👉👉 This method works better than the solar panel that has the integrated battery, like this one: ua-cam.com/video/Lq-5zBVW5MI/v-deo.html
Love your hat! I have one too. EE ‘76.
I have built solar power stations for 5 of my own cameras and a lot more for friends - that I maintain.
The best solution I found is to get a solar panel with plenty of efficiency so that it works in partial shade or cloudy weather.
I’m in FL so cold isn’t a big factor for my SLA batteries. But my solar panels put out 20+ volts on a sunny day.
So I have a voltage regulator in-line that caps the voltage at 13.7V for charging. Without that, the small SLA batteries will easily over-charge and be destroyed.
I don’t use ammo boxes. Walmart has clear weatherproof boxes that are excellent for this purpose.
These are outstanding and make remote game cameras painless.
Thanks for the info!!
Been useing this setup for 6 yrs. I insulate the inside of ammo box with 1/2” foam rubber and leave 4’ of wire out of box an wrap box in plastic bag an Barry it about ft below ground behind tree! Bag help keep sand off box so when change it won’t be dirty. The battery is 12 volt 7 amphr an will last for 4 months on a feeder about 1-1-1/2 in winter of Upper Michigan in zero degree weather.
Good setup. I’ve seen some guys mount all that stuff onto a 1x6 and screw a buckle strap it two into the board and use the straps to attach the whole thing to the tree.
That’s a good idea! I might do that on my next one. I have 3 more cameras to upgrade.
Great video!
I was wondering if a DeWalt 12v power tool battery or a different name brand would work. Would be nice to have several of them so you could already have one charged on hand when you go swap it out. I’m sure there could be an adapter already out there half way made for this application or you could wire something up. Just not sure if it would be the correct output voltage or the needed amperage. It would be neat to know if it could work and for how long.
I bet that dewalt 12v would work if you had the right battery adapter., I've seen guys run fish finders on drill batteries so they can take sever and switch them out without killing the boat battery.
They would work just figure out the Pos an Neg sides! But the 12volt 7ahr batteries are only 20.00 an last 3 months until weather gets below freezing. I put battery in plastic ammo box insulated with 1/2” foam rubber an wrap in plastic bag an Burnie it about 6” below ground so not in snow an cold!
Do you have to have a solar panel
No, I have one camera running with a 12v battery and no solar. The battery alone lasted over a year!
Still going strong?
12v battery is the best option to keep them running!
I thought a 12 volt battery would burn up a cell camera?
This one has been running non stop for 4 months now. Battery level has never been below full. It's working great for me.
The most are 12 volt! Last Months 4-6 in summer months.
