
Be prepared to have the hairs go up on your neck. I'm not a follower of these things but there is a presence at Civil War battle grounds. Ghosts? I don't know but....
Interesting history note for Tennessee residents . My County of Burke North Carolina was largest in Colonial times reached all the way to Mississippi which is now your state . I’m not totally sure about this, but I believe Santa Anna’s prosthetic leg was captured by a regiment out of Indiana or Illinois and I believe it is on display in one of those states
The History Underground Which mask of theirs are you wearing? They have several. Is it denim? Also, have you been to The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s home, just outside of Nashville? It’s outstanding. I love going to presidents’ house museums. I was particularly impressed with James Madison’s home in Virginia. It’s not as grand as The Hermitage or Monticello, but the docents’ stories are way better.
JP M - The mask that I have is the Model 4. It’s made from a super light stretchy material. As far as the Hermitage, I’ve got an episode on this channel where I visit there. Had a chance to see some cool behind the scenes stuff.
Alvin York's Medal of Honor may be at the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga, TN. I recently visited there and they had several MOHs on display but I can't remember if York's was one of them.
Not sure what day you visited the TN State Museum but the siren was probably the monthly test. In Williamson County (Franklin), they test the first Saturday of every month.
Your videos are great! However, linen isn’t made from cotton. It is made from the flax plant. You are correct in saying the slaves were involved in linen production.
Would love to see you do a peice on the CCC. You showed a pennant of theirs @ 15:34. That would be awesome for a future video! It's forgotten history unfortunately.
Very cool. If you swing back into Virginia on your quest for American presidents graves, look up camps Roosevelt and Powell's fort camp. One still has buildings to explore, Be it they are run down. But it is still cool to see what these men built with nothing but shovels.
Andrew Jackson didn't just have a tendency to challenge others to duel, he was known for trying to kill his opponents. In at least one case, he took an improper second shot after misfiring.
Hey man with the pieces of barbed wire. Alot of guys in the trenches use to take these pieces of metal back to their trenches cutoff the actual piece that was used to run barbed wire through then straighten out the piece towards the end they cut leaving the piece that the barbed wire was run through curved like a handle and straighten out the piece the cut into a blade. This was know as a French Nail.
Wow J.D., you are the luckiest man in the world in my opinion. Idk really but if you actually get paid and make this channel an actual occupation, but if so, this has got to be a wonderful opportunity. I dream of someday walking the beaches of Normandy, the fields of Gettysburg or just being close to Eric dorr and his absolutely wonderful museum. Count this as a blessing, because if you are at all as interested in this type of stuff as me,you are a very blessed individual. I absolutely love it man!
Correction: Cotton becomes cotton cloth. Flax becomes linen cloth. And, the museum's label of "crucifix" was incorrect, it is the 'corpus' from a crucifix.
Does your chronic asthma make you more susceptible to illness? I’m just curious. I don’t know anyone close to me with it, so I know next to nothing about it. Be well, my friend. ✌️
