why would you want fast thermal transfer on your iphone? or are you expecting to have a diamond unbreakable screen? I don't think any of these diamonds were see through unfortunately, you got a long ways to go on that, unless you're willing to accept a tiny layer of diamond (thin enough so it becomes opaque) ontop of a layer of glass, idk how that would help anyone
diamond can shatter very easily as it is extremely brittle, so it would not make for a good screen. It would be scratch proof but if you dropped your phone the screen would shatter everywhere.
I have a potentially stupid question. If I compress a loaf of bread until it's the size of a golf ball, it'll still weigh the same. Why don't diamonds weigh the same as their non-compressed ingredients? A daft example probably with inaccurate measurements., if it takes 10k of coal to make one diamond for a wedding ring, why doesn't that ring still weigh 10k?
The whole concept of a diamond engagement ring didn't occur until an advertising campaign by DeBeers. Advertising has naturalized so much consumption in our world, it's quite sad.
It sounds good in concept but as far as I know no one has figured out how to print circuits on a diamond chip. The inconsistency of the diamond grains would also make it impossible to construct a chip out of them.
um to all people who are thinking that Jewelry grade diamonds can be synthetically produced I am sorry to say NO it can't... the conclusion of this video is that diamonds are so awesome
Imagine wearing lab diamonds. Cope harder wearing a chem students science project when naturals are a wonder of the natural world older than all organic matter
If diamond is harder than steel, why in the other video did a guy smash a diamond to bits with a hammer? Steel would not smash to pieces if you hit it with a hammer
There is a diffrence between synthetic and real diamonds.

Because they're so plentiful in number they should be essentially "worthless" in price. The only reason diamonds aren't folds cheaper is because the largest companies that buy diamonds at the source hold back a big amount from the market. There are also places known to have diamonds, but are not being harvested because of the precarious nature of the place in which they are found, and the unique skill and equipment that their retrieval would require. ~
I would like to show these kinds of videos to my students, but without the music. I find it rather sensationalizing and annoying. Thanks for other good vids though.
1:06 Those things at the right of his head are 4 freaking huge nuts and what they rest on is almost about 1 foot thick piece of most likely hardened steel.. that is whats needed to hold for the pressure and that says something about the fuckin insane pressures needed to create synthetic diamonds.
You really had to do that did you...assume i was stupid because i said something that is still true? "Do you know nothing about supply and demand", you seriously don't think i know about something that is so undeniably tied to human nature, logic and intelligence? Ofcourse something rare and useful will be more expensive than a...potato. You would probably not be able to reproduce it cheaply in a sweatshop in China, or even cheap at all, so it will still be expensive, not just AS expensive.
goodbye to you my friend i was expecting a better reply to my previous comment. but clearly your argument shows you don't understand at all. I'm wasting my time here. maybe next time try researching first google is free.
imagine a vest you can wear with diamonds instead of special steel that can stop all kinds of bullets with no scratch. on the other hand it can be use as a bullet too since it's the hardest thing known to man lol.
it doesn't matter because the force of the bullet will still kill you even if it doesn't scratch the diamond armour, you want something that can dissipate its kinetic energy like Kevlar.
Could they possibly produce diamond with non recyclable materials ? ,in this video they mentioned that synthetic diamond can be produced with any material
Thinnestmeteor carbon atoms packed very tightly together, creating a very strong bong with each other, diamond atoms repeat their pattern, is diamond a dense material ?
Middle of the night and I’m watching this guy make a diamond out of burnt toast 🤦🏾♀️

I'm bummed out by the fact that in the suggestions column there aren't any other videos about diamonds. What's up with that, UA-cam?

could the diamond "glass" at 2:26 be used for future iPhone displays?

4 years later, i read somewhere they are planning to use diamond screens on smartphones, so i think your idea was good.
Hey, can you please add captions to your videos? I'm hard of hearing, and it would be super helpful.
sooo i just paused this video...burned some bread... played the video... and now i have some burned bread... thanks
a diamond tool has 1562 uses and there is usually 3 diamonds per chunk in a map
Nine years and I’m the only one who got that
I am convinced and have have had my suspicions since high school that diamonds have a place in technology and memory storage.. computers..

i wonder if they make body armor for soldiers from those threads

I like the one dislike...I bet it's a jeweler who just found out all his diamonds are worthless lol
It's not worthless if it's the hardest material known to man :3

+Goku Nimbus It would most likely cost a lot since this is still in sort of early stages

that was actually interesting :)
I agree 100%
diamond in electrical equipment... now thats gonna be expensive!
If diamond is harder than steel, why in the other video did a guy smash a diamond to bits with a hammer? Steel would not smash to pieces if you hit it with a hammer
My guess would be because hard and brittle are two different material properties. Steel is ductile and more resilient to impact.
There is a diffrence between synthetic and real diamonds.

its the middle of the night and im watching guy turning toast bread into a diamond, what is wrong with me....
Diamond isn't metal, but still the hardest.
This is great, learning new stuff everyday.
thanks! this was really informative :D

I already knew diamonds were used for cutting on an industrial scale.... I learned nothing..
Techniqually diamonds are made up of all the old lifeforms that got extinct and anything that died :3!

You know what else is Hard?
My Determination.
Well, I'm not buying diamonds any more
0:11 did they tell him to make it look like the diamond is in his nose??!! The director did him wrong here.
Man, instead of silicon chips for computers, we could have synthetic diamond chips.
A diamond would not stop a bullet. You can shatter a diamond by hitting it with a hammer. You don't seem to know what you are talking about.
Worthless = Not of practical use
If you needed a knife to survive, would you rather have one with a steel blade or one made of pure gold?
Even ur toilet was probably *gets all excited at the prospect of toilet having diamond in it - cut with a diamond blade Fuuuuuuuuuuu
dam bro all these fake ass diamonds going around
Dentist use dimonds paste to polish teeth
I'm going to buy a diamond knife and carve holes in my wall
I wasn't trying to make fun of anybody, just thought it was funny :) Sorry if I offended you, or anybody else
Why can't we use charcoal to make synthetic diamonds in the furnace? :(
Went and got toast and a lighter....then realized a needed a 6000 lbs weight.
Holy F$ck... right?😂
Diamond. The hardest metal in the world.
And here we only thought diamonds were for DECORATION. What chumps we are. and...COOL
They ain't just a girls best friend. I love diamonds.
My birthstone is diamond :D
Diamond even though it is natural is the third hardest material on earth
or we can burn them for gas in our cars, and have gas for monthhhhhhhhhhssss
You must know a lot about currency
Please tell me how much 50 pounds is in dollars...
Do you know the DNA STRUCTURE of diamond?
very tough to do, not economical like man made diamond
Welllllll ...at least I'll be able to do it in my back yard 🤷🏼♂️
I am just gonna go out on a limb here, and say you didn't watch the video.
So.. Carbon can be good?
diamond can be made, but not gold.
Gold FTW!!!!!!
It is the hardest natural occurring substance, unnaturally maybe not.
imagine a vest you can wear with diamonds instead of special steel that can stop all kinds of bullets with no scratch. on the other hand it can be use as a bullet too since it's the hardest thing known to man lol.
i DID in fact know all of this. try harder NationalGeographic.

i seen everything in this video covered verbatim on nova.
it doesn't matter because the force of the bullet will still kill you even if it doesn't scratch the diamond armour, you want something that can dissipate its kinetic energy like Kevlar.
But if they are useful, are they really worthless then?
yeah it is... coal is mostly carbon (with impurities)
yes we did actually did land a spacecraft on venus several times. you just never hear about it because the soviets did it and not us
Diamond may be extremely hard but it's not very strong I mean you could cut through a 4ft block of it with a steel blade.
diamond axe !? everything in Minecraft make sense!
I sell diamond blades hit me up if you need some !
when i die i wanna be made in it to a diamond lol
omg, everything was so sparkly o.o
Costs 50 pounds? I didn't know NatGeo was British
Yep, diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring element. Graphene is the hardest man made
This just goes to show that diamonds are not rare 😂 thus, I dont get y its price is ridiculously high
I have a diamond chip in my xbox 360 bitches!
This vid was uploaded a year ago, so technically now's the future........WHERE'S MY BLOODY DIAMONDS!? :)
our whole planet revolves around carbon....
Could they possibly produce diamond with non recyclable materials ? ,in this video they mentioned that synthetic diamond can be produced with any material
If it's based on carbon, because that's what diamonds are, carbon arranged in a special way.
Thinnestmeteor carbon atoms packed very tightly together, creating a very strong bong with each other, diamond atoms repeat their pattern, is diamond a dense material ?
+Waheed Rahman I think it's just the naturally strongest structure is what's replicated with carbon
