God you could write a book about the weapons in this game, specifically the weapons that simply shouldn't exist when the game takes place. Such as the M16A2 with the M203 and pre-ACOG 4x scope in the Bay of Pigs invasion... 30 round magazines, underslung grenade launcher, and a detachable scope? prior to Vietnam? yeah... alright.(I know it's modeled after the M16A1, but in-game it shoots 3 round bursts, and with the grenade launcher that effectively makes it an M16A2+M203) For the record: Bay of Pigs invasion - 1961, adoption of the M16A2 - 1983; in other words this gun is over 20 years out of date for the story. That would be the equivalent of using an M1 Garand in WW1, or a Lee Enfield in the civil war. Another example is the AKS-74U, not only does it have an incorrect in-game model for the actual Krinkov, but similar to the M16A2, this is a variant of that particular weapon that wouldn't exist until 1977(adopted in 1979), yet apparently the Viet Cong had access to it as early as 1968. Nevermind the fact that the platform it's based off, the AK-74, itself wouldn't exist until the very LAST year of the Vietnam war(1974) This game is an absolute nightmare for gun-autists, as was it's predecessor, World At War, which featured King Tigers during the battle of Stalingrad and STG-44s with holographic sights. But god DAMN was it fun anyway.
@@trainknutI actually never knew about those particular historical inaccuracies. Thank you sir for teaching me something new. As someone who likes guns it is very interesting to find information like this in comment sections.
FYI Something that most people haven't figured out about this game. The Vorkuta escape was staged by Dragovich and Reznov was in on it! It was all a plan to let Mason re-enter the United States and complete his task of killing JFK without raising any suspicion. If the Russians had just let Mason free, the CIA would probably be very cautious with Mason, they would not let him back in service and would probably be watching every single move he made. They would quickly figure out he was a sleeper agent but the ''escape'' aspect, let him fly under the radar. That also explains the terminal emails hinting that Reznov is alive. Reznov probably made a deal with dragovich, he helped stage the escape of Mason and Dragovich let Reznov free in return (although Reznov still had his own plans). Reznov intercepted Mason' brainwash, he knew how to use the numbers (This is possible because Reznov was brainwashed himself!!! An intel file found at the Vorkuta mission before they hop on the bikes clearly says it)
That's really cool! I was more focused on the connection to real world history for the video, so I didn't even research on the nuances such as that. It sounds so interesting, I might have to look into it and make another video.
Dude thank you! I always wondered how Reznov A: Knew about the numbers program and that Dragovich was going to use Mason and B: How he had the knowledge on how to brainwash Mason himself.
That's actually a really compelling theory, and it would explain why Reznov has such unfettered access to completely hijack Mason's brainwashing process... You'd think with the amount of time that takes, somebody would have noticed and stopped him; Yet not only does no one ever do this, but it seems like Reznov actually did _more_ brainwashing than the others. Perhaps the reason he knew how to use the numbers was even darker than him being brainwashed himself? maybe he knew how the numbers worked because he was in charge of Mason's brainwashing process _from the very beginning?_ I think far too many people put inherent trust in Reznov's motivations and actions within the game, I have no doubt his ultimate plan was revenge against Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner, but do we have anything besides his word to prove he wasn't loyal to the Soviets the whole time? not really. If you play World at War and watch his character closely, you will see a man who was _always_ motivated by bloodlust and revenge. Admittedly his rage against the Nazis was justified, but even with the context the game gives you, you're still meant to see him as a representation of the corruption of the Soviet people... He's not supposed to be a good guy, in fact he's very explicitly (in my opinion) written as a _bad_ guy fighting for the _right cause_ ... at least for this moment in history. But... History moves on, times change, those who once fought for good don't always remain on the side of good, hell, many don't even realize they were fighting for something noble, many soldiers such as Reznov were not actually fighting for a just cause, they were simply, fighting, and they _happened_ to have a good cause around them... But take away that cause and these men will still find a fight, because at the end of the day they didn't join the army to fight for their country, they joined the army to kill other men. Chernov is meant to be the contrast to this, he's the exact opposite, he _hates_ killing, but he does it anyway, for his country... and at every possible turn Reznov mocks and belittles him for not reveling in the death and suffering of his enemies. Reznov was always written as a bloodthirsty killer, it's just that without Chernov(or Dimitri) around to contrast him with... he kinda just steals the show. Because he IS an unrelenting badass, you have to give him that.
The thing is Mason said to Dragovich before he killed him “You made me try to kill my own president” and Dragovich responds “Tried?” hinting that Mason actually killed JFK, pictures at the end show he was there, maybe as an accomplice to Oswald
Given the fact Oswald didn't do it and was 100% set up since the US didn't like him already, I think Mason is supposed to be the agent that actually did it
When mason breaks out of the room at the end of the campaign there’s a voice line of him saying “Oswald compromised” further reinforcing that he was a second shooter

I have a theory about paperclip. After we (US) brought back the nazis who were not only scientists but officers too, the US asked them how to build a strong police force exactly like how they had and they started teaching our police force the same way the nazis were taught and the tactics stayed the same ever since to this day.
