You have a real talent for making even the most humdrum commanders seem very playable and appealing. This is just the sort of content EDH needs to keep thriving. Keep up the great work!
Definitely this. I don't know a lot of Magic cards and every video I watch from this channel I discover more and more. At the end of every video I want to build all the decks and commanders he talks about \o/ Great content as always
> Underwhelming Commanders #13 I just recently started building Hakim (Loreweaver) in paper yesterday. I was inspired to brew it up after watching some gameplay about 6 months ago or so, and I found a bunch of fun stuff. Reality Acid is pretty funny with Displacer Kitten on the field.
Another interesting aspect of Konda is that his 'resting' P/T is 3/3. White has a lot of cards that either favor small-ish creatures or hate on big P/T creatures. Maybe you can throw in a few clever tricks with that?
I actually own that Solkanar deck lol, the whole batch of witherbloom cards with lifegain effects inspired me to build this, it’s very fun and the voltron strategy close out games more often than draining opponents and punishing them with witch of the moors effects. I also put some infect cards since Sol can’t be blocked anyways. It’s underwhelmingly fun to play with and against, or so I’m told.
Great video. I had thought about building a Konda deck in the past but thought it would not really work. I love his art and flavor. Kamigawa in general is my favorite block flavor and art-wise. I just recently completed my collection of all three sets. So nice that I can build a deck with one of the coolest creatures from the sets after all :)
I just build monowhite samurai (because Samurais are kewlll) but moved from Konda because of CMC to Sensei Golden-Tail and then using his abillity to make everything else a Samurai that isnt already and add to their bushio, then a Kindered Boon to then dump mana to give everything divinity counters and boom wide indestructible Samurai army!
I have a Hakim, Loreweaver deck and a lot of people say to me that there way better enchant commanders but the unique off color strategy is so fun and the deck is quite strong! (even more if you put "not fun" card like back to basics or declaration of naught). Thanks to you my deck is even better because I completely slept over the amazing Illusory gains.
This Sol'kanar deck is probably the "strongest" deck I've seen you build on your underwhelming commanders series. The "not so nice" version anyways. I see this deck running over the board if you get good cards at the start. Throw a couple of black tutor cards in there, and I see this being an easy win deck. Huge thank you for showing us this. I see a trip to card kingdom in my very near future, and of course, I will use your promo code. Again, thank you.
Commenting for engagement! I recently had a very similar idea for a Tajic deck. Use mostly indestructible creatures (and manlands/manartifacts) that survive boardwipes and let tajic get the battalion trigger to get him to that sweet spot of 7 power. Plus he only costs 4! Pariah's Shield is definitely a fun one with an indestructible commander.
I recently assembled a Sol'kanar "nostalgia" EDH deck with only pre-8th edition cards with the "old" frame. It's heavily black with only splashes of blue and red. Basically the 2001 version of Grixis goodstuff. 😅 I use the life gain from Sol'kanar to compensate for some of the life loss from cards like Ancient Tomb, Necrologia, Minion of the Wastes and Shauku, Endbringer. Effective? No. Fun? Yes!
I loaded my Sol'k deck with the Swords and swampwalkers. Blanket of Night is another auto include, same with ways to give double strike for both commander damage and Sword triggers.
I built Sol'kanar recently as a demon tribal deck, mostly so I could include Silent-Blade Oni and Gyruda, Doom of Depths but it hasn't run very well. I like your take and had been having a similar idea so I'll have to try some of those cards
i would also recommend pariah/pariah's shield in konda or zetalpa, its hilarious to put that on an indestructible creature and wait for your opponent's to figure it out.
Haha You mentioned Zetalpa and Worldbringer. I literally switched Sram for Zetalpa in my deck. I love how even Hedron Matrix on Zetalpa can be lethal :P
I was looking on MTG Arena for underwhelming commanders, because I do a lot of brewing on there, and the ones that I think are hard to build would be Kaervek, the Spiteful, Yidaro, Wandering Monster, and Egon, God of Death.
Loved your creative solutions around Hakim, like a 'less powerful' Bruna, Light of Alabaster. I'm pretty keen for a brew around Masako the Humorless if you were looking for new material in mono white!
Konda is a wonderful creature in general. If you can get him trample, he attacks for SO MUCH and if players are not ready for him, he is impossible to remove.
I love my Hakim lore weaver deck... If your going for a steal stuff theme there's a couple of pinger auras that let you tap to deal a damage... Then you either pair that with the aura Charisma to steal it or deathtouch to kill it! Obviously you can get untapping auras too to have even more fun!
For Sol’kanar you could use Diamond Mare, Disciple of Bolas, and even Staff of the Death Magus to double down on lifegain. You’re also in extort colors Edit: it might also be good to play to an aristocrat subtheme to cast something like Grave Crawler over and over again
I'm brewing a Mageta The Lion deck (kind of a jank commander but I've just always loved the card), and I've got a few ideas for what directions to take it but I'm not decided. I'd love if you did a deck tech video for him!
I'm still confused on the rulings for Puca's Mischief. If you were to exchange control for an opponents enchanted creature would the enchantment attached to it not come with it? Or maybe i'm getting confused with gaining control and exchanging control?
Yes Sol'Kanar! Im trying to build a deck with him myself. If you're going the Demon Tribal route then Prince of Thralls is a demon that you otherwise can't put in any other Demon Tribal deck.
My suggestion would be Isperia the Inscrutable. Not sure if it's underwhelming enough, but it's certainly not played a lot, with only 159 decks on EDHrec.
Waves and grave robbing. Steal the cards people discard from their graveyards. Awaken the erstwhile is good if have lots of waves. Song of the damned also works great too. I suppose if you really wanted to, crab umbra/pemmin's aura/freed from the real plus infinite mana such as dead eye navigator plus great whale/peregrine drake/palinchron would be a way to get everyones hands. Gonna need to be a casual table but it should be fun. I have a nebuchadnezzar spirit tribal that has iname death aspect as my secret commander.
I keep wondering why I see all these enchantment decks with no shimmering wings, or whip silk etc. They were from a cycle of enchantments that cost 1 to play and 1 to bounce. There's one for each color and I use them all the time. Never see them in videos though, weird 🤔
About recommending commanders, I want to see a Cho-Manno, Revolutionary deck... I trying to build but is very difficult to make an interesting deck out of it.
I've seen it in elesh norn. It's evil urborg has no color identity. Also looking into making a salef the new exile permanent equal to his plus one counters. It's evil as well
Since geode golem says you still pay any additional costs, would you still have to pay commander tax? Im not sure but i think commander tax is counted as an additional cost.
On cards you should be playing have you seen the card called restore it says put target land card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control
Unfortunately, magus of the moon would make hakim lose its creature typing, making it unable to be a legal target of most of your swap-enchantment effects.
I could need your help in my opinion you are making the coolest decks of all magic players and i have a problem with two of my decks. I want to play the commander but dont like the direction on edhrec the decks are arcangel avacyn and jorn god of winter. I hope you or someone else could help me ^-^

I wanted to build a Sol'kanar deck for a long time. You inspired me for a life gaining theme in Grixis. Thx. :)
I swear you're one of the only people that actually made me wanna make a Mishra deck just by watching your vids on underwhelming commanders
Another interesting aspect of Konda is that his 'resting' P/T is 3/3. White has a lot of cards that either favor small-ish creatures or hate on big P/T creatures. Maybe you can throw in a few clever tricks with that?
Love the underwhelming commander videos they are super fum

Commander for next poll: Ragnar!
I have no idea how to build it, but it seems like a cool deck.
Great video. I had thought about building a Konda deck in the past but thought it would not really work. I love his art and flavor. Kamigawa in general is my favorite block flavor and art-wise. @@azesportscards8260 sounds cool. Did you get to play it yet?
@@Jug_or_not yeah, its pretty fun looks low power but once all the samurais have divinity country board wipe then take over!

Hakim is quite the sleeper. Loved your take on him. Feels very unique in mono-blue

I love your Channel Bro. Keep up with the great work! Greetings from Brazil.
Love to see your take on Zagras, thief of heartbeats, it was my first commander deck and still my most fun
Commenting for engagement!

Trying to build a Konda myself at the moment! Some great choices, I'll be picking them up ASAP.

You must really like hakim as a commander because I can hear your hands waving around lol
Lmao
Konda was my first Commander (I learned to play in Hard Mode apparently). Glad to see him get some love.
Haha You mentioned Zetalpa and Worldbringer. I literally switched Sram for Zetalpa in my deck. I love how even Hedron Matrix on Zetalpa can be lethal :P
I very much enjoy your deck building!

Hakim actually seems really cool! I think I’m gonna throw it together.
Dude that Hakim deck looks siiiiiiiiick.
I have a Sol'Kanar storm deck that's pretty fun.
I built a Sol' Kanar deck on MTGO. He's such a fun commander.
I really like playing blue "change color or land names"-Cards in SolKanar, making his landwalk a lil more interesting :)
Great video. Subbed

A deck idea id like to see is atraxa built around the myojin and their divinity counters
that Hakim, Loreweaver deck was hella interesting.
I'd absolutely throw Avacyn into the 99 of that mono white deck.
Yes Sol'Kanar! Im trying to build a deck with him myself. If you're going the Demon Tribal route then Prince of Thralls is a demon that you otherwise can't put in any other Demon Tribal deck.

Taniwha! Such a weird commander and very rare (only ~40 decks on EDHRec)
Currently trying different 3 colour brews for a grandeur deck. I'm sure I can make Sol'kanar work.
You could also throw Pariah / Pariah's Shield in the Konda deck, if it's not already in there
So strange and interesting strategies👍
I would love to see your thoughts on Nebuchadnezzar. He’s my favorite commander :)
Waves and grave robbing. Steal the cards people discard from their graveyards. Awaken the erstwhile is good if have lots of waves. Song of the damned also works great too. haha i just made a zetalpa deck last week, man does that card have a scary combination of keywords. such an underrated card.
I keep wondering why I see all these enchantment decks with no shimmering wings, or whip silk etc. They were from a cycle of enchantments that cost 1 to play and 1 to bounce. There's one for each color and I use them all the time. Never see them in videos though, weird 🤔
Those are great.
I built Hakim with control magic and aura graft. Being in blue and not having enough mana made it very clunky though.
Underwhelming Commanders let's go!
About recommending commanders, I want to see a Cho-Manno, Revolutionary deck... I trying to build but is very difficult to make an interesting deck out of it.
Sol'kanar sounds very strong with either captain kirk aka krrik and with bolas citadel. Spend life instead of mana and gain some life right back
I would love to see what you would do with a Kytheon, Hero of Akros // Gideon, Battle-Forged
deck
that whole kormus bell + urborg combo would be cool in a silumgar the drifting death deck too if you wanted to focus on it more.
I've seen it in elesh norn. It's evil urborg has no color identity. Also looking into making a salef the new exile permanent equal to his plus one counters. It's evil as well
One of these times, could you add Krond, the Dawn-Clad as an option for the underwhelming commander series?
Since geode golem says you still pay any additional costs, would you still have to pay commander tax? Im not sure but i think commander tax is counted as an additional cost.
In yugioh I play samurai so I would love to be able to play a good samurai deck in MTG
konda voltron sounds very cool
You said "golem" like 3 different ways in this video
honestly how i vote is i pick the most interesting commander not just the one that looks bad
On cards you should be playing have you seen the card called restore it says put target land card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control
Unfortunately, magus of the moon would make hakim lose its creature typing, making it unable to be a legal target of most of your swap-enchantment effects.
With the upcoming Kamigawa Neon Dynasty, i’m gonna build. Iname ad One spirit tribal.
Can we get Nin, the pain artist on one of these lists?
I’m whelmed
why do all your links lead to cloudflare blocking me
If only Hakim wasn't mono blue
I could need your help in my opinion you are making the coolest decks of all magic players and i have a problem with two of my decks. I want to play the commander but dont like the direction on edhrec the decks are arcangel avacyn and jorn god of winter. I hope you or someone else could help me ^-^
Hakim: Haa-keem. Every time I heard the mispronunciation I cringed.
Hey stop taking my deck builds lol. I love kronus bell exiling everyones lands lol
Tivash is super trash, don’t use him.
