@@KaaarlottaI’ve only had rams live more than a year if they are bred in my tanks at home. Store bought rams might last 8 months. I haven’t kept them in a while but what I do is buy 5 and hope they breed before they pass.
Love your videos and the information, one thing I picked up from another Ram breeder is that most mature rams will want to spawn about 14 days after the wrigglers turn into free swimming fry an if you don’t pull the fry after those 14 days the parents will most likely eat the fry so that they can safely spawn again. I’ve only had the luck of breeding Bolivian rams regularly so far but have a pair of German blues that have ate their eggs 2 times so far but are still pretty young. Again I love all the information you give I’m hoping to build my own fish room in the near future

To increase the chance of good eggs add a few preboiled catappa (Indian Almond Leaves) into the tank to add beneficial tanins, which help prevent fungus, and have anti parasite, anti septic, antibad bacterial, and anti viral properties for both fish and eggs. They also give surface area for infusoria to grow which is an ideal first food for all fry. The leaves also help buffer both the pH, and the GH/KH into the parameters you want, slightly acidic, and low in TDS.
Excellent information! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this process. I have rams, that have not spawned, and your video told me immediately what I may have been doing wrong. I need to up my temperature! 😊
I used to breed bristlenose plecos, gbrs, and platies in the same 20 gallon high on gravel. Guppy grass, frogbit and Java moss made it possible. Kept the temp at 83°F.
great video ,just pick up 6 black rams from my local fish store here in newfoundland canada ,hope to have luck breeding them . Thanks for the great video
Hi guys, my electric blue rams spawned for the second time. Last time was a disaster due to a heater failure. I now have about 200 wrigglers in a separate tank. When and what should I feed them?
Maybe play around more with youre lights. Use a automated dimmer so you can create more natural sunlight. Let the light go out in a time of one or two hours. To extent the time it became completley dark. Maybe they take more time in laying egggs, because the light is dimmer, They use this for breeding birds.
I've been trying to get my rams to breed for about 6 months now. While I have had them successfully pair, and lay, they continue to eat the eggs. Other than removing the eggs to hatch out myself, what can I do to promote the parents to keep the babies?
Quick question, when you stick the fry in separate containers do you put heaters in them to keep the water warm? Sorry if you mentioned that and i missed it :)
What's your preferred method to move such tiny fry from your initial hatching container into your fry system and then from your fry system into a larger grow out tank, especially if they're so fragile?
In India the RAM fish. Cost around one pair for 200 because of that can I get two pairs means four fishes it is okay because I don't have that much money to buy for 6 or 8 is okay😊😊
How do you age estimate Bolivian Rams? I bought mine when they were about an inch long. Now they are 2+ inches and no pairs yet. There are 6 of them unsexed in a 36 gallon.
Hi, I don't want to feed them BBS cause its not available around me specially in this lockdown. Can I feed the fry micro pellets ? Worked with RED JEWEL CICHLID fries and BETTA. What say you SIRE. 😀

Need a little help, I bought two gold rams about 2 months ago, with no intention of trying to breed them, they were intended as center pieces in my 20 long. Welp, I woke up this morning to a pile of eggs on a crypt leaf. Will females only lay eggs in the presence of a male? Or will they lay eggs regardless? One is ferociously defending the area, only allowing the other ram to get close to the eggs. This was honestly the last thing I expected to see this morning when I turned the lights on, and I'm at a complete loss of what to do, or if the eggs are even viable. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.
my electric ram is bearing eggs today for the first time I think I have an important question: Is it mandatory for the fry to be kept in a _separate_ aquarium? Is it a problem if I raise them in the general aquarium? Thanks!
Not sure if you ever got an answer for this. I use one single fry tray in the top on my main tank because I only have one tank. I have successfully raised rainbow fry, beta fry, and currently have pygmy corydoras fry.
Hi love all your videos, thankyou. Please can you help me, I have 2 questions 1. I have a large tank with rams, a gourami, cories and a Siamese algae eater. The Siamese algae eater gets super bullish only at feed time, otherwise he hides is this behaviour ok with my rams? Also I live on the Sunshine Coast and the tap waters sitting at around 7.6 ish I e put Indian almond leaves in and it’s helped a bit but I can’t even get it down to 7! What can I do? I would like to try and breed the rams. Thank for any advice.😊
My male has blue spangling and super light black spots, but has a very squared off dorsal that extends back towards the tail fin and long ventral fins /: I was so sure he was a female, until the gold ram he’s paired off with started laying eggs and he came behind her to fertilize.. 😂
So glad I came across your video, just in time!! I read Chichilids like a pH of 8.2-8.4 and my tank was at 7.0, so I have been bringing it up (now at 8.0). Have the temp 74 and they have laid eggs twice, however they end up eating them. I worried the tank is too busy for them to keep the eggs with them (2 corys, 1 bristlenose pleco, 3 black skirt tetras with my mating pair). First batch was small, second batch was decent and I see today they are doing the chasing and rock cleaning routine. So I learned from your video to pull the eggs and establish in breeding tank and you use tap water. I am on a well with high iron in the water…is that going to be safe vs the conditioned aquarium water? Any other pointers you suggest? Thank you 🙏🏻
I've got German Rams that I've only been keeping for a week, and they've spawned and I've got free swimmers. I'm in my first 48 hours and I'm terrified of losing any so I've been consistently feeding the parents baby brine shrimp and giving egg yolk to the fry. Am I doing the right thing?
