Winter Fishing Tips When The Fishing Is TOUGH!

  • Not every day has perfect weather, so what do you do? Its easy on the day when fish want to jump in the boat, but some days you get on the water and its just a grind. Tim has some key tips about mindset as he shows you how he builds a limit of solid fish on a day when they're not feeding.
    Today was all about the A-Rig. Tim could tell in the first few minutes that his bites weren't going to come easy. He was going to have to focus and slow down to catch quality fish. He could have picked up a spinning rod but he knew that if he stuck with the mini flex rig and a slow retrieve along bottom that key bites would come eventually. Mental toughness is a major part of Winter bass fishing, especially on the tough days.
    Below you'll find links to the exact baits and equipment Tim was using. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

    I can’t believe how milky green that water is. Also bass are pre spawn in Texas now because we’ve had 2 weeks of highs in the 60s 70s and 80s.

    Yalls rig seems to work better than any iv ever seen. Yall should think about selling them already rigged up with everything already on them. I really think they would sell extremely good if you did bc no else does and would worry about the hooks catching on stuff but you'd just have to put them in a little box.

    • @andybales7318
      @andybales7318 Рік тому +1

      The one or ones with the hook are generally a slightly larger size bait than the hook less baits...the bass key in on the larger baits with the hooks most of the time

    Hey, Tim. This may be a bit niche but can you guys do a video for lakes that get down to the low-mid 30s but don't freeze over? ...or maybe the solution is simpler than that? At those temps, should I just treat my boat like a mobile ice fishing hole, and fish something that doesn't require movement to be effective, like a drop shot or live bait?
    I took advantage of a mid-50s day, yesterday but water temps were 35 and have been (or lower) for a few weeks. Water was probably 3 - 5 feet of vis, which is normal to slightly stained for this lake, though it can get quite clear (10 feet of vis) at times. Got 0 bites (or, at the very least, 0 bites that I detected.) I was able to mark lots of fish. I saw some suspended onesies/twosies corralling bait balls but the schools were in deep water at the bottom of drop offs with their bellies in the mud. Couldn't find any deep hard bottom. The vast majority of this lake only has hard structure in shallower water or on the up stream side of ledges/humps. Since the lake is drawn down, any off shore structure I know of is now too shallow for winter hunkering. Fished painfully slow tube, ned, 2.8 keitech, yamamoto shad worm on a drop shot, 2-tap lipless, and a football jig.
    It's possible that everything I saw was walleye/saugeye and just never located bass. My local lake is a great 'eye fishery.

    • @krisramos7453
      @krisramos7453 Рік тому

      I feel that. The lakes around me used to freeze over in the winter but these days they go back and fourth between 1-2" of unsafe ice or open water hard to put anything together in those conditions. Water temp holds 32-34 probably

  • @secretbassrigs

    Downsized baits work so much better. It's just a more natural presentation. I also prefer rigs without the plastic head. they last longer and are repairable.

    • @brianrobinson9979

      There are plenty other 150 size MGL's and their all great. Unless you specifically want the Metanium, but there's the Bantam, Chronarch, and Curado MGL's available in the 150 size. The Curado and the Chronarch are only 0.2oz heavier than the Metanium. I have the Curado and it's phenomenal

      🥶 I would say yes just run the rig slow. They would burn a Tactical DD75 in that water temp too but the A-Rig is proving more and more that it's a year round bait and it catches monsters!

    It would be nice if you would say the dept your fishing. You and Matt both say they are on the break off river channel but never say the depth. The depth they are biting is more important than what lures you are using. Every hole your fishing tell us the depth your fishing will help us out the most. Great show thanks.

    • @brianrobinson9979
      @brianrobinson9979 Рік тому

      But it's not about the depth it's about where they're positioned. He could be on a long tapering point that goes out to 15ft and then breaks and drops to 40+ feet and then moves to another point that only goes down to 10ft and then drops of. They're gonna be on the drop just off the shallower water. Also every body of water is going to be different. He could give you depth, temperature, water clarity, barometric pressure, everything and it could match your body of water and you might not even get bit because of any number of factors for your specific lake. Both Matt and Tim give guidelines for you to checkout at the body of water that you're fishing to try to find a pattern. Are they on drop-offs, rock, grass, wood? When you find them then you choose techniques and bait actions and colors for said locations and water Temps and clarity etc.

      @@brianrobinson9979 i want to know why he doesn't lay out each hole he is fishing so other people can understand what he is doing. As far as all that text book shit you laid out that every one who seriously bass fish knows, has nothing to do with the question i ask. If you do how to videos on bass fishing, and you catch a bass off shore on a arig then you should say how deep the water is and how deep the bite came if your trying to give the most knowledge.
