- Alright guys, pretty much everyone has told me to go and check out the famous Gadong Night Market for unforgettable food and that is exactly what we did. We tried a number of foods and drinks and let´s see what we thought about it. Of course, you could try so many foods there but the capacity of our stomachs are limited.... but you will see. Please follow me on this food tour in Brunei´s capitol Bandar Seri Begawan where we try some of the local foods.

As a Muslim lady in Malaysia, I can say that sometimes we (and highly like Bruneians and Indonesians) don the hijab on children for fashion. Sometimes the garment itself comes with a hijab, just like some kids' clothing comes with a hat. Some kids want to wear the hijab because they see their mothers wearing it and they want to look like their mother. If the child is still very young, I definitely think it's more for fashion. If the child is older, around 7+, it's highly likely it's to train the child. I can see how you can think it's strange, even maybe fanatical to wear a hijab on a baby but I highly doubt any Muslim forces their babies to wear the hijab.
I see, that kind of makes sense
The phrase ‘to train the child’ seems contradictory.
@@yvesthesleeve As a bruneian, I can attest to that. Some parents, would don their daughters with hijab simply for fashion. Though some of the more conservative family, would actually train their daughter to wear it. I come from a family with 3 siblings, myself and a brother and a sister. I'm the eldest. I never ask my sister to wear hijab, but my brother would occasionally told my sister to do so. But my sister in the end decides herself whether to wear it or not. So in the end, it depends towards personal preferences or maybe the family.
ABC ,Air,Batu Campur.Mixed ice Water.
@@SilverfoxJB You could see it that way but Muslim girls do have to wear the hijab once they get their menses (around 11-13). But not every Muslim does this. However, it's highly encouraged.
The hijab in Islam is obligatory for adult women and not for children, but some parents want their children to get used to the hijab in their childhood so that it becomes normal when they grow older... Like fasting where our parents encouraged us to fast one or two days in the month of Ramadan when we were kids so that we get used to it in the future😉
I see
Not all Muslim women wear the Hijab. It is a choice. Maybe some women are forced to wear it but it is not an obligation. My GP is a Muslim and she does not wear a Hijab except while praying or at the Mosque.
@@maryrosed8475that is not true, wearing Hijab is an obligation. Don't speak of something you are unsure of.
@@TeleeFONE I am very sure. My GP does not wear one. She is Muslim nor do her daughter's. I went to school with a few Muslims. Some wore it at 13 yrs others did not. It is only with the Islamic revolution that hijab wearing in the West became popular. No God is going to make a woman wear a piece of cloth. It is a personal choice. If you want to wear it fine but you should not be made feel guilty if you chose not to wear it. Live a good life is the most important thing. Treat all humans with respect.
@@maryrosed8475 you are not very sure and completely wrong. In Quran, womens who have reached puberty are compulsory to wear the hijab. The reason why people you know don't wear hijab is coz they choose not to.
Oh gosh, such a wonderful night market which operate in a building. It looks very clean and well organised. A big shout-out to Brunei 👍👏
Really liked that too
Hope you enjoy your stay in brunei.the night market is fabulous almost the same ss most malaysian night market.have a nice day.enjoy it.amigos
Thanks mate
Hijab is obligatory for adult women, not for babies and children. Indeed, there are also Muslim parents who wear hijab to small children. It's true what you said, let the children be their childhood.
Thanks for this
Hijab is not an obligation for women. It is not in the Qur'an. I am told by my Muslin GP. It is a choice. Of course depends on what country you live in. Choice is the key.
How is the overall vibe in Brunei? Do you feel Sharia law is putting a damper on everything?
I feel good vibes actually
It's on for muslim
I understand your concern, I think for parents who are introducing head scarf to tiny children/ toddlers it's usually not a compulsory thing, they are just doing it for a while maybe after some time, they'll take it off the baby. We know children share the same reaction all around the world, if it's not comfortable for them, when they don't like something, they'll throw a tantrum and cry. So if the baby is seen smiley and comfortable, it's probably is comfortable for them. Maybe the material is breathable and airy, although look a bit bulky for us. But good question, cheers to you and family 🎉
thanks a bunch
All I know the baby toddler looks cute. Come on guys is fine with or without. Modern days no political or religion talk on food vlogger 😂 😂 😂. I'm here for food please 😂 😂 😂
Wow, such a wide variety of foods is available at that night market 👍 Wonderful to see everyone enjoys the food/meal. Even Dylan is enjoying his plain white rice. Sir, you are indeed a pro using chopsticks...can pick up the rice so easily. A great idea to carry a pair of chopsticks in your bag 😃👏 Yummy drinks...guess the pinky drink is "air bandung" and the 2nd drink has "cincau"(grass jelly) and "cendol" (green stuff) with palm sugar. Anyway, thank you very much for posting this nice video.
Carry your own chop sticks comes good indeed
Except for one or two items (nasi katok for example), the foods in this Brunei night market are quite similar to the types found in any Malaysian night market - and in plastic wrappings too..😔
But I like the roofed enclosure of the night market - no worry of rain.
Yes you are right
ABC stands for Air Batu Kacang
Thanks
Ais batu campur
Lucky u u get your family with u to travel the world n enjoying the local cuisine. Stay safe always.😂
Thanks a bunch
Huge night market. Cheap and delicious food. BND1 for a fried noodle nasi ikan masin. Traveling with kids is an adventure. Wishing you guys stay healthy and strong and look forward to your Sabah's video
Thanks a bunch
brunei expensive food. this is fact .better u go to malaysia or indonesia for cheap food.
Well, actually the food, especially street food, was the cheapest thing about Brunei I think. Well, restaurants are of course not so cheap.
fyp Brunei Darussalam
Surprisingly, you have good pronounciation of the malay words 😂
Well, I am glad
hijab from early age is practising. for a baby, its the cuteness we seek as a muslimah. not predator actually..hehe
anyway, thanks for coming to Brunei and feel the vibe of the peace country..see you till we meet again (glad having a conversation last time at The Mall)
Ah hey yes I remember
@@yvesthesleeve yea at the Game Arcade. how are you anyway? will keep seeing your video anyway..
2021 census showed there are 333k citizens, 26k permanent residents and some 81k foreigners (probably reaches 100k by now post COVID)
Wow, the internet is strange, I read it has 200 000 foreigners.... but obviously not true
the literal translation of ABC is mix rock ice, A is ais, B is batu and C is campur,
Ah okay thanks
Air Batu Campur
air batu = ais = ice
wow!
Lol ais batu is not rock ice, ais batu means ice cube haha, so it actually means mixed ice cubes.
@@TeleeFONE that is why I write literal translation
Baby eats rice with gusto!!!!😂😂
Absolutely
Well just knowing my grandkids. They were always pulling off sun hats etc. Preferred to be free.
Yes or facemasks is a similar example but not sure
crazy food tour... the noodles looked good!😋

Thank you for visiting Brunei! I’ve been watching you since last year and im currently residing in Brunei . Can’t believe you made it here at last! And it felt like im growing up with your kids because they are all so big now considering years ago they were still so small especially the baby! Have a good time always and much support for you and ur family. Take care and be safe
Thanks so much, mate
6:28 Nasi goreng corned beef is enjoyed in Sarawak too. I think Pinggai Cafe (Kuching) sells it. There’s one restaurant in KL that sells it too. I’ve known it to be eaten since my childhood back in the 80s (my mum used to make them).
8:22 Yeah. I’ve also started the habit of carrying utensils in my bag now. 😆 Sometimes collapsible containers too.
12:25 Olive’s fall reminds me of myself her age. 🤣🫢 Had a few of that myself. 😂
thanks for this
@@yvesthesleeve, funny how you seems to be surprised at the sight of Caucasians. 😂 My guess is that they're there in the oil & gas industry.
child can't decide to wear cloth doesn't mean they should not wear cloth. that's not a religious thing to make baby wear head scarf, its for cuteness overload 😄. and it's not uncomfortable to the baby. Lots of muslim mom make their child wear one, gradually to educate them. but to baby its simply just for fun
I am not sure as a child should maybe not face this at this age.... But I just observe
@@yvesthesleeve same goes to you, many people wonder why you drag your child along on your travels, and not let them be in a normal education system.. But its your child, you decide, and they ok with it 😊when our kids come to age, they'll decide. To travel or to wear hijab😘
@@qinghillstudio😂😂😂
@@qinghillstudio normal education is overrated 😂 😂 😂. Moonshine and he's family are wealthy that's why they stick together. Best life in the world. Chucking kids at school is a no no. Could lead to rape and killing. Or stupid taatoo or pearcing or bro this bro thst omg. The language yuck. Stop being jealous you. Bye now. Moonshine kid having best time in their life
Thank you for this video. Wonderful.
Very welcome

Oh wow, what a cool night market
It is indeed
Very big market. Only 1 dollars..

very good coverage from your perspective from a mat salleh as they call you there. I like how you can try everything. rice cake deep fried in oil. the worm like thing in ABC are made with rice flour. The caucasian people may be expat who work with Brunei Shell working in Seria town near Miri, or British arm forces and the gurkha guards army personnel station in Brunei seri begawan.
Very possible yes
Here in Brunei we don't call them Mat Salleh as we have no historical connection to this Malaysian figure. We justc= call them Orang Putih (White ppl)
Omg I want everything 😊❤ I'm glad you try everything. Ikan main most western avoid them like durian. 😔 I'm glad you try them. The noodle you had basicly it's not egg noodle they using spaghetti which was Italian haha bless him them Brunei. Healthier I'm suppose. I'm glad they using healthier than version.
Yes fat oil or fatty food process food, salt sugar can make you cranky, moddiness all sorts weak body just not healty. I cut my Chinese take away twice a match haha. I'm eating more vegetable more and less meat now hehe. So yeah you right.
Brunei it's abit like Singaporen. You see not just 3 race at least 10 different races haha.
My favourite what you bought literally everything haha.
I'm going to skip religion talk haha
Now when comes to sweet food yum yum they all look good omg. It's made of yum I think purple colour 😊...
😂😂😂😂😂
@@yvesthesleeve 😂 you last bit about your drink I'm glad you try them too. Yes palm sugar I start having brown sugar instads of cheap granular sugar nor cheap salt. I switch everything to good healty everythings healty haha. I still love naughty food but control my to have twice a month haha. Anyway the Abc or cendol they common in most Asia. Good to see some night life too.
It should be exciting to try all those new dishes when you don't know anything about them.
True that
When I go these food markets, no 1 thing I look for is fried chicken butts, they are very tasty and full of collagen 😂.
Ok
Oh no chicken butt's haha. Today I just have kfc and I switch chicken butt's with my partner. I said no thanks 😂
