    could the diamond "glass" at 2:26 be used for future iPhone displays?

    • @euclideanplane
      @euclideanplane 5 років тому +1

      why would you want fast thermal transfer on your iphone?
      or are you expecting to have a diamond unbreakable screen? I don't think any of these diamonds were see through unfortunately, you got a long ways to go on that, unless you're willing to accept a tiny layer of diamond (thin enough so it becomes opaque) ontop of a layer of glass, idk how that would help anyone

    • @Draco-jk3rb
      @Draco-jk3rb 4 роки тому +1

      diamond can shatter very easily as it is extremely brittle, so it would not make for a good screen. It would be scratch proof but if you dropped your phone the screen would shatter everywhere.

    I have a potentially stupid question.
    If I compress a loaf of bread until it's the size of a golf ball, it'll still weigh the same.
    Why don't diamonds weigh the same as their non-compressed ingredients?
    A daft example probably with inaccurate measurements., if it takes 10k of coal to make one diamond for a wedding ring, why doesn't that ring still weigh 10k?

  • @MistressSerenity
    @MistressSerenity 11 років тому

    The whole concept of a diamond engagement ring didn't occur until an advertising campaign by DeBeers. Advertising has naturalized so much consumption in our world, it's quite sad.

    • @LukeIversArch
      @LukeIversArch 6 років тому

      My guess would be because hard and brittle are two different material properties. Steel is ductile and more resilient to impact.

  • @MarkAkAMarkinator

    There is a diffrence between synthetic and real diamonds.

  •  11 років тому +1

    Because they're so plentiful in number they should be essentially "worthless" in price. The only reason diamonds aren't folds cheaper is because the largest companies that buy diamonds at the source hold back a big amount from the market. There are also places known to have diamonds, but are not being harvested because of the precarious nature of the place in which they are found, and the unique skill and equipment that their retrieval would require.

    You really had to do that did you...assume i was stupid because i said something that is still true? "Do you know nothing about supply and demand", you seriously don't think i know about something that is so undeniably tied to human nature, logic and intelligence? Ofcourse something rare and useful will be more expensive than a...potato.
    You would probably not be able to reproduce it cheaply in a sweatshop in China, or even cheap at all, so it will still be expensive, not just AS expensive.
