What's your go to 85mm? ***Correction, of course the Samyang 85 is weather sealed.. the Viltrox is not. 😜
I traded my gm for the sigma. The weight/size and sharpness is wonderful
Lol! What do you think, is it worth the upgrade from the Samyang to the Sigma? Or they are fairly similar?
@@Carlos_Vasquez Love my samyang. Is the Sigma a better lens? Yes. Is it worth the price difference? Only you can answer that.
Great overview as always. Nice job!
Your Videos are loaded with great contents and a comprehensive treatment of the matter !! Great Job!! God Bless You!!!
Great detailed review thanks
Nice overview of what will surely be a great selling lens
Nice job...Always Nice to have You're point of views. 📷👈🏼
I already bought it..and it’s amazing...
Beautiful analysis..
However, would like to know , How does Sigma 85 art performs for portraits against sunlight..?
Fantastic review... Is it compatible with sony a6400?
are you using the a7siii yet? basically all the lenses I've tried have improved drastically in low light. My worse lens was the samyang 24mm f2.8, which was terrible in low light with the A7iii, but near native with the siii. Sony changing things up.
Please answer this question lol did sigma fix the firmware for autofocus and do you still use the lens and recommend it?? Going to buy it tomorrow.
Very good review! I would like to make a (probably unfair) comparison with the amazing Viltrox 1.8 II !
Great review as always but at 1:48 you probably made a typo in the cm dimensions, if it's 3 3/4 inch it's not 7.6 cm :) don't know if you want to change that?
Any thoughts on this lens 2 years later with updated firmware etc ?
once again (i think second time i said this to you). wide open. the aperture blades disappear. so the blades only affect bokeh if stopped down a bit
THANKS I GOT ONE ALREADY but looking at some reviews that said its hideous and highest distortion ever in a lens i got little taken aback. Does inbody correction correct RAW as well?
Which camera did you test the lens on?
Does Sigma make this lens for the Nikon Z7 mk2
Is the firmware better now?
Fantastic lens and excellent in detail review. However, for me on a7riii, my Sony 85mm f/1.8 is much cheaper and performs too, may not be as good as sigma but very close.
Distrotion can be seen in video?
How do you think of Sigma ART 85 1.4 and the 135 1.8? I have the 135 ART and wonder if I need the 85 1.4 or not.
Still have to review the 135. It would be one or the other for me personally.
@@StefanMalloch Looking forward to it.
This lens is so sharp its disgusting!!! I love this lens so much and hate the touch up so much on portraits. Its so amazing!!!
nice bro
My 85mm is the "budget 1.4" aka the Samyang. Spotty af performance but at 500 quid for an 1.4 and i don't shoot moving targets... I ain't complaining ;)
3:27 “although not weather sealed” but the Amazon listing says “Auto Focus Weather Sealed Lens for Sony E-Mount” there? Is it weather sealed? EDIT: I see your pinned comment, sorry I didn’t look there first
There is a gasket around the mount.
There is not only a gasket at the mount but the lens has a "dust- and splash-proof structure" including several sealings along the barrel.
So if you already the Sony GM, you’ll trade for this ?
I want that lens so bad. Maybe one day. Awesome video also.
Hey stephan! I have a sony 85mm f1.8. I use this for video. For potrait photos I am looking for a best lens. Any advice which should I pick up next.
The short and clear take away message should have been (in my strong opinion), that the actual (mark I) Sony GM f1.4 85mm is less good in any way than the DG DN counterpart (except distortion - but even with indispensable lenscorrection turned on the sharpness is still superior). My GM version looked (too) soft wide open as opposed to clear, contrasty and sharp with this Sigma at f1.4.
And since the GM is one of their earliest (oldest) GM; even AF speed is behind.
Knowing Sony can do the GM's 135, 50, 35, (and 24), a new 85 would be for sure a four linear motors to AF lens, but far more expensive and not nessessarelly better rendering (except if a f1.2).
Help!! This or canon RF 85mm 1.2??
This is a Sony emount lens.
Hmm maybe kinda king
This lens has lost the color feeling brought by the original natural lens, and the compressed space feeling full of digital makes the picture feel rigid and lifeless. I am more attracted by the natural color and light of the old lens. Don't you think so?
I don’t think so
agreed. Sigma is very sharp but there appears to be a more clinical feel to it
The sharpness + size and weight of this give it the advantage for me. I can edit colors in post if need be.
Fantastic review... Is it compatible with sony a6400?
