    Thank you for the comprehensive instructions on how to carry out this changeover. I purchased my wheel (same as yours) for our '09 S80 and fitted it two nights ago - it's a great upgrade!
    I have the matching sports leather shifter in soft beige coming (ordered it tonight!).
    Keep up the great work - love the videos :-)

    Armed with this video I changed my 2003 XC-90 T6s' airbag in less than 5 min. I was able to use the remote to lock and unlock the XC-90 after putting the neg battery terminal back and only had to reset the clock. Thank you very much!

    Excellent video as always! That R-design steering wheel looks really nice!
    I know for sure that the Sport steering wheel in the XC70 Classic features metal in the bottom.
    Imo, these steering wheels looks a lot better than the ones in the new XC90, S90, V90 and XC60!

    You saved me a big bunch of time. I upgraded the wheel and the shifter knob in about 1-½ hours. I did not remove the steering column cowling, nor did I disconnect the Cruise and Audio control button connectors. To reinstall them I put a little Petroleum Jelly on the 6 holes and on the knobs. This is a nice upgrade as I felt the OE was too smooth in my grip.

    I used your video to swap out the steering wheel on my 2013 XC60...like you, I found it difficult to locate the spring release...once I finally got it off, the rest was a breeze...
    Unlike you, the horn on the XC60 is mounted to the airbag so you only have to disconnect the green connector & theres an additional orange connector that needs to be disconnected...
    I was unable to take out the small screw that folds the sensor in place so i taped it in position without problem...thank you for your informative videos, I’ve learned alot about my Volvo because of you 🤘🏽

    I always enjoy watching your videos and I admire your commitment even though I no longer have my Volvo XC70. I got a new XC60 towards the end of last year and funnily enough I appear to have virtually the same steering wheel as your new one except for the R-Design badge at the bottom as my XC60 is an SE Lux. I love Volvo cars and driving my XC60 feels very similar to driving my previous XC70 which is really nice! I particularly like the torque that the D5 engine produces and how effortless motorway driving is.

    Excelent video. Helped me swap the leather SW with the mahony model to match the mahony inserts.
    The black cover on the back of your SW is meant to be removed in order to mount the standard black navigation joystick switch,with buttons. Unfortunately on my Mahon SW its revision is 2 years older than my car, not compatible, so I needed to cancel it and swap the switches with the ones from the original steering wheel. Also for the 2012 model the airbag comes with a mounted horn assembly, so they come out all together.

    Brilliant, got mine on a few weeks ago. First one I've seen in the cream beige colour. I agree that it makes you feel like you've a different car in your hand as the grip is so secure and comfortable. It's worth it, even if the steering wheel is overpriced! Also, yes the R-Design metallic emblem is metal. I also added the matching sports gear knob which feels superb in tandem with the wheel! Enjoy Uri!!

    • @volvosweden
      @volvosweden  7 років тому

      +Glenn McKee Hey Glen. What kind of knob did you install? The dotted leather or the metal one.

    • @lenniebruce
      @lenniebruce 7 років тому +1

      The dotted leather. It's very comfy, a little larger and overall better feel. What I would like now is the same chronograph cluster you have. For my Volvo S80 SE Lux, it wasn't standard until the 2010 model> I don't care for the LCD one they added in 2013 like the V40, it didn't look as classy IMHO, and a little cheap for a XC70 or S80.

    Hi volvosweden. Question. I have your old steering wheel on my car. I’m looking to upgrade to the newer 2015 steering wheel the 3 spoke which has a different airbag shape. I have a question: you get out the clips while the battery is connected (to stay unlock the steering wheel I guess), and then you disconnect the battery for unplugging the airbag's connections. Is there any risk of airbag to active while you are getting out the clips?

    The silver R design trim is plastic with a thin aluminium film over the plastic moulding.

    When you first disconect airbag spring and you turn steering wheel to the left and right, do you just start ignition and turn or you start engine and then turn?

    • @akuckass
      @akuckass 5 років тому

      and in russian language video I saw someone said that when everything is done, the key has to be inserted in to the car and turned ignition on and just then connect battery. But how can be ignition on when the battery is still off?

    • @volvosweden
      @volvosweden  5 років тому

      You just turn the wheel. It's hard but possible.

      volvosweden That would be about £75 GBP, just realised after watching your video again that your new one has a cutout for RTI (black panel) and the old one does not, or is there some marked out area to cut away, mine has RTI controls you see.

    • @volvosweden
      @volvosweden  6 років тому

      Not sure about marks to cut for RTI. Don't think it's a good idea to diy this.

      +computec1993 Yes. It also works with DSTC which corrects the car in the event of loss control or a skid.

    9:52 So Volvo thinks to design their cars with a spare screw just to keep the steering-wheel from turning when you remove the center-retaining nut? Wow! That's good design. Mercedes just says to remove the retaining nut and to them 'mark' (actually draw a mark) from the steering-wheel to the mounting-spindle BEFORE PULLING THE WHEEL OFF. Then when re-mounting the wheel align the marks. But Volvo really put some thought into this. In fact the entire construction of the steering wheel is more complex and I can tell the Volvo was much more expensive to manufacture than my Mercedes. I'm impressed. I have a designo Porcelain interior in my Mercedes SLK. I'll NEVER own a car with a black interior again! I love the light beige interior in your Volvo.

    It's very easy to check if the part at the bottom of the steeringwheel is metal: user a magnet.
