Congrats!!! Once get drivers over 21 inches that have high xmax things start to be realized. They make for a totally different movie experience. I don’t think they make for great musical experiences so use pro drivers for 30-35hz and up but can get by with high xmax drivers for a dual purpose room if movies are top priority for sure. They can be tuned well enough to have a great experience.
I have demoed the Mariana 24 at audio shows crossed at 120 Hz to show their capabilities. I had a customer testing his Mariana 18s up to 150 Hz. Speakers are dumb transducers; in our case the 80 lb magnet-motor is moving a 1.5 lb cone with 4,000 watts making sure that happens. These subwoofers don’t care whether they’re asked to reproduce movies, classical, or rap; these subs are world-class in terms of output and accuracy.
Oh yea they can sound great for music when tuned and matched with the mains but I just can’t say I’d prefer them over a Pro Style driver for music. I have mine in a room tuned by one of the worlds best, TheLion on AVSforums or real name Walter Fortmueller. I fly him in from across the pond and he put one heck of a tune through my Altitude32 on the high xmax drivers fed by as much 240v current as they can handle but will always prefer a lightweight cone pro drivers offer for music no matter how well the tune.
I have 6 still n their crates plus 10 21” Mach5 units that I’ve been running for 10 years all just for sub 35hz content. 18” custom pro drivers for above 35hz.
Damn, that sounds like a crazy setup. Those Mach 5 21 inchers are crazy good on their own. I have 2 of the Mach 5 ftw 21's in my living room, and I can't come close to turning them up full blast as my mains wouldn't be able to keep up plus I live in an apartment. What kind of speakers are you using for your mains and how big is your theater space?
congratulations man! You deserve it and you've worked hard to get to this point. You also have been saying for awhile that you want these. Killer setup man.
Man I was thinking to myself see what’s new about subs on UA-cam I got this video man those are a beautiful n the beast subwoofer you got me want some …I can hear in your voice those some bad boys enjoy
If you're planning on an equal array of two more in the rear, then you might want to check check out wave forming by Trinnov, which I understand creates perfect room acoustics for subsonic room equalization.
Yes, I am looking forward to working with someone to build an array of front and rear subs who has a Trinnov (or Dirac ART) to take advantage of wave-forming to hear the effect.
wow those are some really nice subwoofers i hope to get 24 inch subs one day ..they look amazing chris but are they really endgame ..?..what about adding 2 more in the back ..lol...nice work my freind...
Hey Chris,hi from Toronto.Congrats on your new subs.I am enjoying your video's.Your right about Brandon Hill,he did my system twice.Keep up on your great work.
I’ve listened to many rooms with many quality of speakers and I don’t do critical listening anymore, I just enjoy each room for what it is. From an equipment standpoint, his Polk towers definitely aren’t high-end or premium but I didn’t feel anything was missing from his theater. One, he gets his system calibrated, which is most important because whatever the equipment, he’s able to get the most of it. Two, Chris has an acoustically-transparent screen with 3 identical Polk tower speakers for LCR, which is very nice and could be considered better as compared to a mismatched center speaker. Three, his room does have some treatments though isn’t an incredibly treated room so there is an opportunity for improvement there. Four, his Atmos is really nice and immersive. So yes his LCRs are more modest but they are by no means lacking. When the movies are playing, I’m sure everyone that hears his system will have huge grins on their face and that is what it’s all about.
@@bingdong8571 I get it man. Polks are best bang for the buck and are frowned on but if you could hear it they sound amazing! My last upgrade will be speakers. I have been looking at different ones but I haven’t decided on what I want. But when I buy a set I want them to last a long time like these polks have. David brought up good points. I do have some sound panels but I’m gonna need some ceiling treatments and some diffusion. I’ve got a partial remodel coming soon to get the equipment out of the room and extending the room to add a second row. I will deal with a lot of things at that point to get the room dialed in. I intend on being done with things and just dealing out equipment to review. So the only 2 upgrades left is speakers and projector and that should last me a long time.
Honestly, it's all good if u like it like Mariana dude said. I was just making a vague joking statement. I still use a polk lsim2 center because it's not as harsh as other centers. Polk makes good speakers for the price. Anyway, sounds like your room sounds good! Congrats! It's not easy imho.
Wow. Gotta say, these are awesome!! I had seen these before at mwave or somewhere, but to see them in your space.. just wow! Can’t wait till you get the 2 -18” Marianas in the rear!! 🎉 Curious tho, those 24” from what I’ve seen, play phenomenally at 5hz to like 80hz, but how will you cross these over? What freq for the 24” and then for the 18”? 🎉
I’ve measured the Marina 24 in many rooms and it plays flat to 6 Hz at reference level. The first time I heard the 24, it was crossed at 100Hz and I was so surprised, that is what first got me interested in starting Deep Sea Sound. When we demoed at THE Show in LA quite a few years ago, we took a single 24 and crossed it at 120 Hz just to show how capable it was. I also know of one user that was testing a pair of Mariana 18s crossed at 150 Hz but I never heard where that testing ended up.
I built my own using the SI drivers, GSG evo cabinets, and CVR amps. The 125hz burst test result on a single sub was 125.1dB at 2.5% distortion at my listening position about 10 ft away. They play strong even at 200hz and above. I cross over at 100hz.
@@miscreant1739 thanks!! I coulda swear I’d seen these being capable of playing clean above 100hz (obsessed??) at any rate, It seems the amp and quality sealed enclosure would allow them to be very “musical” if asked. Lol. Btw. Why in the world would anyone buy the RBH 21” ($11k) or even the Perlisten D215s ($12k with grille) when you can get one these or a couple of the 18”s which seem WAY more capable of below 20hz for I think less $$??!
@@MattyDaddy14 They're definitely plenty "musical". There's probably not a good reason if absolute performance is the primary concern. Maybe someone has Perlisten/RBH speakers and wants the brand of the subs to match the speakers, just prefers the look of one over the other, or the shape of one sub fits the space better than the others. DIY is also a great way to get this kind of performance for less than half the cost of commercial solutions, but there's a lot of waiting and work involved.

$7500 for the Duratex durable coating finish. $8500 for veneered and stained finishes. Not cheap but these are the most powerful 24" sealed home theater subwoofers on the market. The retail price of just the SpeakerPower SP1-4000 plate amplifier and the Stereo Integrity HS-24 subwoofer driver are over $3000 by themselves and that doesn't include wood, hardware, CNC time, or of course labor to build and finish each subwoofer. These obviously aren't cheap but they are a definite value when you consider the sheer performance.
@@AeroDude73 you’re paying for quality. That’s build and sound quality! The components are top quality! The build and the finish quality are the best out there! So in turn you’re getting the highest quality best sounding, most power subwoofer money can buy.
I think the Funk Audio Ultra LFE 24 could beat one of these by a long shot considering it's ported, because the numbers I saw it put out on a certain UA-camr's review were insane to say the least. And even the sealed version could as well but by a small margin. Both Funks (Ported & Sealed Ultra LFE 24 inch versions) have 4400 watts of power behind them. LOL.... If someone has a Funk Audio, JTR, Seaton, PSA, or Deep Sea Sound subs (and any number of others), they've got a pretty impressive system.
