Earlier in the episode you see the community cooking up a stew and a man brings this tub of meat for the stew. The woman cooking asks what it is and the man says its "venison" it's in that moment of hesitation in the mans response that you kinda figure it out that it might not be venison. I loved the subtlety of the darkness this community hides.
Bella's face when she was trying to tell Joel what happened...FUCK I cried man.
I hope this girl gets all the nominations she deserves and win as many as she has truly earned. These two full Ellie episodes have been amazing. I didn't watch the "next week" trailer for the first time for the season finale because I don't want to start trying to predict all that's going to happen.
Episode 7 was 💩 this episode was fantastic … thank god it got violent finally
@@SGhosht nah bro it was amazing adaptation of the DLC.
I never watch it. It just detracts from the experience of watching the next episode and there is no need for it to build up my anticipation. It's already there.
@@ShArp_MK ahhhhhh riiiigggghhhht
I was almost in tears and she didn’t even have to say anything..
This was in my top 3 episodes of the season. Loved it. Fantastic adaptation of the David storyline.
This is the episode I’ve been waiting for & it didn’t disappoint, all I needed was Joel torturing fools & baby girl, this was a 10/10 for me.
I agree my third favorite episode!
David is far more terrifying than some of the infected are. Just how subtle he is and creepy. You know what he was doing to that girl who lost her dad. They didn't have to show it. It's crazy how I didn't even mind there being no infected in this episode. They absolutely nailed the adaption of this storyline and I can't fucking wait for next week's finale. Sucks it's over after next week. Great review!
The girl that David slapped. Was that Abby ?
@@isaiahwilliams2332 not even close
@@nikomarceau7826 are they at a point in the story where they can wrap up the first game in this last episode ?
@@isaiahwilliams2332 yeah pretty much
When he said it's ok baby girl... I started crying
dude I agree; as someone who has not played the game, the tension in that scene where Ellie is in the cage was so intense. especially how every subtly about David's true nature is slowly revealed. end of this episode was so satisfying..which makes me think ep9 will probably be devastating lol
I liked the way they did this. David was my favorite chapter of the game, and I think they did a good job of translating that. Part of me hoped for a little bit more of the diner scene, a little more running and navigating maybe with Ellie trying to creep up on David once or twice, but I’m pretty happy with the way they did this one. Great episode. I’m really excited and nervous for next week
I didn’t think I was gonna cry at this episode, but somehow here we are, I’ve officially shed a tear every Sunday for the last 8 weeks. I had totally forgotten about the end of that chapter where Joel came and found Ellie after she killed David.
I’ve gotten about everything I’ve wanted out of this season, but man oh man I hope they’ve got a doozy planned for next week. There’s still a TON of the story to get through and only one episode. So whatever they do I hope it really brings it home. Even if it’s different from the video game, I just really hope they stick the landing. I’m sure they will, but still, it’s a lot to pack into one episode
The moment when Joe said: it's okay, I believe him, is indeed one of the bests of the episode.
Thumbs down dude. The characters name is Joel. Not Joe. Joel. SMH.
@@Dustyphoto915 you know what a typo is right? Most people don’t proof their messages they just hit send lol
Man, Ellie kicks ASS!
This is the episode that makes me angry in regards to the Bella Ramsey haters. Bella deserves all of the awards.
It’s much easier to bitch and moan than it is to appreciate. If anything, don’t be angry about them. Feel sorry for them instead 👍
@@asadnyjfan9008 You have a very good point.
She has haters ? She’s perfect as Ellie I don’t see how anyone can hate on it
It’s just that Ashley Johnson, who was an adult when she played the role lol, had a better performance as Ellie in the game. It’s not a big deal but getting all worked up that people like the game version more seems a little silly
dude she’s amazing. this episode alone was an incredible performance from her
dude I love hearing going through these things you’re so passionate about. finally cool to actually have you being a “broken record” about something being so so good because there’s so much disappointing media so often lol 🤘🤘
"Baby Girl" Those two words killed me. 😥
Watched an interview tonight where Bella said they were leaving for Canada soon to start filming season 2. This was a 10 out of 10 episode
??? So there won’t be a time jump? How she gone be older 😭😭😭
@@AliFrankTheTank I’m just saying what she said. I have no idea
Yessss I was patiently waiting for your upload as soon as I finished the episode 🙌🏼
I had no knowledge of the video game story. The love being surprised. The brutality of the scene was great along with the reveal of what's goin on.
Loved it!!!
CODY!!! JESUS! I honestly can't pick a favorite episode. I can't explain how much I love everything they have done so far. Last 4 nights I watch an episode or 2 then your reviews. I can't wait for the finale. Cheers bro
Loving this show and enjoy your recaps! I'm not familiar with the game so this was all new. The actress who plays Ellie was amazing in this episode. I didn't catch David's sexual advance in the burning restaurant but I did think that Ellie should've been more soaked with blood after that final scene there. I also wish I saw a little carnage only cause its like HBO, c'mon! lol. The embrace with Joel saying "baby girl" was so moving. One thing I'm noticing is that there is very little time spent not only on the infected, but nothing from their pov. Its such a sad state and I would've liked even one scene where an infected person has a flashback to when they were normal, to evoke some sympathy. Anyway, not looking forward to the last episode....cause then it'll be over!
[Randy here] You know an episode is great when you finish watching it and can't wait to see the next one. I haven't played the game and am left wondering how the season ends. David really elevated the episode as a dangerous, creepy villain that needs to be horribly beat to death. Great review.
One word to describe this episode? TENSE! Absolutely tense!
At this point, I don't understand the negativity surrounding Bella as Ellie. She delivered greatly, especially during the second half.
The torture scene in live-action? *chef's kiss* We saw the savage in the game during said sequence, and we saw the savage in live-action during said sequence. He was not playing!
David? Sick man in the game, but even sicker in live-action. "There's no fear in love" was the most disturbing sht I ever seen. I nearly threw the F up. David getting chopped up in live-action was beautiful to watch. The screams Bella gives was chilling.
And of course, the "baby girl" part. Dammit, that nearly broke me.
This show is on another level. Jesus Christ, I love this series.
Yeah this one made me cry. When she kills David and tries to tell Joel what happened. Man I broke. What a fucking episode
Shutup
I had some reservations about the show before it was released but they did a good job with it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've watched this channel before and I dig all the Easter eggs in the background. I'm gonna sub.
as someone who has not played the game brother, you are spot on that whole episode was INTENSE! thanks again for another awesome video.
I am amazed by the consistency of this show. They DELIVER every week, it’s incredible. Maybe it’s because the game has such a special place in my heart, but damn, I do think this is a perfect adaptation.
David failed God and God sent Ellie to punish him. Everything happens for a reason.
Joel used the same threat when he interrogated the two men he tied up in this episode as the older couple in the cabin in ep.6. That scene was played with a bit more humor though. Really enjoyed this episode, can't believe we only have one left!
I thought about the girl who was crying at the beginning of the episode and wanted her father buried. They told her the ground was too cold and hard to bury her father, but they/she had already eaten his remains for dinner. Yikes.
I love how they start the episode with the young girl asking about burying her father, just to realize later, her father’s ear is on the floor next to the butcher chamber. Happy they didn’t shy aware from the dark corners of this segment cause it really needed it.
This episode, in my opinion, has taken the crown. I absolutely love this portrayal of this segment. My only gripe of this episode. Is David and Ellie did not get attacked by at least 4 clickers or infected. It really would’ve been cool to see that part, because it adds so much to the “you can trust me” aspect of David in the first half of his appearance. The fact that they couldn’t slide in a 2-3 min segment is a shame. The actor they got to play David always plays a creep, so I knew he could do the role justice. Seeing this turning point with Ellie breaking the violent mold by recreating David’s death was awesome. On top of that, seeing that raw violence of Joel finally coming out. It was a chefs kiss. Even though the hour feels short. It was a thrilling watch and they really knocked it out of the park. P.S. Troy did a great job and love how our voice actors have been getting killed violently through this show 😂
I'm mixed on David's casting, but it makes me smile every time this show mirrors the game.
My wife mentioned how awful David is…but she also mentioned holy shit Joel is a psychopath. The interrogation scene itself…man. Also I hope show fans noticed this was the 2nd time Joel did his point it on the nap routine
Not a psychopath, a father that knows loss
On it with these videos ! Love the passion and hustle 👏
Yes!!!! Top 3 at least if not my favorite bk n forth between this one and the Sam n Henry episode as my favorite. And it's even showing Ellie starting to be colder and meaner and it's so awesome
this was probably my favorite so far. loved the way they handled David and the winter section of the game.
Can’t believe we are at the end of the season. My goodness.
Appreciate the clips from the Game. Been awhile since Ive played the game, so the clips are a solid refresher.
This episode was adapted pretty much perfectly!!
Top 3 episode for sure. As someone who’s never played the game. I think episodes 8, 5, 2 are my personal top 3. Which 3 are yours?
3, 1, 5. 8 would be 4th.
Your gonna have to change that order next week significantly
@@theogofguitar lets see
Only problem with this show is lack of infected. Why they omit the infected is beyond me
Yes that’s one of my main gripes. Apart from the clickers and episode 5 not anything else.
Money. The budget is probably 50-75 million for the season and would be closer to 200 million if the infected were in every ep.
@Dishonestney the infected are omitted from a lot of episodes so that when they are on screen they’re much more of a threat. If we saw them every episode seeing them wouldn’t be as scary, nor would we feel like our characters are in danger. The infected would basically become cannon fodder.
This was my favorite episode. The world kind of felt less dangerous and it almost felt like there was no conflict. I am so happy that they brought back the violence and conflict in this episode.
While I agree this was a great episode, I do have to disagree on this being better than the video game version. I found David and Ellie's dynamic to have been extremely rushed in the show. They had two conversations in the show before things grew antagonistic between them, and apparently from those two conversations David was able to deem that Ellie was his "equal" and "true friend." Granted, the guy is a creep so it's safe to assume he's lying to Ellie to get her to drop her guard, but in the game those action sections actually gave credence to why David would value and desire (ew) Ellie so much. She helped to fight off a horde of infected and a bloater in the game, which would seem pretty valuable to any cult leader looking to expand his flock. Also, the fight does help to bond them as both worked together to survive a horrible situation. Sure, we as the players may not have been fooled by David's act but I can see why Ellie was, if only for a little bit. Afterall, David did legitimately help Ellie and save her life a few times, even if it was for awful reasons. Without the zombie fight, a huge piece for the puzzle about why David is so fixated on Ellie is lost, and there isn't as much context about why he says the things he says about her when she's locked up.
However, I do think this a great series and engaging episode of television, but I do think the game's version of events was far superior to what we got here. David's story arc should have gotten two episodes in my opinion, not Kathleen or the Kansas City arc.
I second that regarding the two part Kathleen bit. This section could have easily made this section the two parter. I still enjoyed this episode, but your breakdown does make me wish they made a different choice regarding the source material.
When they said they were toning down the conflict and violence from the game, I wasn't concerned because constant game level fighting can't be implemented into a series and be realistic. But I think they've watered it down too much. This episode in particular would've benefited from it. Ellie and David teaming up to fight some infected, like in the game, I think is needed here to give more impact to this story. We also didn't have Joel tear up the town on his way to Ellie. So without all of that, it's kind of odd then how they casually walk off with the restaurant burning and no one coming to the site of the fire.
Another 10/10. However, next week’s finale being only 43 minutes long does have me a bit nervous
Is it seriously only 43 min ?!?!?
I was expecting the last episode to not be over an hour, but only 43 minutes dang. Hope it doesn’t feel rushed. Based off the quality of the rest of the season so far though I have high hopes 😄
I hope it doesn't end on a cliffhanger instaed of where the game ended
@@lucasgordon1551 it’ll end the same as the game. The final scene will probably be identical
It’s only ten minutes shorter than this one with arguably less to cover
When David picked Eli up after james shot the horse , i got the vibe why he wanted her, but i also though the guys wanted to kill her to save her from David
In my opinion it’s been the perfect adaptation. Bella and Pedro were perfectly cast. The show has honored characters from the game by actually having them act in the show. The most important moments are essentially shot for shot. They add just enough to make it work for television. Cinematography, score, visuals and effects are phenomenal. I have all the faith in the world the finale will be satisfying.
I'm not saying they need to show tons or violence and gore but they do too many cuts to black when someone gets hit and wish they would show a little more
I LOVE this episode, Bella is amazing and powerful, Pedro a badass and Scott Shepherd really creepy, maybe my favorite with episode 5.
So glad to watch Troy Baker too.
I feel like every week, a different actor steps up and says hold my beer,I’m about to out act everybody.
My favorite episode so far like WOW
This is a great episode. And Bella is doing a great job as ellie. If there were any doubts still, don't know why, they were silenced after this episode. Joel and ellie are officially surrogate family now. It sets up the finale perfectly. And I love how closely this episode follows the game. Perfect. And I'm so hyped to see the actress who plays ellie in the game playing her mother in the series. I saw a glimpse in the trailer but I'm beyond hyped for this finale. I know 100% it's going to be my favorite episode.
Ashley Johnson is an amazing actress has been acting since she was a baby on growing pains
I am floored how this series has gotten everything right. Pure fan service while not sacrificing quality for non gamer viewers. It’s incredible how they have turned actual gameplay (not cut scenes, gameplay!!!!) into scenes. Absolutely phenomenal!!!
Wish they put the David stuff into two episodes to give his story some more room to breathe. I’m seeing other people say this episode felt a tad rushed. I do agree however I did enjoy it.
This entire show has been rushed imo
@@alexc195 Yeah the pacing has been my main complaint. I became concerned when they teleported from Boston to KC in less than 2 days. Ellie mentioned it was her second day in the car in Episode 4. It took me a bit out of the story and made that world feel smaller and less dangerous.
This show is the definition of rushed...I understand it's a lot of money to make shows at this kind of level but if you're gonna do it, do it right. Changed too much from the original source material and then you spend an episode on Bill, could've been half an episode and still get the same impact, the Kathleen subplot, and the overall change and lack of infected. Idk how people can eat this crap up lmao it's so bad imo
@@bakashinji overrated show tbh
@@bakashinji i agree, ive been disappointed in the lack of how many infected are seen in the show and how rushed it began to feel. ive been thinking im crazy for not enjoying the show so its good to know im not alone lmfao
Great episode although Joel’s recovery felt a little rushed after Ellie left and he had to defend himself, if he got up like that he literally could’ve left with Ellie and they both could have escaped
Also what the hell happened to all the people in David’s group like all of a sudden they all disappeared and it would have been nice to see Joel take out some of David’s men with that rifle he had on his way to Ellie I also felt like a missed opportunity in the game Joel stops Ellie from continuing to hit David and hugs her
would have been very nice to include that in the show where Joel had to witness what Ellie had to do to survive we know how terrible he felt when she had to shoot the kid in the other episode
I think the blood splattered across her face was a pretty good indication to Joel of what she went through
horses just do not fair well in the apocalypse...
I loved/hated this episode. Bills Town and the Resort were always my favorite chapters. Bills town was such a great episode but the Resort I felt was very rushed. Still great! 8.5/10
Should we be worried about the final episodes time run? If you have seen it mate... because im a little concerned about that, i really hope they pull it off
I loved episode 8 I give it a 10 out of 10
I had the opposite view of David in game vs show. I could tell David is a bad guy in the show immediately vs David in the game where I wasn’t 100% sure about him
Probably because you played the game before you watched the show lol
I don't remember. But was David portrayed as a Cannibal in the game?
Loved seeing Troy Baker play a character with a good amount of screen time, he did great!!
David also saying he was a teacher bruh
Actually tho , in real life when you chop someone's head open like that , the truth is blood isnt going to splash everywhere like in video games . Pieces of flesh , skin or eye balls might stick on the knife if lucky tho
I love when Joel tells the one guy you don’t have to tell me because I believe him
I have one criticism, one minute Joel can't even move and then the next minute he's killing dudes and marching through a blizzard to find Ellie.A little plot convenience if you ask me.
This show gets ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️, can't wait for next season 😃!!
Will there be an episode ranking after the finale review drops?
This is definitely my favourite episode so far.
thought by far this was the best episode. For the first time Joel is depended on Ellie.
Ellie never giving up on Joel like he’s never given up on her.
This show I forget there are infected people 😆
It sounds like the infected are the least of peoples problems
It’s the people left on earth is the problem.
The title “The Last Us” is a misleading title. It sounds like 2-4 ppl left on earth lol.
The villain David creeped me out and his acting was top tier. Same for Ellie.
God this episode was so good.
I have a feeling last episode will be left on a cliffhanger to keep people wondering & waning more 😡 ugh
I understand people’s frustration with the first season being short, I have a feeling they didn’t know this many people would tune in and had a certain budget to withhold. I’m sure this time next year we might get a season 2 or maybe the following year. I thought the way Bill & Franks episode was wrote was beautifully done and episode 8 had me at the edge of my seat!
Ahhhh killing the horse was so sad 😭
I was hoping this episode had dialogue and moments straight out of the game and it fuckin delivered!
I was cheesing the whole way through, in between digging my fingers into the sofa from how tense it was. Sets recreated from the game, script and *that* torture scene!
Every one knocked it out of the park! My favourite episode so far.
I just hope there’s another encounter with some infected before the hospital finale.
Makes me wanna play the game again. For like the 100th time 😃
YAY, we're back on track with episode 8!! Thank God Lol... 🤷🤦🤣
Joel is that boy!
This show has been amazing a podcast I occasionally listen to had all 4 host say it's just more of the walking dead after the first episode and I couldn't find where they would get that from aside from it being a post apocalyptic "zombie" show other then that it's definitely not a walking dead clone
This episode was awesome! The Last of Us might be one of the great 1st seasons of tv ever. 9.7/10
someone clip the slap to the little girl
The only complaint I have in this episode is that they didn't add in the music when ellie kills David and Joel finally catches up to her 😭
I love how Ellie said something to David like "what, so like a cult?" and he makes it sound like it's about the religion but yea it turns out it's kind of a cult lol.
Hey dude. I obviously don't want spoilers for episode 9 for those who haven't played the game, but seeing as though you've seen the whole series, would you be willing to tell us the length of the finale?
I'm worried that if it's less than an hour, it's going to feel rushed.
This might have been my fav episode
I think the fact that Joel failed Ellie again, protecting her from David, will build up his drive to protect Ellie even more in the last episode, where he will go Punisher mode in St.Mary's Hospital
I think they did a good job with the David story. Well I always figured he was going to try to be a bad guy it didn’t have me fooled for a bit or at least thinking he’s not as bad as he was in that game when he is on par or worse.
So I'm assuming the young girl with the dead father at David's camp is supposed to be Abby? 🤷🏻♂️
Nobody NOBODY CAN TELL ME PEDRO SAID ILL POP YOUR KNEECAP OFF WITH MORE INTENSITY THAN TROY BAKER DELIVERED THAT SAME LINE.
I still can't get over the fact that David made that woman and her daughter eat their husband/father for dinner and then he got the biggest plate of food!!
I now 💯 convinced noone can do a videogame movie justice. The game is SO MUCH better than the show!! However i do appreciate the effort. But nowbody is joell except Troy Baker
Not bad but still, missed oppertunities ...
Woman that was a little girl that David slapped lol
Fantastic episode
It's a shame that was not getting a new season next year it'd be worth the wait if it's just as good as this one but still great television shows like Dexter and Breaking Bad we're able to crank out a season a year and they had longer seasons all that said let's hope season 2 is a banger
Quality over quantity. A longer wait for another incredible season is better than if they just sprung them out every year
I agree don't get me wrong but my problem is quantity at the expense of quality like I said there are plenty of great shows that that were able to stay consistent in quality year after year
I think we are getting long gaps for quality but also….we likely have a pt3 5 years away at least. I cannot see the show going past the game. Unless ND doesn’t announce a pt3 by end of next year. Maybe they just continue on there but season 2 is going to really dictate if we deviate and if they do then they can do a bit beyond the game but pt2 can stretch 2 seasons, they cannot compress pt2 into one unless we get a 14-16 episode season that gets a mid season split
I can’t remember if Joel was attacked and fought back at the university or if he just attacked right away . I haven’t played the games but I somewhat thought what Joel did in the game was questionable and that’s why the conflict happened in part 2. In the show I think Joel is attacked in the university and so he defends himself making the whole situation justifiable . So now I’m going to dislike the things that will happen bc the group is just mad that they killed their people but like they deserved it .
That being said I literally love this show.
They attacked first. They shot at him through the window first.
Your mixing up who the group from part 2 is, they haven’t been shown in the show yet and Joel definitely attacks first
@@rileysevern1968 👍 Ok makes more sense
Best episode after the first one in my opinion 🔥👌🏽
Another top tier episode!!
I’m really looking forward to watching this later as it’s my favourite part of the game. This is definitely the best adaptation of a video game ever. However that being said, for me the series moves forwards far too quickly. Pedro Pascal is great as Joel, but we haven’t seen the brutality of the character like Joel in the game. Bella Ramsay is killing it as Ellie.
I thought the episode was good but not nearly as impactful as how things happened in the game. Really watered down in various ways in my opinion.
Overall the show has been excellent but the game is still the superior take on the story.
That's the whole show in a nutshell. Watered down and rushed version of the game. Don't know why people are meatriding this show so hard
Well Troy Baker certainly got a better role here than Nolan North got in the Uncharted movie.
Well this shuts up all the people who don’t like Bella as Ellie. You were saying…
I hope there is a lot of infected action next episode since it’s the last one. I can understand why people who played the games are super into this. But as a person who hasn’t played the games, this show has been boring.
I thought it was a weird choice to have Joel die and Ellie and David start a relationship together in Florida. but who am I to judge what Neil druckmann wants in this adaptation.
The game is better in every way, but the show is ok for people who are not into gaming
While I absolutely love the show and think it's very well written, acted and directed, I have one major complaint. It seems like they have REALLY toned down the infected over the game. While it's been a few years since I played, it feels like the show has only like 25% of the amount of infected you deal with in the game.
I thought this episode was solid, however, I feel it was also the most flawed of the season. What I always feared about an adaptation of The Last of Us and the big reason I wasn't as amped as a lot of people before it came out is that I couldn't shake the feeling that some of the scenes just aren't as powerful if you don't have the experience of playing as the character in addition to the cut scenes. By and large, what I've loved about this show is that they can address this issue by expanding the world, characters, or even pre-existing characters' stories and origins.
In this episode, however, I thought the additional townspeople and the Christian cult vibes didn't really have much payoff. We never check back in with them after stuff goes awry. Not even a scene of all the emaciated townsfolk looking in despair at the burning butcher's building. Honestly, I think it would've been better if they followed the game more loyally. David and Ellie working together killing infected really made his "heel turn" more effective, in my opinion, and it was easier to focus on him, to a much lesser degree James, and a bunch of more or less faceless male scavengers who we can easily assume are all kinda scummy dudes. Maybe if some of the town's women or old/weaker men in the TV show version participated that would've solved my issue, but it just felt like we forgot about them. Like the only reason I can think of as to why the scene where David hit that little girl was included was maybe to imply he had his eyes on her/had already done something to this girl but that sounds kinda insensitive to an already proven sensitive writing staff. I genuinely hope that maybe some of the people we met in this group come back next season if the show goes off script game-wise but I don't know if I can hope that hard.
Otherwise though, Bella Ramsey crushed and David was indisputably creepy so I guess that's what ultimately matters in this chapter.
Best episode of season 1
