He's written four excellent books that go into great detail about his comprehensive, well respected studies.

Everything that encourages mankind to value life, respect and PRACTICE behaviors that are good and beneficial to all of us as a global society is critical to maintaining a healthy world. Collectively just focusing on thinking of ways to do good will help us all be more civil, kind, and even just polite to one another. In various moments I have to ask myself "which wolf am I feeding in this situation?"

Brain scans are nice pictures. What they really mean in terms of behavior is still left to be detrmined. The pictures imply all the action is in the physical brain and leaves out the non-physical mind which is the connection to the spiritual or non-physical world. If we could take nice full-colored pictures of the non-physical mind using very expensive machinery it my get taken more seriously. --- Terry Gorski

When he says God changes your brain, which God is he referring to and why refer to a God anyway? If you meditate, it's the meditation that changes you, not God

To quote Michael Shermer: "I fail to see the difference (outside a minor linguistic distinction) between a delusion and a decrease in OAA activity. Delusion is simply a description of what happens when the OAA shuts down and the brain loses the ability to distinguish self from non-self. It's still all in the brain." Andrew uses good scientific methods but he jumps to a conclusion failing scientific rigor.

You can say that God changes your brain, but you can't ignore the reality that it's the way that different people think that shapes our brains. A recent study showed that liberals and conservatives have differently shaped brains! What we don't know is whether brain structure influenced ideology, or if ideology shaped the brain. Also, it's more subjective/fanatical than scientific to suggest that some brain structure is better than another depending on your personal beliefs!

God is everything! It's foolish to believe God doesn't exist. We all are young at one point, then middle aged, and then evetually we get old and pass on. No one is excluded. Believe in God and yourself. You are not guilty of anything. Don't let the enemy make you feel like looking for truth else where because you some how believe you've messed up. He understands and forgives you. Blessings!

But humans are born into a sinful nature which is why we need God to purify us

I'm an ex-Christian fundamentalist of 12 years, left that low-level approach to spirituality after reading over 150 books, having many spiritual experiences, and living in Thailand for 14 years. The Christian concept of "God" is a primitive literalization of a metaphorical term for Ultimate Reality - which is Inner, not outer. There are countless other concepts of Ultimate Reality, the Biblical god is merely one of millions throughout history.

I felt very interested in reading this book until I looked at the first pages in Amazon 'look inside'. In the first 3 words Andrew Newberg alienates nearly every country in the world. They are, "God. In America..." Andrew, I am not from nor in America. Now I am sure that the book relates equally well to all humans across the world and that your research in and using Americans generalises well to all members of the human race. It would have been so much better if you had addressed the world in your book's first line rather than just a subset of it. I feel thoroughly turned off and that 'turned-off' feeling motivates me not to buy.

The title, "How God Changes Your Brain" is a bit misleading. What he really means is "How SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES change your brain". Don't get hung up on some old-fashioned concept of "God". He's talking about direct spiritual experiences of any kind.

So many people here are quick to slander God and side with meditation. The ultimate question for anyone following an abstract concept of the like-and claiming to have some higher awareness-is how sound is your worldview/ideology/religion philosophically? That being step one.

yes, of course, at the very least, the brain is hard wired for religious/god experiences.......in fact.........it is of the same ELEMENTAL MATTER of which god, itself, is composed............it is ensconced within the greater fibres of that, god, of which it, and everything else is a part of..........Michael Jude, author THIRTEENTH APOSTLE: THE COMING TRANSUBSTANTIATION..............Good Day !

I'd like to see Newberg talk to the Buddhist nun Robina Courtin and ask her if meditation is God. My gripe is that God, as a supernatural Deity is a serious misnomer. If we were to say meditation makes it possible to reach a higher level of awareness, of consciousness, of well being, that makes far more sense to me than the supernatural.

That is the conceptual framework you had for a god . The comment ' The Christian concept of god ' is a ridiculous generalization .

So don't lose your sceptical sense with books like these. Or with religion that focuses on faith and teaches people to accept dogmas. If you beleive that God created the universe, you are forced to believe in someone who created God. But we have so far not been able to observe much before the big bang, so why take the extra step.

God is the universe, the big bang.....lot´s of these studies are from mediums through Psychography have wriiten books in the late 1800´s & early 1900´s describing the simple cell, brain structure till someone like doctor Andrew comes along to prove it. Read Allan Kardec books, it is the bases of theese studies....
