Hi! I’m brand new to sign painting and very interested in using this enamel paint for a project. I have an MDO plywood board that is unfinished (no prime, no paint). I have it cut and sanded, nothing else so far.
Are there particular products and brands you like to use for the edge sealing, primer, and paint prior to applying the enamels paint? I’m just hoping you might point me in the right direction before I start buying those materials.

I usually prime with oil based Killz. I seal the edges with a printable exterior caulk.

I love this video, I've also painted a pointing hand for a tattoo shop. If I remember right I used 3 colors. But I like this better, 2 color is very clean and simple, saves time. Now I want to paint another one for myself. I have some questions, about the MDO prep, what did you seal the edges with, and what did you use for primer? Great content keep talking, some of us are here to learn something, not just watch the paint flow. Great video.

Usually with the MDO, after cutting out the shape and then sanding, I seal the edges with a painter's caulk. I do not remember which caulking I used on this. After caulking (and smoothing with a sponge) I used a tinted oil based Kilz. Sometimes I use Zinzer. I usually prime, sand, prime, and sand again. I believe my basecoat on this was an exterior oil base from Sherwin Williams or from Home Depot. I do not remember which.

@Mr.Monster1313 thanks. Depending on temp and humidity I may add a flow enhancer from whatever brand paint I am using, or sometimes penetrol.

I honestly don't use much of it right now, but when I do, I use their reducers.

It was a pleasure to recreate a design from an aging sign in our town's historic district.

This is so cool! I want to get into making these eventually! I have no experience with enamel paint though or alkyd based paint, how do you usually dry this and how long does it take for it to dry? Do you need to seal it? Thanks for sharing this!!!

Thank you. I seal the wood before the top coats of paint, working a waterproof caulk into the edges, then prime. The top basecoat is an exterior oil based paint, coated on the back as well. I just let them dry as suggested on the paint can.

Airbrushing would be great, new subscriber here

Honestly, I have very little airbrush experience. I have only started messing around with airbrush in the past year, and then, pretty much only to shadow edges on things. I am on the fence about devoting too much time to it.
