I recently acquired a German Blue Ram pair and wanted to create their own tank for just them. A then added some dither fish to make them feel more comfortable. What I will do is remove the babies when they become free swimming and grow them separately in a grow out tank. This will stop them being eaten by the dither fish or the parents. Can't wait for that!! 😊

Just make sure to get the dither fish out once they start breeding, or else the rams will end up killing them.

Rams can make really great parents if you give them the chance to learn. Personally I would remove the dithers and just keep the pair alone and give them the time to adapt to parenting. My Dark Knight ram pair look after the fry for about 2 weeks, then once I remove them they are already looking to spawn again.

Oh my goodness! This is exactly the tank I want! My favorite fish I have ever kept were German Blue Rams. I once bought a male/female pair and, although it's been decades since I did that I seem to remember that they spawned within two weeks of putting them in the tank. They are so much fun to watch, so much character. This video REALLY has me seriously considering getting back into the hobby. This would be a very affordable set up and would make me so, so happy. Damn it, Jim! You're pulling me back into the hobby!

@@brunopatario I'm sorry Bruno. When I had those fish, it was a very long time ago, probably close to 15 years. I have no idea what the parameters were. Excellent aquarium decoration. Best aquascaping. The light depends on its strength and spectrum, how the underwater world will look in our house. Cold light is more suited to dark backgrounds, yellow light to light. It is also necessary to pay attention to the driver (transformer) of the light source, you need to choose a high-quality one in which there is no pulsation of light (pulse width modulation) or pulse width modulation of high values. Low pulsation of light has a bad effect on humans, and even more so for underwater inhabitants. Happy Carbon Dioxide Start!

Hi MD, again a beautiful video and a beautiful tank. I love your way keeping stuff simple. But I'm a bit concerned about the size of the tank for German Blue Rams. I know you keep your eyes on the fish and they will be doing well. But I think in a bigger tank they can do even better. I'm keeping GBRs for quite a while now. They do open breeding chosing a flat stone or a big leave to lay their eggs on and I'm afraid the rasboras will be very pleased to get extra food. 😳

The scape looks amazing but for breeding purposes put a small flat smooth Stone wherever you want them to breed and that's where they will lay their eggs every time

Do you really think it is good to use these bags with metal hinges? Would they not oxidize and thus have detrimental impacts?

I have 2 electric blue rams, 2 gold rams, and 2 bolivian rams in various tanks. Some of my favorite fish. Great scape as always.

I just got some harlequin rasbora, which, of course look a lot like the lambchops. Some of my favorite dithers.

love the setup, but with those barbs you're not gonna get any fry to survive tbh. personaly had the most succes breeding rams, with pencil fish as dithers.
