Currently shooting with Sigma 56mm f/1.4 on a6600 but planning to get a full frame soon and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 is probably going to be the first lens I'll get. In fact, I'll probably get it before the body, hehe.
I got the meike 85mm f1.8 2 weeks ago and I’m loving it! Especially for the price lol. 85mm has become my favorite portrait lens for sure! Mainly been using it for photography but definitely gonna try it out for videos soon🤙🏼🤙🏼
Love your work Curtis! You’ve made my decision easier on getting the Sony zv e10! Wondering about the lens though. Between the Sony 85mm 1.8 and sigma 85 1.4 mm. Is there much of a difference? For blogger sort of photos
I have been really enjoying the 85mm focal length ever since I finally found one I could afford. The XF56mm f1.2(version 1.0) is a lens I just keep using. Billed as a portrait lens, I find it great for so many things. Stopped down its sharpness is so good. I use it for hiking photography all time as well as for cars and anything in between. Have a great day!!
Couldn't agree more! I think it's somtimes great cause you don't have to get to up close and personal like you said!🤙 I think it's ideal for people who are starting with street photography cause it can be super nerve wracking when first starting out!
Bought a used 85mm 1.8 so I could test the range. Ended up keeping it. Way smaller, lighter and cheaper than the 1.4 version. Amd in all honesty, 95% of us dont need the extra 2/3 stop or the extra bokeh.
85mm is for sure the next lens on my list. Kyle Watts woot! My wife is the same way about Hats. She always has to get a Trucker hat from each city or state she visits. Great video dude! Happy to hear Peter encourage you, what a great guy! Your going to do great things!
Thanks for this video. Great passion. That's important for many things in life incl photography. I have probably more lenses than I need but the 85 is the one I use for most things unless I need greater reach such as with my 70-300. I have two 85 lenses, the 1.8 and 1.4. The 1.4 is just amazing in terms of the images I can create with it. I'm thinking of adding another as I know that the different brands have different characteristics. In summary the 85 is my standard focal length. Ciao.
Love your 85 f1.4 videos! Unfortunately it‘s out of my league price- and sizewise, so I‘m looking into the Sigma 90mm f2.8 DG DN. I‘m aware of the pro‘s and con‘s comparing to the Sigma 85 f1.4, but I wonder what your thoughts are. Do you shoot f1.4 all the time, or do you also stop down every once in a while? (All on the a6400)
Hi Curtis, i loved the outputs of your work using the 85mm. But does this mean actual focal length and not the lens? Your using ff right? So for apsc should bought a 56mm lens?
I actually have the blue version of the same cap. :D Apart from that I'm only just trying to decide between the Sigma 85mm 1.4 and 105mm 1.4, which is why I watch different videos.
Points credibly made, Curtis. Cool venue (nice trams, too😊). 85mm on full frame works well for me, as does 56mm on crop. Field of view should be a key consideration for this and any other lens, IMO. Subject matter, along with individual’s “way of seeing/field of view” should guide us. E.g., if you find yourself doing image crop very often, then perhaps a longer fl (narrower field of view) would be quite helpful. IMO, Sigma’s tend to be heavier. Have you tried Viltrox 85mm? You’ve got more than 30K subs, and deserve better accommodations than that austere dive, Curtis😂. Cheers!
Thanks for your comments Paul, made some great points😁👌 I've done a few videos on the viltrox before, they are on the channel 🤙 In terms of accommodation, it's nothing fancy, cheap, easy and didn't cost an arm and a leg to stay there. Practicality over luxuries in my opinion
Hi Curtis, thanks for a good video from Gothenburg! I’ve got a plan to buy this lens for my A74 in the near future, but I wonder where did you buy this fancy Sweden hat i the city?
my favourite lens is the Smayang 85mm F1.4 mk1 version ... love the compression & rendering of this lens for both stills & especially videography .. lovely trip round Gothenburg , home of the great film maker /youtuber Peter Lindgren
I do love the 85mm I just don’t use it enough. That my aim when out next to just use that. What are your thought on 85mm being a bit of a cheat code on street due to the compression making most photos look epic.
I am guilty of using the 85mm a bit to much, it's just addicting haha Imo I don't think it's a cheat code, I think it's important to not just shoot with it cause of the compression and look. I think it's just another way of capturing photography, composition and story shouldn't be forgotten about just because a lens can make pretty much anything look cinematic.
I bought sigma 85mm f1.4 art lens . I’m very new to photography. I’m using Sony a6700 camera . I’m unable to use the zoom feature . Can anyone please tell me does this lens have zoom feature ?! If yes how to enable it ?
Hello, great to hear your starting out in photography! Great setup you've got there. I'm unsure what zoom feature you are referring to, so gonna presume it's the lens itself. The 85mm is a prime lens. Which means it only has one focal length, you can't zoom with this lens. Hope that helps ✌️
So 85 would be great recommendation for full frame body - what about APS-C? 50 then? Im looking to finally escape the kit lens purgatory and I've kept an eye on some budget 35/50/85's from Yongnuo. The most budget one is the 50mm f1.8.
Looking forward to the POV dude, surprised you didn't go for an IKEA hat whilst in Sweden 😂 the 85mm is one lens I've not had chance to shoot with but really want to. Out of the budget unfortunately but for automotive photography that I primarily shoot it would be epic.
Ikea sell hats! 😮 How did I miss that! 😂 See if you have any mates that have one or borrow it for the day! It's definitely worth while, mine was an hefty expense but definitely paid itself off 🤙
What are your Thoughts on the 85mm Focal Length? 🤔
BIG fan of the 85mm!!
Love it!
I just bought it, love it. Question is.. Do I need to keep my 50mm? As I also got the Zeiss 16-70 f4, there is limited space in the bag
The best focal length if you have the space. In my way of thinking 85mm is outdoor shooting but hard to fit in most studios.
Shot a full wedding with 85 1.4
I love my Sigma 85 DG DN too... I just got the 24-70 GM II for everything run & gun

I only use my Sony 85mm 1.8. On my A7iii and I love that lens. Once you learn how to use it with minimal space you have an absolute gem of a lens.
Bought sony 85mm 1.8 last friday and i loving it !! using for street shooting is awesome serious !!!

The 85mm allows me (compared to smaller focal lengths) to stay a bit further away from the scene I am photographing. Ideal for street photography.
Couldn't agree more! I think it's somtimes great cause you don't have to get to up close and personal like you said!🤙 I think it's ideal for people who are starting with street photography cause it can be super nerve wracking when first starting out!
Damn dude! Those photos came out so good! Gonna have to raise the bar on my end
Thanks dude! 🤙
Love the 85mm, awesome video bro!
Thanks bro! 🤙

Try out the Samyang/Rokinon 135mm F1.8 next. It's scary good for the price and lightweight.
85mm is for sure the next lens on my list. Kyle Watts woot! My wife is the same way about Hats. She always has to get a Trucker hat from each city or state she visits. Great video dude! Happy to hear Peter encourage you, what a great guy! Your going to do great things!

Can we get comparison video of sigma 56mm vs sigma 85 mm lens on sony 6400 , it will be very helpful , Thank you
Hi Curtis, i loved the outputs of your work using the 85mm. But does this mean actual focal length and not the lens? Your using ff right? So for apsc should bought a 56mm lens?
Is it still suitable for APS-C sensor? Because it becomes 127.5mm...
I actually have the blue version of the same cap. :D

I love the look of an 85. it always just looks right
my favourite lens is the Smayang 85mm F1.4 mk1 version ... love the compression & rendering of this lens for both stills & especially videography .. lovely trip round Gothenburg , home of the great film maker /youtuber Peter Lindgren
Very good lens! ⚡ I know had the chance to hang out with Peter for a few days 🤘
Cool... Peter is a great guy , ive been following him since he had literally a few thousand subs @@CurtisPadley
Sooo if i have APS-C camera so its ok for me? more then 100mm right?
Kyle Watts is amazing, its cool to see you to link up!

Nice vid like allways mate!
Thanks mate! 🤙
What is the APSC equivalent to 85mm full frame?
That would be a 56mm, hope that helps! 🤙
hi, could you show in lightroom how to get colors like in the picture BIG EASY Thanks !
It's all done with my preset pack! 🔥👌
Hello there. Great video. I’m going to Gothenburg myself this May and I would love to see that street at 1:32 min. Can you tell me the name? ✌️
Enjoy visiting Gothenburg! 🇸🇪 Unfortunately I didn't quite catch the name of the street

Absolutely mate! I've done a few povs with the 85mm paired Sony A6400, it is an extremely long focal length with the crop 😅 but I do recommend it 🤙
The sigma 56mm 1.4 is a sweet lens on apsc
I own the fullframe 50 1.8 for my a6400 and it is quite okay
Looking forward to the POV dude, surprised you didn't go for an IKEA hat whilst in Sweden 😂 the 85mm is one lens I've not had chance to shoot with but really want to. Out of the budget unfortunately but for automotive photography that I primarily shoot it would be epic.

@@CurtisPadley no idea 🤣 would have thought they may do 🤣🤣 I might look at renting one
What’s the backpack you’re using?
It's ones from Tarion, linked in description so you can find it easier 🤙
Are you coming to Stockholm? If so, message me and I can show you some great locations for photography.
