This is a very interesting theory. Shin's desire for belonging also mirror's Rey's journey, it's a shared experience that Rey could use to help shin find redemption. Can't wait to see what unfolds

Was Darth Plagueis canonically dead during TPM?

It is unclear with current canon materials at which point Plagueis is killed by Sidious. It is only confirmed to have happened in 32 BBY - the same year as TPM. But we do not know if this is before or during TPM.
