Man i rewatched this show a lot of times after each strange moment to achieve an explanation why the hell it's happening this way but not different. And always, always i achieved the answers, AoT is brilliantly written.
My plan is once we get a bit further in I will do a reaction with my wife to the first episode and then get the show on DVD and start again 💯💯

Though the first time I watched it (and this is not a spoiler, though it may affect your theories, I'm just sharing what I thought back then), I immediately thought "Wait... she removed Armin's hood and looked at him and smiled? IS THAT ARMIN'S MOM?!!!?!!"

They cannot fight on horseback or not directly, out in the field without any large/tall structures to latch onto with their 3D maneuver gear they cannot maneuver around as well and thus require horseback just to travel on the ground since they cannot outrun titans without using their gear or horses
You’re right about the flares, think of it like a warning indicator or a rudimentary sensory device or radar rather then a method of directing and it makes a whole lot more sense
What armin said about the female Titan being a human on the inside is based on speculation, both the armored and colossal Titan display intelligence far beyond any other Titan and with the revelation on eren being able to generate and pilot a Titan body it’s very likely that the armored and colossal Titan is the same thing so when armin sees this female Titan that quickly, calculatedly and with clear motive and a sense of goal, kill the other survey corps members he reason her to be the same kind as eren and the armor and colossal Titan
As for female Titan resembling Annie it’s probably the resting bitch demeanor they both sport and coincidentally having blond hair through shorter on the female then on Annie
People forget Krista has yellow hair as well. So do a lot in their army. Poor annie. Just because she's introverted she gets compared to the female titan.

I mean i don't think a single soldier's absence isn't going to take anything away from the scouts. Also, 9/10 of the top ten joined the scouts! If I were annie, I'd do the same. People who say they won't are simply lying. That's what makes this show so realistic. They chose to do that.

Woow, watching this again I undestand so many things. I tell you, no matter how many times you watch this series every time it has something new you didn't notice before.
There are only the "normal" lethargic or predictable titans and "abnormals" which move around irregularly, and of course eren who is able to turn into a "normal" 15m class. While the foreshadowing in this show goes back to the very first few episodes and you can sometimes pick up on it, if the show wants to give you more information you will absolutely know
"Is [the Female Titan] good or bad?! Wtf is going on?" A perfect summation of the whole show right there. 👍😂

I watched the whole show and as amazing as the story gets as it progresses, this episode continues to be one of my favorite ones.
I fucking love these reactions because normally I would never watch an anime 2 times but because something is added to the experience it becomes as exiting as the first time I saw it, seeing Luke's reaction and theory's while knowing what comes next hit's different for some reason, keep up the good work my man

Can we just acknowledge the brains Erwin got? I mean the kind of equipments they have, still able to devise such a formation really highlights his competence as the commander of Survey Corps. He really has reduced casualty rates compared to his predecessor commanders.

And knowing your taste, i assure you that you'll love Jujutsu Kaisen as the next anime to watch after AoT ^^ It's quite different, more modern in the universe, but characters and the story are amazing, the animation is great too and i know you already like the music of the show and you'll find the logic of the tone of the op and ed watching the anime

Poor annie gets compared to the female titan. It's unusual that one of the main characters don't tag along, but it is realistic that atleast some will not join the scouts as they're literally going outside the walls to die. This show is realistic, you know.
Also, don't underestimate Reiner. The titan catching him and him escaping were shown slowly, but it happened very quickly. Armin says the titan is intelligent so she called his bluff and went for the safest place that eren would be: the place were eren is.

@@xgwomanx and you can't blame her because the scouts are literally going out the walls to die. Erwin himself says only 30% will survive. As someone who saw the horrors of what a titan can do, like any normal person would do, she went for the safest option available to her and didn't waste the opportunity to join the MPs as she was ranked 4th. Just like how Marco died without us seeing, annie seperates herself from the scouts, and shows us how the military police work. Those characters getting excluded was necessary for realism: Marco, because that can happen to anyone in the scouts, and annie, because not all get inspired by eren's courage.

Never forget that any Titan is a tank, look at them like real life tanks:
There are small tankjs, slow tanks, cheap as tanks, expensive tanks etc.
What makes them easy to destroy is know exactly how they work and operate and their weaknesses.
And so far humanity ONLY hangs on because they ARE predictable, a normal titan that is impossible to read is devastating.
A super strong and fast smart unpredictable titan? That is very hard for anyone to deal with.
The danger factor grows exponentially for ANY variable that is added beyond:
"All titans move this way, they all act like this, they react like this, almost all fight like this, and they die like this"
According to what humans know/beleive there arent realy different types of titans. There are the normal stupid ones, those that just go for the first humans they sense, then the abnormals, that still stupid but dont necessary go for the first human they see. And then there are the titans that are intelligent (those with a "human inside" like Armin said it).
Also, Reiner's escape is one of my favourite moments in this episode, when i first watched i totally forgot by this point that he was the 2nd strongest after Mikasa :D it was a cool reminder.
Also never worry, all of your questions will be answered, the show does an exellent job of not having any loose ends.

I never thought it looked like anyone or the way it smiled at Reiner indicates it has a bond with the titan, i just thought the female titan smirked at Reiner was because she said "gotcha". Also when she lifted Armin's hood i was like omooo is that his mom bcs he did say his parents went outside the walls to see the world who knows they turned into a titan HAHAHAHAHA

Whenever I rewatch aot and on my first watch I enjoy this arc in season 1 the best out of all of the season 1 arcs but for some reason in my head I just tend to think of it as worse lol

Armin has already show his cunning intelligence in this episode, coining two questions in one go,
You should check the OVAs after you finish season 1, they're kinda like special episodes. There are 8 OVAs, and after season 1 you can watch the first 5, while the other 3 I think you can watch after season 3.
Here are the names of them to help you find them, with also a brief explanation.
OVA 1: Ilse's Notebook - It's about a Survey Corps soldier who died in an expedition, but managed to take note of her last hours.
OVA 2: A sudden visitor - It's a funny episode with the characters during their time as cadets.
OVA 3: Distress - A good time with the cadets too, it's about a very eventfull mission they had as cadets.
OVA 4 and 5: No Regrets Part 1 and 2 - It's Levi backstory.
How I said, the last 3 have spoilers for now, so I suggest watching after season 3, here are the names:
OVA 6 and 7: Lost Girls, Goodbye wall Sina part 1 and 2.
OVA 8: Lost Girls, lost in the cruel world.

My theorie is that grisha is from another town outside the walls. Where people can become titans/ are titans that would explain why eren could turn into a titan (because he's grisha's son). So I think the end goal is to defeat the titan town outside the wall
One of the best things about watching this show for the first time is the theorizing about every little detail. There is an answer to every question, and it's exciting to see which ones you can guess and which ones you miss!
It makes me so happy that you already love this show.. it only gets better and better every season

Funny thing: there is a hidden clue for viewer only (no character noticed it and will not mention it later) in this episode that leads to a huge reveal in the next season. I cant point at it, cause it will make it obvious, and it is kinda hard to notice it even when watching for a second time. But its awesome attention to details. I will comment on this clue when you get to the relevant point in the show.

This episode escalates so fast and so masterfully from an explanation of the scouting formation to normal titans to abnormal titans to an intelligent titan which kills indiscriminately to, hold on, it's choosing not to kill people that might be Eren? to oh boy it's choosing to not kill people that it definitely knows aren't Eren.
This episode also goes to show, if you feel like you don't quite understand something (the types of titans, for example) then it's probably intentional and the show will make sure you know when you need to.
Attack on Titan has no filler episodes...those dialogue heavy or strategy explaining episodes are very necessary

The different kinds of titans are the normal 5, 10, and 15 meters
And the abnormal titans that act erratically and tend to run around a lot
And then of course the secretive and mysterious abnormals like the colossal and eren’s titan
Okay soo there are a couple kinda titans
Pure titans: just regular titans
Abberants: titans that have specific abilities, like jumping really high, more capable on finding humans or those that get attracted more towards bigger groups, rather than a single person
Finally there are intelligent titans: titans which seem to be able to think, like the armored and the collosal.

There are essentially 3 sets. Regular brainless titans (Slow and easy to read) - Brainless Aberrants (Move erratically and chaotically but stupid) - Then smart titans (People like Eren and other unknowns)
7:20 at this point, soldiers know of Normal titans then the Abnormal or Aberrant Titans which are the weirdos (jumps, run fast, crawls, etc.). And then there's Eren titan.
TLDR; 1. Normal Titan, 2. Abnormal Titan, 3. Eren

7:12 You're thinking about it too much, some titans just have different attributes just to make these titans not seem boring, as if they moved around the same it'll be repetitive, as we see these titans all the time, just think of it like different personalities but the the move faster and crawl ect they are known as abnormal or aberrant (unpredictable). Also the only titans that are really different is the Armoured, Collosal, Female titan and of course Eren which are known to be intelligent.
It is really recommended to rewatch this series, twice or thrice. Clues are everywhere really. 😭
Funfact: your are saying this is the best episode but there is another episode which is highest rated episode after breaking bad in imdb. its imdb is around 9.9 out of 10 (technically 2 episodes). imagine including all live action web series like game of thrones, stranger things, squid game, etc are their in imdb top rated episode but 2 aot episodes in top 3 for all time. i dont want to say which episode or which season u will figured it out very soon. and another fun fact this episode not even comes under top 25 best episode of attack on titan in many websites. Erwin is always 10 steps ahead... His foresighting capacity is way above any other character's.
A single plan can be presented 10 subsequently times... Each time you'll get epicly explained a new layer of complexity that you didn't know there existed... And your only conclusion will always be the same: Erwin is THE FREAKING BOSS!!!!
That's not true.
He was outplayed by Zeke hard and victory at Shinganshina was pyrrhic because they didn't expect an ambush. Scouts only won battle because Burito burnt the guy alive instead of squishing him like bug and moving on. If he killed the guy immediately and went for horses, Eren wouldn't have time to do the trick. If Burito killed horses, battle would be over, scouts would starve without horses to bring them home and knowledge gained in basement would die with them

@@xaimaralexisii9095 He stuck the hook in his teeth. It was impossible to get it out after that. If Colossal just went ahead for horses, battle would be over. Erwin got lucky and even with that luck results were horrible.
Might I recommend reacting to the intro and exit songs for Call of the Night? The songs are absolute bangers.
The shows pretty good too, but it will likely take until season 2 before we get more than the occasional combat scenes
When my friend finished season 1 I asked him who his favourite character was and he said it was reiner because of that baddas moment he had in this episode when he cut female titans hand to escape. Little did he know

I wish I could forget this moment with Reiner and experience it again ahhh
So, for the titans you know about right now, you have regular slow-moving titans that are the lowest class and are generally easy to deal with, especially for experienced fighters even from inside the walls like the glasses grey-haired girl. Then you have the abnormal titans "in the same class" that are weirdly mobile like the one that leaped in the air and ate the first soldier in the Trost arc and the crawling one from this episode that are sometimes a real pain to deal with, but for experienced soldiers, they're still not that bad to deal with. After that you have the Aberrants that just look like they don't have the same tendencies or patterns as any lower-class titans and can ignore people sometimes like in this episode that they're forced to kill since they're actions are so random with little patterns to go off of... I believe these are still pretty much the same difficulty as the Abnormals, though, but they are more of a risk since they don't have patterns that they're used to. Lastly, there are the Armored Titan and the Colossal Titan that the commanders are assuming are like Eren, but no one knows for sure. These seem to have intelligence, which is why they're assuming they must be controlled like Eren's titan is. That's pretty much it! The difference between the abnormals/aberrants are a real grey area, but they pretty much just don't have the same patterns (or any at all) unlike the braindead stereotypical zombie-like titans. No one actually knows why they're different at this point, but I'm not giving hints as to whether they ever figure that out or not! The female titan is still up in the air at this point, so your deductions will be at the same pace as the characters in the show. I hope this helps clear things up!

Now ... Female Titan. If everyone wasn't dying and scared, im sure theyd be "distracted" by this definitive female titan, since titans dont have gender. That's pretty much the biggest give away, even Armin was onto the titan's intelligence and motive. Armin and Jean you'll continue to see make a killer duo! Armin's brain and Jean's intuition for reading situations. Look forward to more of "this is my favorite episode". -

Normal - the ones that just look around run into things and are slow
Abnormal - those fast running and jumping ones for humans
Giant - the one that broke the wall with it's leg
Armored - the other one the broke the inner wall (in the first couple of episodes)
