John, as a kid I just fished a farm creek that flowed into a river. My gear was whatever I could put together and it was so much fun putting meat on the table. Although I’m a little old man now and got away from it, that early experience seems to be exactly what your channel is all about. I love the notion of just getting out there and having fun catching fish. Thank you and God bless.
Thanks to you I use braid with floro on all my light and ultralight rigs. It makes a world of difference ! Do your own thing man, there are a lot of us out here who are inspired by you to fish in ways we never have before and are having a blast !!
Im a new subscriber from SW MO. I ran across your channel by accident. I was down your way this past July and fished in a little creek just outside Red Clay State park. When my wife & I travel. we always stop and fish in creeks and rivers.
I can't tell you how many times I've gone ultra light fishing with braided line it's just fun just like you said in the video it feels like your reeling in a whalers just a different kind of fishingsome like it some don't not a big deal you keep being you love the videos keep em coming tight lines brother👍

I did the big bass hunting, some catfishing and carp. And that was great. But never had a better time than putting on the hip waders and walking a shallow creek in the middle of nowhere with the ultralight. Hunting for pools and pulling out panfish and the occasional smallie. Pro tip: keep a cigar and flask in the tackle bag for the special place on the side of the water for a sit down. You'll know when you find it :)

Right about 7:10 I thought I saw Big Foot on the bank across from you and then I realized it was your shadow with the sun behind you. I really like these fishing trips when you have Chris with you. I can tell that you guys are good friends because he will be talking and you catch one and start showing it to us then cast back out and he's still talking and you just resume the conversation just like you had never stopped. That's cool. Those Redbreasts are so pretty. I wish we had some around here. There might be but I have never seen one. Happy fishing. I'm going to order some of that braid.
I use 6 pund braid line with 6 pound leader for creek and shore fishing in the beach, it works really good and it allows me to cast 1/16 OZ lure so far with no problems
I use a 6,6 ultralight rod with braid and 4 to 6 pound flourocarbon leader for trout fishing. All my buddie's and the peanut gallery on the Facebook forum were like that is stupid that makes no sense, you don't want to tie a leader on the river bank yada yada. Well I love the set up and with one of those nail knot tying tools I can a tie a new leader on super fast if I have to which is rare. I mostly throw spinners, trout magnets and maribou jigs. Love the sensitivity of the braided line.
I regularly fish ultralight rods for trout. What are the advantages of using braid with a fluoro leader? Is it worth it? Right now I have 6lb mono on my ultralight rods
@@nathananderson3681 I like it for the sensitivity of the braid I think the flourocarbon makes for good presentation especially for winter time when the water is so clear. I am not a good enough fisherman to say for sure as sometimes my bull in a China shop spooks fish. I do catch fish with this set up though. I have my daughter's rod strung with 4 pound mono and she hasn't out fished me yet but she catches fish too.
Great video man 👍 i respect that you use Piscifun feels like the Carbon X in your videos. That has to be my favorite reel and their braided line works like a charm too. But I get people telling me how to ultralight fish(especially trout fishing) too but there’s no right way because fish will bite almost everything. Fish like Bass, Trout, Crappie, etc don’t look up and say “oh this guy is using 6lb braid let me take a bite” Lol Of course there’s ways people have been doing it in the past but times have changed and it doesn’t mean the old school way doesn’t work it just means there’s so many great ways to fish nowadays. Keep them videos up 🔥
Your the man. I watch your videos everyday. You make me motivated to fish and go hard at it. I can't wait to do the kayak videos. I got a nice set up and you deff are a beast. Keep doing your thing man. Tight lines
Good stuff as always, John! I have started using small jigs up here in PA because of you, and having a blast with small creek fish! I do miss seeing the usual opening where you play the music while a bluegill knocks your underwater camera over, though...Thats a classic CFA intro!! :-)
Fighting alot of demons lately and every time i see John fishing some pothole in East Tennessee i remember me and my Dad doing that. Just calms my nerves. Semper Fi John!

great video you went fishing you caught fish, dont pay attention to what people say. I have started keeping walmart and grocery bags in the car put one im my fishing bag haul out any trash i find someone's gotta do it, have fun
Got the urge to go back to place I caught an 18-in small mouth and got 2 more 1- 16 1/2 in 1 - 17 1/4 tried sending pictures but phone not cooperating caught them on 3-in Gulp minis the main reason was I went back was because the last week I have been watching your videos because it's only been in the 20's and 30's here thank again keep the videos rolling hopefully we will get a few more days to fish before winter sets in
Just catch fish. I've used nothing but ultralight for 20 years. Six pound small mouth and fifteen pound chanel cat. And two oz shiners and darter's. Fish for the fun of it man
I just put 20lb braid on my okuma ceymar 1000b bait caster spinning reel. Hard to find smaller pound line in Las Vegas. I want to use those at small ponds

John, I watch your videos and know you use a lot of different gear. One outfit I've seen is from Lew's. I want to get the Lew's Infinity XJ combo, but I've seen some bad reviews about rods breaking and reels stripping gears after 2 casts. Are Lew's combos a good buy?
I love braid for line management and sensitivity but i am not a fan of the uncomfortable sound of braid rubbing against the guides. I’ve used braid for all of my set ups so mono just feels too mushy now. Can’t deny it feels smooth. Split if I should go back.

A leader of monofilament or fluorocarbon is used so the fish doesn't see the braid line attached to the lure. Especially in very clear water.
