Diamonds can't be break or crack easily which basically means it's still hard to destroy And that's all because you need a machine or a hard thing that has more x of pressure to do the job. As simple as that.
Diamonds is the hardest stone but not rhe hardest material ✅ Diamonds can be scratched ✅ Yes, it can break or scratch but for sure it's not way to easy.
A fun fact for everyone talking about how expensive this video must have been to make; Industrial, artificially made diamonds are pretty cheap, and actually harder and more pure than the ones you mine for. The way jewelers decipher real diamonds from fake ones is to actually look for impurities and imperfections. If it has a perfect crystalline structure with no impurities, it's artificial. I'm sure this video wasn't "cheap" to make, but it's not like he ran out to his local jewellery store and spent tens of thousands of dollars on rare gemstones for the sake of smashing them into powder
What bothers me is how pretentious some people are when it comes to natural diamonds. They could have perfectly pure artificial ones but no! "Bring me a diamond mined by children in conflicting areas of Africa!" Humankind can be so stupid.
Ya!! We invented the technology and can build purest diamond at cheaper rates and even harder than natural ones!! But I don't know why people like to exploit our mother earth! Kinda interesting that despite the fact Tungsten is one of the strongest metals known to man, it still gets flattened by a big steel pillar pushing down. Update: I am proud to say I am now the owner of a Tungsten Cube.
So, the thing with crystalline structures is that they have “clevage points”. Essentially, points of structural weakness due to how the molecules are aligned. Mainly, they are straight hits across the top or side. This is also why you can smash a diamond with a hammer fairly easily.

Well mohs doesn't measure tenacity, which is the capability of resisting being fractured, but hardness, which is the capability of resisting being scratched. They are two different things. In other words, you can't scratch a diamond but you can fracture it with no much effort.
I actually find this very interesting. The fianit (cubic zirconium if people don't know) is significantly weaker than diamond so being able to see how lasts under pressure is cool. Especially next to the moissanite, second in hardness next to diamond. So I suppose you could use this as a quick tip for people buying rings; moissanite looks exactly like diamond, lasts forever, doesn't scratch, and is generally only around $500 a carat (last I checked) VS the diamonds at upwards of $4000 per carat. Moissanite is also more environmentally friendly, for those interested. Diamond mining often causes environmental devastation and is cause of many unethical labor practices as well.
If anyone is looking to buy a diamond, don't... It's not worth your money. You are better off buying gold instead. Diamond isn't that rare to cost that much.
@@stellasdoesstuff It's up to the people what they want to buy. It's like saying don't buy big house or earn more money, earn just as much money so that you could live a comfortable life, it's about the desire to have a lavish life which everybody wants.
@@damien2670 True, and I never said otherwise. I'm just giving information since a lot of people don't know that lab grown diamonds exist and that they are a lot cheaper than mined diamonds
It's because he kept focusing on hardness here, which is irrelevant. Hardness has to do with surface strength (i.e. scratch resistance). TOUGHNESS is the property that matters here, which is determined by STRENGTH and DUCTILITY. (I'm not a scientist, but I paid attention in high school)
Guys, a fianit(cubic zirconia) is not a diamond. It is not as hard as a diamond but look really similar, and it's way cheaper than a real diamond. That tungsten cube probably cost more than the small fianit.
@@weetakuT I think most ignorant people will believe that diamond is "strong", but it's not. It's fragile and easy to break, it's only resistant, resistance and strength are not the same.
Haven't watched this, and I'm not going to because _hardness_ and _strength_ are not the same thing. You wouldn't test hardness with a hydraulic press. Anyone can smash a large diamond into fragments with a hammer -- resistance to fracturing is not hardness. Hardness is a measure of resistance to scratching.
well there are many different strengths. Hardness can be measured with a scratch test however a more accurate method is the using a light press using a diamond tip I believe. Rockwell and Brinell scales are a couple metal hardness scales. Then there's the durometer for plastics and rubbers (also a plastic)

You merely adapted the pressure.
I was born in it.
Well mohs doesn't measure tenacity, which is the capability of resisting being fractured, but hardness, which is the capability of resisting being scratched. They are two different things. In other words, you can't scratch a diamond but you can fracture it with no much effort.
What is "mohs" stand for ?
@@senabondara1992 measure of hardness scale
@@senabondara1992 It's named after Friedrich Mohs, the guy who created the scale.
At first i thought about mho which was the unit of conductance lol

" hydraulic " , not "hidraulic"... Hydro, as in water or fluid.. the machine uses a pump and fluid " hydraulic fluid" to increase pressure.

These diamonds are already the size of his fingernails those shards are completely useless

You could also buy lab grown diamonds instead -- cheaper and doesn't exploit people working in mines
Don't try at home : Yes my daddy has diamond showrooms 🤣🤣
Guys, a fianit(cubic zirconia) is not a diamond. It is not as hard as a diamond but look really similar, and it's way cheaper than a real diamond. That tungsten cube probably cost more than the small fianit.
You just saved my day, because DIAMOND IS UNBREAKABLE

@@weetakuT nope it's actually brittle and easy to break. Nothing is unbreakable.
Well that's comforting
@@weetakuT I think most ignorant people will believe that diamond is "strong", but it's not. It's fragile and easy to break, it's only resistant, resistance and strength are not the same.

TUNGSTEN : IT IS ABUSIVE CONTENT, I WILL GO
HYDRAULIC PRESSURE : NO,YOU WON'T
Haven't watched this, and I'm not going to because _hardness_ and _strength_ are not the same thing. You wouldn't test hardness with a hydraulic press. Anyone can smash a large diamond into fragments with a hammer -- resistance to fracturing is not hardness. Hardness is a measure of resistance to scratching.
Exactly, thank you
At last someone who went to Junior high school
Finnaly someone who realized it
well there are many different strengths. Hardness can be measured with a scratch test however a more accurate method is the using a light press using a diamond tip I believe. Rockwell and Brinell scales are a couple metal hardness scales. Then there's the durometer for plastics and rubbers (also a plastic)
Materials Engineering needs to be considered before only crushing things.
