At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Thank you everyone! I am still blown away by the amount of positive comments and views this video has gained! Just to let you know, this talk was originally titled ‘The Consumption Concept’’ when I presented it in Tokyo 2009, I’m not sure why the video is titled ‘One meal at a time’. Hopefully this should clear up some of the confusion. Out of all the videos I have created, this one holds a special place in my heart and I am incredibly grateful for all the inspiring comments I have seen. With all the health information and nutritional confusion we are drowning in today, keep in mind one of the most powerful things we can do for our well-being is to share a meal with the people we care about. Love & hugs to you all! :)
Sherry Strong thanks for info
Do you have a video about one meal a day ?
Thanks for the info !!
Your words are beautifully stated; however these words are not original.
These philosophies are those of Indigenous peoples going back eons. You allude briefly to some of these cultures but in my humble opinion, do not give enough credit where credit is due. The ideas of an honorable harvest, and taking only the resources absolutely needed have always been Indigenous practices. It is time this ancient wisdom is celebrated as well as the cultures who still live this honorable way.
You are absolutely correct. Originally I was given 18 minutes for the talk and told the week before I had 12 so there was a LOT I didn't say and if I gave credit to all I've learned from I could easily have used a day to do so. In my book I give credit to the origin of my philosophies which is nature, the same inspiration indigenous people have had as you say for eons.
Sherry Strong mam i really love the way u explained I am experiencing one meal a day for last six months and I’m feeling myself really energetic than ever before
*"As soon as money gets into food, it becomes compromised. Because great food takes time."* - Sherry Strong
I eat only between 5pm-9pm (fast for 20 hours) and have been doing this for 6 months now. The result? I no longer crave sugar or wheat products - at all. I now have more energy and mental focus than ever before. In fact my ability to concentrate and process information is off the charts! The results have been truly amazing. So much so my skeptical partner, is now moving toward this regime. Just bear in mind, it will take around 3 months for your body to fully adjust and before you are comfortable with the occasional feelings of hunger, which lessen over time.
"it will take around 3 months..." Noooooo. That may have been your experience so yes, that is valid for you. But honestly, you shouldn't say that as a blanket statement to others who might be considering IF. It might scare them away because a lot of people will translate that as "I am going to be hungry for 3 months!". It isn't true for everyone. There was practically no adjustment period for me. I was a binge eater. I binged badly! But once I learned about IF I was so excited to do it and jumped right in. The first, maybe, two days were interesting, letting the waves of hunger pass instead of sating them. But soon I realized that that was a false hunger and ever since those first couple of days, I feel hunger differently than before. It is no longer a negative feeling and I usually don't even feel hungry at all! I am sorry it took you 3 months to adjust but actually a lot of people adjust in mere days!
Si mon what do you eat each meal?
I wanted to ask the same. I have just completed a week of intermittent fasting with an eight hour window for food. Now I am planning a two meal a day intermittent fasting for the next week and eventually to OMAD.
I started keto last year. Craving for sugar and wheat went away after about 2 or 3 weeks.
I'm on my third week of 24 hour IF. Hunger is there but much more acceptable. One day at a time.
I’m do 23/1 and i love it. I sleep better, more alert and full of energy
Gosh, that would make life easy, wouldn’t it?! Remove so much complication. And to have energy and think clearly? Ah, fabulous.
She is so witty and a great orator, giving really important information that I never found anywhere else. You are truly impressive lady
Thank you Kartik!
I can't believe this video has too less views... People needs to share this information..... Her talk is brilliant
I love what she is saying. I've cut out sugars and all bad carbs (bread, pasta, cereals etc) and mixed with intermittent fasting. I've never felt better. I don't eat nor need to eat as often and it costs less.
The message about eating with people who you love and that love you whole heartedly is very powerful. Try not to eat when you are depressed or lonely, go for a walk in nature instead.
Amazing video! May I add that I have noticed commercial bread sit in my pantry for months on end without growing mold. Meanwhile I buy bread from the bakery which will grow mold within 3-5 days. My conclusion; mold seems to way smarter than us humans regarding what they will or will not eat!!! Eye opener.
Yeah...even the mold (bacteria) knows..😂😂
Excellent talk!! I am a fitness professional here in canada and it appals me how mal nourished individuals really are. It just is really a shame to see how people dump toxic waste into their bodies. I'm working to change that. Congrats on spreading the word of good health and nutrition sherry! God bless!
Thanks Trevor!

Since I went plant based and quit smoking this year, I have my vitality back. I wake up, AWAKE! I don't even want caffeine, don't use coffee and sugar like a drug which I have done all my life. I am having an issue with giving up bread, that's why I'm here. I want to reach the optimum diet.
Bread is just like sugar in our body and many versions are actually worse than refined sugar alone. Try to find ancient grain and sprouted grain breads that are made with grains that are minimally processed. They aren't as addictive and can help break the cycle of eating processed breads.
I agree! Plant based, cruelty free. No problems turning my back on sugar but BREAD, that's tough. Doable... but tough!
Here I am 7 years later. Wonderful speech.
I just started my intermittent fasting/24hr fasting journey with adding the keto diet and light home work outs. 2 weeks in I've lost 10lbs. I'm sure its mainly water weight but I have alot more energy and feel great.
BBB T you can do fasting once a week or two
I've lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks doing I.F.!
"Nutrients come in all forms..." This talk was amazing in total, but I especially love this powerful statement & the truth within it. Thank you Sherry!
Thank YOU Judy!
I've never had any of those good people around me & I've had eating disorders all my life to compensate. My mission is to give myself that love & compassion that I've never received from others so that I can break the cycle of destructive eating habits 🌺
For 3 days I only had soup and nothing else and felt absolutely fantastic. I only needed 4 hours sleep a night and felt really energised in the morning. Very strange but will give it another try this week.
So will i,, thank you
What do you do for a living?
Do you REALISE that lack of sleep will make you hungrier? Ghrelin ( hunger hormone) is higher with serious lack of sleep. Every normal person needs at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep! Lack of sleep ( sleep deprivation) will after a few weeks, make you crazy!
Getting too little sleep is a recipe for getting fatter just as much as having too many unhealthy snacks or getting take away everyday is ...
This aligns very much sith Ayurveda... Very sage, simple and sound! Thank you for passing on the wisdom!
Very confident speaker, watching the whole video was effortless, good information. I usually like to add my own perspective but I think this talk is right on the money.
Today the practice is to take more than needed and save it for a catastrophic event. For the day when you won't get enough. It's wrong headed. When we solve the things we're doing to cause the catastrophy, we won't need to hoard. We won't feel we're not getting enough, so we won't over eat. Hurting and killing animals to eat them, and each other, damaging our surroundings, and creating a high consumption society in all ways contributes to the desire to over anything, and everything. Sharing a lovely meal, is important, but go back even further to communication, and kindness.
Sherry is the bomb! She is spot on and I salute her efforts to share a clean diet with the world. I eat the same bread that Jesus ate, and I bake it myself
Wow! and this talk still applies today more than ever :) Thank you so much for sharing!
Wonderful and astounding speech madam about the food ever heard covering all the food industry's delusions. Thanks you so much whole heartedly for your teachings in food
What a magnificent speech and inspiring speaker. Thank you very much Sherry.
Super KIND words Vikas! Thank YOU!
Loved listening to this Sherry, while making dinner! Thank you for all that you do to educate so many.
My pleasure Kelita! Perhaps I can listen to your music while I make dinner!
This is brilliant. Until I came upon it, quite by accident...doing research for my membership website to help people with healthy eating, I had never heard of Sherry Strong. I have been recently fascinated by the Blue Zones.
Awesome and thank YOU for the kind words. I recently auditioned to be the host of a documentary series based on the Blue Zones after they saw this video. Fingers crossed!
She spoke very beautiful...Great content..great sense of humor. And YES I second most of what she said. ✨✨
A true eye-opener indeed. Thank you for sharing.
It is noteworthy that even after a span of 11 years, the most effective approach to address the errors in our dietary habits is still the same.
A great talk. I've read lots of the comments and Sherry's feedback and I think You Tube needs to change the title, too. Maybe "Eat real food"? But why do some people think this talk promotes eating one meal a day??
The title is one meal at a time, not one meal a day... we can all learn to eat Healthy one meal at a time.. very good talk Sherry.
@PerrySport totally agree, we are in disability pension and have no savings. So we have forgone any junk and focused on more veggies and fruit. However we often run out and then it’s whatevers in the cupboard...
This is a brilliant talk. And Sherry is a very intelligent, and beautiful woman. Everyone should watch this !!
SUPER kind of you to say, Thank YOU!
Amazing..Just discovered Jan 2020 7th Tue..Well presented, easy to comprehend understand Thankyou
The poor man`s diet is the best! Just whole foods. This is when I feel rich.
Anna Pomelo, what is the poor man’s diet.
?
Whole food are the most expensive though
@@lynettegreig4763 When I was poor, I'd cook half a carrot, half a zucchini, quarter of a capsicum and maybe some chicken. I'd cook the other half on the following day. A mini stir fry with no sauce. Prompted because of low budget but actually simple and elegant and satisfying because I valued & savoured the natural taste of each item. I should go back to that, actually!!
I enjoyed this video very much . You kept it simple, yet informative. Thank you ;D
Great talk! You really covered the important information.
One of the saddest persons that I have met are the people who will not cook a meal for themselves :(
I have known people who will cook for others but will not cook if they are alone,... If you just came home from working a 12 hour shift at a job you hate then that is the day that you need to cook yourself a great meal because you f***ing deserve it :)
The last minute or so of this talk it the most important. Thank you Sherry Strong. This is a beautiful talk.
Thank YOU Jay, I agree!
Excellent talk. I just wish you would have focused on the health benefits of One Meal A Day. I am on Day #15 and I feel amazing, I lost 19 pounds already, I keep looking to learn more, from all sides of the topic. Wish you would talked about it. But still a great video of awareness.
My talk was titled The Consumption Concept. TED renamed the talk long after I gave it. I never mentioned one meal a day so I'm not sure how they came up with that title.
One meal a day? So what time of day do you eat and approx how much?
a very impressive talk with great advice on diet.if people would only listen
OMAD works great for me, weight loss and brain clarity is amazing. ⭐
@@Purplemetall007 I eat between 6.30 and 7.30pm, once a day. I don't even feel hungry until then. Your body gets used to it. I chose to eat at this time to sit down and eat with my family.
You are literally GORGEOUS Sherry!💜
Aww, thank YOU Kali!
Great talk!
We all need to stop and think a second about what we are eating and why before we stuff it in 8 times a day and ride the insulin roller coaster.
I like the idea of eating in accordance to nature.
You get the premise and essence of the talk!!!
this was great! I loved how she presented, knew most of the info , but the last 2 minutes are important...Share with someone you love, jokes that are kind, etc...Beware the farmers market, my local farmers market is over priced & didn't even know where their food stuffs, honey etc. were sourced... not locals---just out to make a buck...buyer beware! Sherry, you rock!!! I want to go to Australia.
Thanks for the kind words and caution!
Brilliant!1 So informative and inspiring.. Bravo..
Thank YOU Helen!!!
Absolutely brilliant!
Thank you so much for this Ted talk.
Great talk, I have changed to one meal a day for the last week, feel ok so far, will be staying on it as far as I can see. All Organic and Vegan based. Organic is more expensive but theres no price on your health so Im happy to pay more if I know it's benefitting me.
Also wait 5 to 6 hrs between each meal...I eat 2 meals a day every other day and 1 meal the other day ...1st meal consists of vegies, fruits, and nuts only ....and the day I eat 2nd meal it's more heavier foods...also dont eat after 6m and take a look a Dr Sebi food list😊
This is amazing! She is so inspiring.
Hi mam ...wonderful speech ....m frm India...love u nd lots of respect
Enjoyed your talk very inspiring and entertaining.
I will take with me your successful transformation Blessings from Wolverhampton England.
Thank YOU Billy!
Great one. Thank you very much
Eating better foods and not overeating can be done, you’ll be glad you did. It is simple. I didn’t say easy. Easy rarely is satisfying.
One of the best videos I’ve ever watched.
Thsnk you so much! Great talk!
Absolutely superb information
A really lovely and loving video with excellent advice on when, how and with whom to eat food for best health and well-being. ( In a nut shell, run a mile away from processed food it will likely make you unwell AND unhappy. ).
Really interesting and so much knowledge. Sherrys humor reminds me of Ellen. Funny and nice at the same time type of humor.
Okay, that is one of the best compliments of my life! Wow and thank YOU!!!
A family in Bhutan spends $5.03/day. That is how much I pay for organic garlic $ 4.99 Cdn (83 grams) at a regular grocery store in Vancouver, Canada. Same prize for organic ginger. Drive a little further for $2.99.
Same in Toronto. Canada is so expensive. More and more people are driving across the border for cheaper gas and goods
it cost 0.15$ in India for 83 gram garlic .
Wonderful, I enjoyed your talk. Thanks
Sherry Strong is the greatest food expert and has amazing recipe videos and tips for reducing our addiction to sugar!
You are extremely KIND!!!
This is the kind of person with a such beautiful and smooth voice that I can heard all day long.
Thank you for the kind words!!!
I only read a few comments here, but it seems that a lot are about IF & Keto...which I am also implementing and having good results....the part of this talk that I took away is the connection that is missing to others and how important "who you eat with" is...not only "what" and "when" etc....SO, for me personally, that is the absolute most difficult part because I live alone and do not have many occasions to eat "with" others. AND my weight issue began with my food/emotional neglect issues in my formative years, but more along the lines of the emotional disconnection with those closest to me and THAT is the basis for my struggle...we "rarely" ate processed foods...the worst being margarine, but for many years my Mom made butter from our own cow...and she always had a large garden although I remember her spraying the raspberries with pesticide...likely DDT or similar!! Lots of homemade stews, soups and cooked-from-scratch meals, but she also loved to bake which in my view is absolutely processed even though it is from scratch...fast food wasn't as available and so the only experience I had with that as a young child is the rare DQ treat and A&W occasionally, but as I had more contact with my U.S. cousins, I had more exposure to those types of foods.
My experience within my family eating, was exactly what she speaks against...anyway it is a very complex issue and am very thankful for talks like this that address the issue in a way that makes sense and hopefully helps someone to change their lifestyle to a healthier version....
You are SO right that is a VERY complex issue that can never be fully explored in a 12-minute talk. I am challenged addressing it my 8 week programs let alone 12 minutes ;-)
Sherry Strong ! Your Ted talk was powerful.
Superb tutorial thankyou👍🏻💕
Bless your Beautiful Heart
Thank you💞
I am doing one meal a day from about 2 months now, but this is the first time I am seeing this ted talk. I have lost 26 pounds in 2 months!!! And continuing with the same, I do have some chicken soup at night. Lots of green tea with lemon and honey. And lot of dry fruits ( Almonds, cashews and raisins ) and 2 medium size bananas. Try it!
What's ur one meal? Mean food
Great information
I loooove her hair! Wow!
Great talk by all means, thanks for caring.
Love this! I shared this video with my students!
Awesome speech,thank you :)
Thank you for telling us about PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE in the food industry.... When P.O. (planned obsolescence) is perpetrated in mechanical devices - They either leave out important parts so you need to buy more OR they will ensure that the product FAILS without you knowing it was intentional. That's what they are doing with our food!
Beautiful thought.
HI I LIKE YOUR VALUES ..... GREAT SPEECH
In india we import green apples from abroad . I have one lying in my fridge as fresh as I bought it 2 months back ..I plan to keep it as long as it stays to show people what we should not import !
take pictures each month and see what happens?
Fantastic Talk!
Beautiful and smart!
Thank you for sharing this great video
This is more important now more than ever
I woke up this morning at 3am before the alarm singing the exact same song! Haha
Great talk thank you !
Thank you for sharing 😋
I know my motivation in my success was the fact that I found what I liked to do and the fact that I knew that I was right and everyone tried everything in there power to make me seem as if I was an enemy and that I could not do it so I was willing to work twice as hard and the faith I had in God it pushed me when I wanted to quit he lifted me up I also beloved that I could gain the power to help people and that is to me more awesome then money to be remembered as the man that gave all he had to help others then to be remembered as the man who all he had was money I think I'm in love with you you are so beautiful I hope we meet in this life or the next
Amazing talk 👏 🙌 👌 ❤
Great talk!
Just for your great entrance I give you an 💯👍❤️
I actually like this perspective.
Excellent talk - although Tokyo is full of non-overweight people - better to have this speech in London and New York.
People are watching from everywhere, and also Japan is seeing a spike in obesity due to the importing of Western foods and fast food.
@@njhawksworth1588 I wonder what happened over there during the pandemic when a lot of people were working from home and not exercising. I went to Japan in 2010 and 99 percent of the people there looked non-obese but I don't know what the situation is in 2023.
Hi... Madam iam from India... Thanks for your valuable information.. Love❤😘 u madam
Thank YOU Vimala!
Great sense of humour 😂
Brilliant message👍🏼
Very true ,
And I watched many tedx talk about health and the thing is I already read that in AYURVEDA and in our culture.
The title of this video should change since there is not even a word of OMAD (one meal a day).
Other than that, great talk!
Esma Guresci you miss read it. This is not about OMAD. It’s OMAT.
Thanks and I agree, the title was decided by TED when they posted it 4 years after I gave the talk.
One of the most important thing in the world..food! natural simple food! Anyone interested in setting up a farm ? old style?
That was beautiful 💪🏽😍
AWESOME !!!
I have 2 weeks with 1 meal a day. And I already loose 16 pounds.
I have a friend who smokes, it distresses me a lot as I love her and her husband died of this ( as did my father and brother ) but when when is with me she doesn't smoke, she says that we talk of a million things, we go to flea markets we walk the dogs and restore furniture and she doesn't think to smoke. It is the same as with food, you cannot replace an addiction with Nothing, you have to be so consumed with Something else that foods just doesn't do it anymore.
What is prevagen improves memory chewables mixed berry flavor
Thank you everyone!
Madam excellent , thank you
