It’s pretty clear she figured out what he was doing but went along with it anyway. _Why_ she did is still sort of unclear, but my guess is that she wanted him to see her as a good person for as long as possible (if you pay attention to her actions it does fit). So you could say the “humanity” in her is what lead her to this point, which is interesting for a number of reasons.

@@cinnamonshade6835 yeah I’m sure that’s part of it, but what ultimately convinced her to go with him (or at least what they made it seem like convinced her) was when Armin told her she’d be a bad person in his eyes if she didn’t. I wouldn’t put it past her to find some other way, but she valued Armin’s opinion too much to do so. That’s how I like to interpret this scene anyway.
Armin explained thoroughly how he knew Annie was the female titan. It started with the mystery person who killed the two captured titans. The survey corp inspected everyone's 3D-maneuver gear as part of their investigation, and no one's gear betrayed any clues as to who the killer was. Except for Armin, who saw Annie's 3D-maneuver gear and recognized it and knew that it wasn't hers. It was Marco's, who died at some unknown point during the battle of Trost and whose gear was never found. Armin knew then that she must have stolen it, and she was using it now to hide any evidence that could be gleaned from her own gear to prove that she was the saboteur who killed the two titans. After already having sussed her out as a traitor, even though he didn't want to believe it, it wasn't hard for him to recognize the resemblance between her and the female titan when it showed up, especially since the female titan chose not to kill him when she could have. The female titan didn't hesitate to slaughter anyone else that got in her way, but she let Armin live. Why? Because she knew him personally and didn't want to kill him. When that possibility occurred to him and he remembered Annie's suspicious behavior previously, it wasn't hard for him to make the connection.
Not to mention he kinda confirmed his theory when he said "the suicidal bastard is at the rear" and that's when she started going towards there because they only people who know eren as the suicidal bastard were the people they trained with

Armin knew that she wanted Eren Captured and not killed, since she kept him in his mouth alive when she was in Titan form. Thus it show Armin's cunning when he told her that the "military police was going to kill and dissect Eren, forcing her to actually go with the plan to help Eren escape. She sniffed the shadiness a mile away and was forced into joining. Rewatching episodes really show how the brilliance of the writing.
If the goal is to capture Eren alive, it would be more logical to watch Armin and company from the shadows than to walk directly into a trap. She breaks the ceiling of the basement where Eren is and does not try to catch him, but immediately runs to the wall. Annie walks into the trap only after Armin says "You will be a bad person to me."

Yeah thats something i missed, in part cause i was watching the dub. Wasn't till much later when watching some sub reactions that i caught that. Much as i enjoy and much prefer the dub for most shows, they have some pretty big errors in hindsight. Its an interesting line in sub that you may start questioning, but in the dub she says "like i told you, i dont have the constitution for it" which yeah that's not a good translation. Guess at the time, they didn't know how important that line was

Everyone says it's obvious that the female titan was Annie but when i first watched this i was surprised as heck. I'm the type who just dont easily believe the resemblance and hints and thought the author was pulling a reserve psychology by making it too obvious and that there's more to it and i was so confused and had no idea until she just fckng transform, so yeah, it happened to me not just in this reveal, this show is crazy
in the aftermath of the big fight, we saw Annie say I'm sorry over and over again, so I'm at least sure that she did not enjoy killing all these people.
the term "OVA" means "original video animation" ; OVAs are extra episodes that are not a part of the main storyline, but provide extra background (i.e., tell you more about a specific character, show Holiday Specials, etc) -- for AOT, it is a good idea to watch them! The lagh of Annie when they discoverred the truth was because she felt relief that she doesn't have to hide that anymore, also she was tired and sad because she fight and lost Eren the day before.
Than and armin still saying they could just talk about it. It was irony. Here he was being a true friend despite not knowing her true mission and it was like a smack in the face. Why did she have to befriend someone so kind. And now she has to fulfill her mission and won’t be able to enjoy his friendship anymore. It was a “my god this life I live is sooo fucked up” type of laugh.

Well, he said something like "Avenge the suicidal bastard, I saw him under her feet. My best friend was crushed by this titan" something like that. Well, he said "the suicidal bastard" and "my best friend", only those who were close to Armin, Eren and Mikasa knew who he was talking about, so he put it together and realized it was Annie.

I had a feeling it was Annie around Episode 19-ish but I didn't want to believe it because it seemed so off and random. I was half expecting it to be some random character we never met before.

i kind of knew it first time watching, but only pretty late. because i totally forgot about annie in general. i just knew that that titans face looked EXTREMELY familliar. so i knew it was one of them, but i couldnt remember annie. later on though, it hit my like the most obvious thing.
I did think Krista too at first especially when she showed up with the horses after the female titan ran off. The blonde hair gives us viewers several suspects.

to answer your question, here is how armin figured out that annie was the female titan (without spoilers) + things that hinted it 1. she had marco’s maneuver gear at the gear check. the reason why they even had to do the check in the first place was to figure out who killed the two testing titans. since annie didn’t bring her gear, it meant that she used it that night to kill the two titans, meaning that she was a traitor. 2. during jean, reiner, and armin’s fight with annie as the female titan, at one point, armin yelled out “that’s the one! that’s the one who killed him, avenge that suicidal bastard!!” or something like that. after he said that, the female titan stopped moving. the reason armin said this in the first place was to make the female titan believe that she accidentally killed eren already. but armin never said the name “eren”, he only said his nickname. because the female titan stopped moving all of a sudden, armin was able to limit the identity of the female titan to being someone among the 104th training corps. 3. the similarity in looks. this one isn’t as big as the other two, but the physical resemblance said a lot about the female titan’s identity. 4. the female titan didn’t kill armin. in fact, she spared armin twice. this showed armin that the female titan had to have some sort of prior connection with him since he was spared. 5. something that hinted about armin knowing the female titan’s identity was when him, reiner, and jean were stranded and had to choose two people to go on the horse. armin volunteered to stay back, but he was about to tell jean and reiner to specifically tell erwin something (probably the female titan’s identity) until he got cut off by christa showing up. 6. when annie refused to go underground in this episode, it confirmed that she was indeed the female titan because she can’t transform underground. remember when eren was locked up underground before his trial?
I will add: at the second meeting, when Annie knocks Armin off his horse, Armin turns his head lying on and looks at her and we see a VERY strong surprise. Then the whole "suicide" conversation takes place. Then in the next episode, we are shown what Armin actually saw: the face of a Female titan in shadow, but not the eyes. They are brightly highlighted and attract attention, which means that Armin's attention was directed to this detail. It wasn't until he recognized Annie's eyes that he deduced FT's identity. These moments last for a few seconds, but they are significant and even present in the manga. .
She didn't wanna go bc she is not able to turn into a titan in there and armin literally told how he found out that she is the female titan step by step. And annie found out that it's a trap when armin asked her but she proceeded with his plan bc she wanted to be a good person for him.
Attack on titan: No Regrets OVA, it's 2 episodes long, and it is about Levi's past. OVAs are like extra episodes for the anime they add some bonus info or context. There are many ovas, but this one is the best, and probably people are interested in this one the most.
It will be revealed later how armin figured it out but basically he had his suspicion since she had Marco’s gear but the key lies in how the female Titan was looking for eren specifically because she knew how eren’s face looks like when only the instructors and those of the same 104th regimen knew his face, it’s not like they had photographs to show how he looks like to everyone and even during the previous arc with the operation where eren sealed the hole in the wall with a boulder he was standing up high on the wall when he was introduced so it’s hard to make out his face and end less to recognize it later but the real evidence is in what he shouted during his encounter with the female Titan and made her believe that someone else was eren using a nickname only known among the trainees and the female Titan reacted to it
AoT is really good at unexpected, yet very sensible twists. It's also incredible at foreshadowing, leaving subtle hints to build up to a grand reveal that make it feel earned without entirely giving away the game. "Annie is the Female Titan" is only the first of many. I've commented this on an earlier video as well, but narratively, this series is the most rock solid I've ever encountered, and it's exactly because of stuff like this. The show is just so incredibly clever... And it only gets better as it goes on. Or rather, the better it gets, the better it has always been. I'm not going to explain that cryptic last remark. You'll have to see for yourself, though perhaps you can already guess some of the reasons behind it.

"No Regrets" is the OVA you wanna watch, it's basically Levi's backstory and it's a really cool and valuable part of the story! Also I'm obligated to recommend Jojo's Bizarre Adventure openings 1-13! The art and music are unmatched and you will absolutely love it!

In some flashbacks that are shown when they were cadets in the moments in which Armin is seen without Mikasa or Eren, he is almost always seen in the company of Annie, this means that they were quite close and this is one of the factors that influences the because Armin didn't tell on Annie when he found out that she killed Sawney and Bean for a month or because Annie didn't kill him and wanted to leave him alive after killing everyone and only stopped attacking Jean when Armin said that she killed the " Suicide Bastard" (so they call Eren) and only the cadets of Nº104 knew it. In short, the 2 were beginning to have feelings for each other, that's why he couldn't believe it and it took a long time to give her away and she never wanted to hurt him until they had no choice but to face each other.

In this episode Armin explained how he figured it out and the fact he was already suspicious before the 57th expedition. I think it's important to point out that Armin also feels guilty about how the expedition turned out because he didn't tell them about this earlier.

Also you might wanna watch Gigguk on youtube's AOT in 9 mins for sure, its a comedic recap of the show with fan made voice lines and everything. Every reactor watches it kinda like a rite of passage. Well, she did have a few exchanges with them, but I only remember the one with Armin, and hence, even if it seems biased, if she has connections to anyone outside of the obvious, it would be Armin. Eren is definitely just part of some mission, more of a have to get him because he could be important. But for no reason did she /need/ Armin and she certainly didn't need to spare him; in fact, she might have even potentially put herself in danger doing so... I'm not imply anything shippy, but I definitely think something was up there, whether one-sided or mutual. Anyway, Armin's a clever cookie.
20:55 Not sure if you noticed but eren just straight up called her out as the female titan before she even revealed it herself. Because she was spinning one of the survey corps members in mid air by their maneuver gear during that mission they got attacked.
pretty sure he was more so referring to her flipping people over in the hand to hand training then the titan stuff. At least that's how I understood it.
Note: You might have missed this in the chaos of the fight, but during the scene in the last episode where Levi fights the female titan, he winds up changing course abruptly in order to help Mikasa with something, and lands badly on his foot/leg, injuring himself in the process. This is very important to make a note of in order to avoid being confused later on, because it explains his absence during certain parts in the future... But it's an easy moment to miss, what with how intense that whole scene is, and the way he doesn't really make that big of a deal out of the injury at the time.

It's called AoT OVA. OVA's are basically side arcs that are only 1-3 episodes long each. The OVA most ppl recommended is called "No Regrets" Part 1 and 2. It provides some Levi backstory that I think you would severely enjoy. It's one of the best OVA they have. The AoT in 9 minutes is a parody, fan-edit, recap of season 1. It's pretty funny, but not necessary.
Okay here is what every one is talking about. First the in between episode is and OVA or more commonly known a short side story to the main story. That still adds something to the world but not the main story. The one they talk about is "No regrets" That focuses on Livy's upbringing and early life. Then there is the episode in 9 minutes that you must watch it's not just a recap it comedy peak. You will laugh your ass of I guarantee it.
From a viewer POV sure you can guess that the Female Titan might be Annie based on how she looks in titan form, but Armin knew that Annie was the Female Titan because a few episodes ago when Annie was trying to capture Eren, Armin figured it out that the Female Titan must be someone who saw Eren transform for the first time, who was there when Eren first transformed. So, who was there when Eren first transformed and was not on the mission with the Survey Corps? Annie.

if you're watching on crunchyroll, it's "season 6" or the "OAD" series of episodes. That's what i think people are talking about and yes you need to watch those prior to watching season 2. Also, "in 9 minutes" is not just a recap. It's a fast past comedic insane recap version lol. It's worth it. You need to trust your viewers more. Now, "how did they know?" That, if I remember, is answered in the next episode.
The way I see it, by going underground, Annie wouldn't be able to transform because the tunnels were too narrow and sturdy and she'd be squeezed inside. But Eren and Armin wanted to believe in Annie. That maybe she was forced to do all that by someone. When Eren tells her that going into the tunnel would be enough for them, *it's because that would be the same as Annie telling them she wasn't their enemy. It would be like dropping her gun, her weapon.* Instead, Annie stayed outside. She held on to the "gun". In that moment Mikasa gave the verdict: *Annie is the enemy and we have restrain her.*

Or he tried to. It’s pretty clear she figured out what he was doing but went along with it anyway. _Why_ she did is still sort of unclear, but my guess is that she wanted him to see her as a good person for as long as possible (if you pay attention to her actions it does fit). So you could say the “humanity” in her is what lead her to this point, which is interesting for a number of reasons.

@@cinnamonshade6835 yeah I’m sure that’s part of it, but what ultimately convinced her to go with him (or at least what they made it seem like convinced her) was when Armin told her she’d be a bad person in his eyes if she didn’t. I wouldn’t put it past her to find some other way, but she valued Armin’s opinion too much to do so. That’s how I like to interpret this scene anyway.

Armin explained thoroughly how he knew Annie was the female titan. It started with the mystery person who killed the two captured titans. The survey corp inspected everyone's 3D-maneuver gear as part of their investigation, and no one's gear betrayed any clues as to who the killer was. Except for Armin, who saw Annie's 3D-maneuver gear and recognized it and knew that it wasn't hers. It was Marco's, who died at some unknown point during the battle of Trost and whose gear was never found. Armin knew then that she must have stolen it, and she was using it now to hide any evidence that could be gleaned from her own gear to prove that she was the saboteur who killed the two titans. After already having sussed her out as a traitor, even though he didn't want to believe it, it wasn't hard for him to recognize the resemblance between her and the female titan when it showed up, especially since the female titan chose not to kill him when she could have. The female titan didn't hesitate to slaughter anyone else that got in her way, but she let Armin live. Why? Because she knew him personally and didn't want to kill him. When that possibility occurred to him and he remembered Annie's suspicious behavior previously, it wasn't hard for him to make the connection.
Not to mention he kinda confirmed his theory when he said "the suicidal bastard is at the rear" and that's when she started going towards there because they only people who know eren as the suicidal bastard were the people they trained with

Before moving on to the second season, I highly recommend that you watch the OVA about Captain Levi, the name is Shingeki no Kyojin: Kuinaki Sentaku, which was divided into 2 episodes, where we get to know a little more about Levi before he joined the The Survey Corps and how he became what he is now. It also shows The reason why he is so attached to cleanliness.

you scream "NO!" at the endings, never fails to make me laugh
Armin knew that she wanted Eren Captured and not killed, since she kept him in his mouth alive when she was in Titan form. Thus it show Armin's cunning when he told her that the "military police was going to kill and dissect Eren, forcing her to actually go with the plan to help Eren escape. She sniffed the shadiness a mile away and was forced into joining. Rewatching episodes really show how the brilliance of the writing.
If the goal is to capture Eren alive, it would be more logical to watch Armin and company from the shadows than to walk directly into a trap. She breaks the ceiling of the basement where Eren is and does not try to catch him, but immediately runs to the wall. Annie walks into the trap only after Armin says "You will be a bad person to me."

Yeah thats something i missed, in part cause i was watching the dub. Wasn't till much later when watching some sub reactions that i caught that. Much as i enjoy and much prefer the dub for most shows, they have some pretty big errors in hindsight. Its an interesting line in sub that you may start questioning, but in the dub she says "like i told you, i dont have the constitution for it" which yeah that's not a good translation. Guess at the time, they didn't know how important that line was

Everyone says it's obvious that the female titan was Annie but when i first watched this i was surprised as heck. I'm the type who just dont easily believe the resemblance and hints and thought the author was pulling a reserve psychology by making it too obvious and that there's more to it and i was so confused and had no idea until she just fckng transform, so yeah, it happened to me not just in this reveal, this show is crazy

as someone who is rewatching, that line annie said gave me shivers
in the aftermath of the big fight, we saw Annie say I'm sorry over and over again, so I'm at least sure that she did not enjoy killing all these people.

At the end of season 1, there is something at the very end of the episode you need to see. Also, Attack on titan in 9 minutes is a funny skit video summarizing season 1 in a hilarious fashion.
The lagh of Annie when they discoverred the truth was because she felt relief that she doesn't have to hide that anymore, also she was tired and sad because she fight and lost Eren the day before.
Than and armin still saying they could just talk about it. It was irony. Here he was being a true friend despite not knowing her true mission and it was like a smack in the face. Why did she have to befriend someone so kind. And now she has to fulfill her mission and won’t be able to enjoy his friendship anymore. It was a “my god this life I live is sooo fucked up” type of laugh.

26:55 I don't remember if this is explained next episode but, do you remember 1x17 when Jean was about to get crushed by the female titan and Armin shouted something to her that made her stop? Well, he said something like "Avenge the suicidal bastard, I saw him under her feet. My best friend was crushed by this titan" something like that. Well, he said "the suicidal bastard" and "my best friend", only those who were close to Armin, Eren and Mikasa knew who he was talking about, so he put it together and realized it was Annie.
He explained how he knew it was her , because when they were searching the gear after the 2 titans were killled that were captured she had Marco’s gear , & Armin helped him repair his gear
So if you still confused as how the survey corps figured it out, before this Armin was suspicious towards Annie as the traitor who killed the 2 captured Titans which is named Bean & Sawney if you remember.
In this episode Armin talked about Her wearing Marco's equipment for killing those 2 titans, and Armin was familiar with the equipment, it leads to Armin's suspicion towards Annie. And finally it was confirmed by Annie not wanting to go underground, since she needs big space to transforms into Titan.

Important detail that was in one of the mid episode info dumps; the walls are not built with normal building methods. There are no blocks mortared together to form a wall. The entire ring with the exception of the movable gates and accompanying gatehouse forms a single unbroken mass of stone. No tool marks from its construction have ever been found. Being a gift from a God is actually one of the more plausible explanations for how they were created.
I remember giggling back when you called Annie being the female titan right off the bat back on episode 17, and it's funny to compare that with your reaction to the reveal lol
I feel like I'm the only one who didn't have a clue the first time, I thought she would be Krista or Mikasa (somehow) because they were both in the expedition
I had a feeling it was Annie around Episode 19-ish but I didn't want to believe it because it seemed so off and random. I was half expecting it to be some random character we never met before.

Back then, i wasn't expecting this show to be full of twists like it is, so when we were told the female was a human, i did figure they had to be in the Scouts or just the military in general, but i figured they'd go the route of introducing some new character and then have them be the traitor. Never crossed my mind to distrust anyone we had met already, so i wasn't even looking at Annie as a suspect. Also Eren doesn't look like his Titan to me, so back then i never even considered comparing the Titan faces to anyone we met
i kind of knew it first time watching, but only pretty late. because i totally forgot about annie in general. i just knew that that titans face looked EXTREMELY familliar. so i knew it was one of them, but i couldnt remember annie. later on though, it hit my like the most obvious thing.
I did think Krista too at first especially when she showed up with the horses after the female titan ran off. The blonde hair gives us viewers several suspects.

to answer your question, here is how armin figured out that annie was the female titan (without spoilers) + things that hinted it
1. she had marco’s maneuver gear at the gear check. the reason why they even had to do the check in the first place was to figure out who killed the two testing titans. since annie didn’t bring her gear, it meant that she used it that night to kill the two titans, meaning that she was a traitor.
2. during jean, reiner, and armin’s fight with annie as the female titan, at one point, armin yelled out “that’s the one! that’s the one who killed him, avenge that suicidal bastard!!” or something like that. after he said that, the female titan stopped moving. the reason armin said this in the first place was to make the female titan believe that she accidentally killed eren already. but armin never said the name “eren”, he only said his nickname. because the female titan stopped moving all of a sudden, armin was able to limit the identity of the female titan to being someone among the 104th training corps.
3. the similarity in looks. this one isn’t as big as the other two, but the physical resemblance said a lot about the female titan’s identity.
4. the female titan didn’t kill armin. in fact, she spared armin twice. this showed armin that the female titan had to have some sort of prior connection with him since he was spared.
5. something that hinted about armin knowing the female titan’s identity was when him, reiner, and jean were stranded and had to choose two people to go on the horse. armin volunteered to stay back, but he was about to tell jean and reiner to specifically tell erwin something (probably the female titan’s identity) until he got cut off by christa showing up.
6. when annie refused to go underground in this episode, it confirmed that she was indeed the female titan because she can’t transform underground. remember when eren was locked up underground before his trial?
I will add: at the second meeting, when Annie knocks Armin off his horse, Armin turns his head lying on and looks at her and we see a VERY strong surprise. Then the whole "suicide" conversation takes place.
Then in the next episode, we are shown what Armin actually saw: the face of a Female titan in shadow, but not the eyes. They are brightly highlighted and attract attention, which means that Armin's attention was directed to this detail. It wasn't until he recognized Annie's eyes that he deduced FT's identity.
These moments last for a few seconds, but they are significant and even present in the manga.

She didn't wanna go bc she is not able to turn into a titan in there and armin literally told how he found out that she is the female titan step by step. And annie found out that it's a trap when armin asked her but she proceeded with his plan bc she wanted to be a good person for him.
Attack on titan: No Regrets OVA, it's 2 episodes long, and it is about Levi's past. OVAs are like extra episodes for the anime they add some bonus info or context. There are many ovas, but this one is the best, and probably people are interested in this one the most.

It will be revealed later how armin figured it out but basically he had his suspicion since she had Marco’s gear but the key lies in how the female Titan was looking for eren specifically because she knew how eren’s face looks like when only the instructors and those of the same 104th regimen knew his face, it’s not like they had photographs to show how he looks like to everyone and even during the previous arc with the operation where eren sealed the hole in the wall with a boulder he was standing up high on the wall when he was introduced so it’s hard to make out his face and end less to recognize it later but the real evidence is in what he shouted during his encounter with the female Titan and made her believe that someone else was eren using a nickname only known among the trainees and the female Titan reacted to it
AoT is really good at unexpected, yet very sensible twists. It's also incredible at foreshadowing, leaving subtle hints to build up to a grand reveal that make it feel earned without entirely giving away the game. "Annie is the Female Titan" is only the first of many.
I've commented this on an earlier video as well, but narratively, this series is the most rock solid I've ever encountered, and it's exactly because of stuff like this. The show is just so incredibly clever... And it only gets better as it goes on. Or rather, the better it gets, the better it has always been.
I'm not going to explain that cryptic last remark. You'll have to see for yourself, though perhaps you can already guess some of the reasons behind it.

"No Regrets" is the OVA you wanna watch, it's basically Levi's backstory and it's a really cool and valuable part of the story! Also I'm obligated to recommend Jojo's Bizarre Adventure openings 1-13! The art and music are unmatched and you will absolutely love it!

In some flashbacks that are shown when they were cadets in the moments in which Armin is seen without Mikasa or Eren, he is almost always seen in the company of Annie, this means that they were quite close and this is one of the factors that influences the because Armin didn't tell on Annie when he found out that she killed Sawney and Bean for a month or because Annie didn't kill him and wanted to leave him alive after killing everyone and only stopped attacking Jean when Armin said that she killed the " Suicide Bastard" (so they call Eren) and only the cadets of Nº104 knew it. In short, the 2 were beginning to have feelings for each other, that's why he couldn't believe it and it took a long time to give her away and she never wanted to hurt him until they had no choice but to face each other.
About the wall religion: No one knows how such massive walls where built. So who and how built them is very much a mystery and religion-worthy

In this episode Armin explained how he figured it out and the fact he was already suspicious before the 57th expedition. I think it's important to point out that Armin also feels guilty about how the expedition turned out because he didn't tell them about this earlier.

Thing with the military police is it's corrupt through and through, and this little passing the work to rookies was just a way to explain that to viewers.

Well, she did have a few exchanges with them, but I only remember the one with Armin, and hence, even if it seems biased, if she has connections to anyone outside of the obvious, it would be Armin.
Eren is definitely just part of some mission, more of a have to get him because he could be important. But for no reason did she /need/ Armin and she certainly didn't need to spare him; in fact, she might have even potentially put herself in danger doing so... I'm not imply anything shippy, but I definitely think something was up there, whether one-sided or mutual.
Anyway, Armin's a clever cookie.
20:55 Not sure if you noticed but eren just straight up called her out as the female titan before she even revealed it herself. Because she was spinning one of the survey corps members in mid air by their maneuver gear during that mission they got attacked.
pretty sure he was more so referring to her flipping people over in the hand to hand training then the titan stuff. At least that's how I understood it.
Note: You might have missed this in the chaos of the fight, but during the scene in the last episode where Levi fights the female titan, he winds up changing course abruptly in order to help Mikasa with something, and lands badly on his foot/leg, injuring himself in the process.
This is very important to make a note of in order to avoid being confused later on, because it explains his absence during certain parts in the future... But it's an easy moment to miss, what with how intense that whole scene is, and the way he doesn't really make that big of a deal out of the injury at the time.

It's called AoT OVA. OVA's are basically side arcs that are only 1-3 episodes long each. The OVA most ppl recommended is called "No Regrets" Part 1 and 2. It provides some Levi backstory that I think you would severely enjoy. It's one of the best OVA they have.
The AoT in 9 minutes is a parody, fan-edit, recap of season 1. It's pretty funny, but not necessary.

First the in between episode is and OVA or more commonly known a short side story to the main story. That still adds something to the world but not the main story. The one they talk about is "No regrets" That focuses on Livy's upbringing and early life.
Then there is the episode in 9 minutes that you must watch it's not just a recap it comedy peak. You will laugh your ass of I guarantee it.
From a viewer POV sure you can guess that the Female Titan might be Annie based on how she looks in titan form, but Armin knew that Annie was the Female Titan because a few episodes ago when Annie was trying to capture Eren, Armin figured it out that the Female Titan must be someone who saw Eren transform for the first time, who was there when Eren first transformed. So, who was there when Eren first transformed and was not on the mission with the Survey Corps? Annie.
0:25 No, no, you need to watch the FIRST episode of season 2, THEN watch "Isle's Notebook" OVA, and THEN watch the rest of season 2. Otherwise, you get spoiled on a pretty major thing in Season 2 Episode 1.
if you're watching on crunchyroll, it's "season 6" or the "OAD" series of episodes. That's what i think people are talking about and yes you need to watch those prior to watching season 2. Also, "in 9 minutes" is not just a recap. It's a fast past comedic insane recap version lol. It's worth it. You need to trust your viewers more. Now, "how did they know?" That, if I remember, is answered in the next episode.

The way I see it, by going underground, Annie wouldn't be able to transform because the tunnels were too narrow and sturdy and she'd be squeezed inside.
But Eren and Armin wanted to believe in Annie. That maybe she was forced to do all that by someone. When Eren tells her that going into the tunnel would be enough for them, *it's because that would be the same as Annie telling them she wasn't their enemy. It would be like dropping her gun, her weapon.*
Instead, Annie stayed outside. She held on to the "gun". In that moment Mikasa gave the verdict: *Annie is the enemy and we have restrain her.*
