Geez these are so much more complicated than the consumer sets I usually mess with, must be a headache putting this thing back together LOL.

I use to have a Sony 14L5 in my collection Steve. What a unit is was. I sold it because someone wanted it more than me. It went to a good home for sure. 8^)

I got rid of all my L5 monitors also. Now they are too expensive for me to buy back, lol. They have a good reputation for a reason.
      Thanks Anthony.

    I love this model!
Got mine from the scrapyard here in Brazil, it was supposedly not turning on. Paid R$650 (around U$115) betting I could fix it, turns out it just takes 1 to 2 minutes to start working, and the tube looks brand new! I got the cap kit from savon-pat hoping to solve the issue (since it looks like a cap problem) and to preserve other components from running with the wrong specs.
The only one concern I have today is dirty power from the wall, witch is really common around here. Would love to hear your opinion on the matter!
    Anyway, love your work Steve!

@badreality2 I'm reading about power conditioners and regulators, trying to discover which features are relevant for my use case, and then find one that can also fit into my tight budget xD

Found one at work yesterday, and it's in pretty good condition. Gonna get it recapped at some point, just to be safe.

The prices for those are up there. I ended up getting the sony 20M2U and love it.
Got it from mmcom I believe is the name. they were local here in Chester nj and payed 800. They wanted 1500+ for that l5 too much for me. Anyways they must really take care of their monitors because when I opened mine up I looked brand new, so no cleaning needed.
Now , time to figure out where and how to get that 240p test.
Like always, love your content brother!!

I picked up a 2030 last year that I still need to crack open. Manufactured in 1991, so I imagine it's a but gross in there, lol.
One of these days I'll get some pics / videos together to post in the discord to properly diagnose whatever is going on with the input board (can't get it to stop scrolling on RGB or S-Video. Composite works), but I'm wanting to snag a nice desoldering tool before I dive into that

I am a big newbie! How do I take the case off? And where do I buy the compressed air? What other things did you use to clean it with? Where do I buy those things? Amazon? Feel free to give me links to the exact items and I'll order them! Let me know what mistakes I should try to avoid making when cleaning it. Thanks in advance!

Not getting an image at all after a tube swap. Static is there on the screen, but no source info comes up and screen is blank. I noticed a crack across C board after powering up, but repairs have been done and still nothing. Only really tested R705 so far and its 39ohms and I'm getting spark at the cap when I purposely try to arc it so theres definitely power there. Proper voltage across G2 as well. What should my next test be? Thanks

    Hi,
I have a nice Sony PVM 8045q but on right top corner the color is a bit dim (slight purity issue). The degauss does not clear it. What do you recommend I do? The screen and condition are top notch, not a tired overused monitor. In that top right corner there is a factory calibration magnet on the back of the crt, has there ever been the need to remove or re-orient a factory installed calibration magnet on a pvm? (for example due to different geo-location etc)
    Thank you! Fantastic videos!

Hi I just Got one of this monitor.
I notice the start engine takes a couple of seconds to start after the power on.
It looks Fantastic with 240p but i Notice is like a blurry with 480p.
Is there a way to improve the focus on that resolution?

Steve you mentioned you don’t need to discharge the anode to clean this model. Do the L5’ models self discharge? I have 2 14L5’s in storage that I want to clean at some point but I’m a little worried about opening them up and making sure I don’t touch the wrong thing.
