She was the bands backup singer for 26 years. If you ever come across the movie 20 ft from stardom about backup singers Lisa and Mary Clayton who sings on the original recording of Gimme Shelter. Very fascinating movie.
There is nothing wrong with this version. It's a great song played very well. But, I think the time with Mick Taylor on lead guitar made this song growl. Totally different. There was power in it and sounded so raw. Love your reaction!
There are lots of great versions of Gimme Shelter (and also Midnight Rambler) - two of their best songs live. When I became a Stones fan in 1964, I didn't know it'd be a lifetime commitment. Always great to see a reactor who's really into the music. My personal favorite Gimme Shelter is 1995 Amsterdam (the one with Lisa in a black outfit - there is also another 1995 Amsterdam show with Lisa in brown). Keep up the good work Shawn!
80 years old and STILL rockin' the house! They play here in Chicago in June 2024. The cheapest tickets are over $300 ~ the highest over $2,000! I won't be going ~ lol ~ but I'm sure it'll be worth every penny!
Ronnie's been on guitar with the Stones since the mid 70's. He would have been with them in '69 but had just agreed to join the Small Faces along with Rod Stewart. That's when they became Faces.
Was hoping for the iconic studio version with the legendary Merry Clayton. In bed at midnight, pregnant, curlers in her hair. In L.A. Phone call to come to the studio and help with backing vocals on the Gimme Shelter recording session. Gets out of bed, drives to the studio and provides one of the most famous performances in rock n roll history. Her cracked vocal and Mick's approving response became legendary. The live versions have never come close to the feeling, drive, passion, and energy of the original recording.
I saw Steel Wheels tour too - Wembley Stadium. I went to same school as Mick Jagger, left late 80s. We took along a school tie and he spotted us, pointed and - shouted out 'Dartford Grammar!'. My proudest moment!
Love The Stones, one of the best ever. The band has a new album. The of the singles is Sweet Sounds Of Heaven with Lady Gaga on vocals and Stevie Wonder on keyboard and piano, killer stuff Shawn, cheers.
Ronnie Wood has been with the Stones since Mick Taylor. Played in Faces with Rod Stewart, vesatile x talented. A force. That's him. Keith is the riff master that's him. That's the Stones.
Love your reactions, Shawn. Didn' know you were a swabbee... thanx Brother, for your service! Nothin' like a 'LIVE' Stones performance (if you are there) but I prefer my Stones Stuff to be the original studio recordings. The 'Let It Bleed' album is my choice.
Deffo listen to the original recording man , Heck it should probs have it's own reaction , The female vocal in that , Her vocal fry and squeals and squeaks will make your hairs stand on end. ! .... The girl in this video is an incredible singer but it's missing the voice braking from the original. :)
Hey brother, I wonder if you'd like to check out some more songs by John Prine. He's an excellent storyteller and one of the best folk-rock singers of this era. (IMHO) If so, then give this one a listen "John Prine And Iris Dement - In Spite Of Ourselves (Live From Sessions at West 54th)" Here's a link 👉 ua-cam.com/video/P8tTwXv4glY/v-deo.html It was fun rocking with you, bro.

I saw them do this with Lisa. The guy singing with her is Bernard Fowler.

Thanks, Peach 🙏 I will definitely back-track to hit the studio version at some point 😄
That was awesome! Put a big smile on my face!!!
Just incredible.
Saw them in concert for 'Steel Wheels' and that was a great show.
So glad you enjoy the Stones as well as the rest of us.

Didn't know you were in the Navy. Thank you for your service.

It’s called weaving, how Keith and Ronnie play
Better title: Lisa Fischer featuring The Rolling Stones (note spelling). Peace, love and bellbottoms.
Ronnie Wood has been with the Stones since Mick Taylor. Played in Faces with Rod Stewart, vesatile x talented.

That's the Stones.
When you have it you never never loose it, and these guys (and gal) have it in truck loads.
One of the best live performances was 1972 - Philly!! Taylor smokes!!!

I love this song, but it doesn't come close to showing Lisa Fisher's vocal abilities. Check out her song
"How Can I Ease The Pain" live.
Just for the record, Keith Richards is the only guitarist on the original recording.
Check out the version on Get Yer Ya Ya's out .
Best version by a moonlight mile .

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Audio jack hole!
They don't make them like that any more.
Grank Funk version just as good

Good as this version is, the studio version is THE version of this song. Just sayin'.
