Thanks Captain. I hope your finding the fish this time in the keys. Looking forward to see some awesome video's. I wish I was still down there. I love the keys.
Brings back memories when I used to live in Boca and went out one day in my 20' boat with 4-6' seas. I landed a 20# and 30# by myself. Mounted my 30# as my first huge mahi. I live in NC now and 3 years ago, we had one estimated to be 70#'s at the boat. Like your case, gaff missed first shot. When he came back in a huge circle, the 80# mono broke less than 2' from gaff range on second attempt! Still bummed today on that one. Several others were caught in the same area in the following 2 weeks that were 68#, 72# and a couple others that they did not weigh in and the pics showed they were huge as well. Missed the fish of a lifetime, but what are fishermans stories if we can't tell them.... Catch 'em up!
Wow. Never had the opportunity on that many large mahi. Like you, we lost one big one in the keys one year that should of been in the 50lb. Range. Still see that in my mind like it was yesterday. Tight lines....
I was fishing haulover canal maybe 15 years ago and I somehow managed to pull a 100 lb black drum to the surface... I thought it was a manatee at first by the size of the tail. It broke off on the anchor line and to be honest at the time I was relieved because I didn't want to bring it into the boat.
About 16 miles out. It's a bit of a ride but the gulf coast is long rides too so you probably wouldn't mind the ride. From that point it drops off pretty quick the further out you go. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it.
Thanks for watching my channel. I hope you enjoy some of the other videos I have out my channel is growing and hopefully I'll be back out on the water putting out some new content...
@@USACustomGarage hi there. Thanks for watching this video and leaving your comments. At the time we caught these mahi we were out approximately 16 miles due east from port canaveral inlet.
Hey John. The trip back was good. No gas problems anywhere we went. One station only had 87 and that's what I use anyway in the truck. Funny thing since I got back I'm catching more fish here then I did down there. Should be the reverse. Thanks for your time watching the video. And love the comments. Tight lines.....
That particular trolling with a skirted bait usually is on the surface or just below maybe 6 to 8 inches. If you want to get it down to a deeper water column you would need to use a down rigger or a plainer. I usually for mahi just cruse the surface while trolling.
Nice Catch Guys, but stop making it look so difficult. Leave the drama at the dock and By the Way, Once on deck, Always open the bail, release the drag. You'll find out it's easier to control the fish with the line and not the rod and reel. Tight Lines.....
Were we are only have to go 3.5 miles for 200ft we would run out 20miles 1000ft++ and catch 30- 35lb bull Dolphins all day long... After 10 or 12 more fish we were catch and release? Any thing floating like a palm tree or wood pallet would always have a huge Wahoo on it..
Nice bill mahi Jonathan!! What a rush! Shake & bake boyzzzzz!
That mahi was a stud !!!! Lots of sammiches coming off that one!!!
Yes in deed.
We had half one night and the other the next night. I made blackened dolphin for sandwiches and home made potato salad. Went down good
Awesome 👌!!!! Man that looks like a load of fun!!!!

I want some, that was a great catch!
Well if I catch any more I will save you some. Everyone here love fish and it was gone in two days....
Great fishing. In the Cocoa / Canaveral area how many miles offshore is 250'? I fish the Gulf side so not familiar with east coast.

How many miles offshore did you go for that depth of water in that size boat? Awesome day you guys had much respect!
At 200ft. We were only about 16 miles out.

how was your trip home from the keys?

how do you keep the bait that deep while trolling or how do you know how deep your bait is?

Share man I’ve never had mahi-mahi
Man I'm sorry but that didn't last long. It was all gone in two days. My family loves fish.

well its apparent video editing is not someone's strong suit... SMH
Sorry to hear that... better luck next time.

Dolphin Fishing is only a shell of what it used to be 25 years ago 😥😥
Thats one expensive fish because my guess it is at least 30 miles each way??
Was only 16 miles off shore. Fuel cost was about $50. To $60 dollars.
