I had friends that only had Playstations and whatnot that when they saw me playing soul caliber or DOA or mvc2 they couldn't get over how good it looked. "DUDE this looks like an arcade machine!"... it is.
great list man! im a '94 but never really got to experience the system as a kid other than with sonic adventure! appreciate you taking the time for these types of videos. just downloaded an emulator! cheers
Been wanting to get more into the Dreamcast library and this list definitely helped. I would be interested in top hundred videos for other consoles. Thanks!
30 - Devellopped by Takumi (Mars Matrix) and published by Capcom, Giga Wing 2 made its débuts on the Sega Naomi arcade board in 2000 before finding its way to the Japanese and North American Dreamcast in early 2001. This bullet hell takes advantage of the Naomi's 2.5D / 3D capacities, in the same way Capcom vs SNK 2 does. The visuals and textures also get an upgrade over the installments released on the CPS II arcade board. Giga Wing 2 succeeds where Treasure's Ikaruga fails. While Ikaruga received most of its accolades post-mortem, the contemporary reviews did not share the enthusiasm of the modern press, with good reasons. The bullet hell mechanic on Giga Wing 2 builds and expands on the Mars Matrix charging system, but kept the bombs present on the original Giga Wing game, making up for a fast-paced and extremely satisfying shoot'em up, unlike Ikaruga's slow puzzle-like attempt of a shmup. Icing on the cake, Giga Wing 2 is served with an actual storyline, according to which character and vessel you pick at the start. You'd be wrong to assume the noticeable cinematic orchestration is random, as it is everything but. With its violin tensions and beautiful vocal moments, Giga Wing 2's music score propels those warm colourful visuals into the space opera galaxy. The bomb makes an impact in the game's difficulty. Overall, you're up for a reasonnable challenge. Giga Wing 2 is more than a coin-muncher, it is a savings drainer because of how addictive it is, hence why you absolutely need the _actual_ greatest shmup in the Dreamcast's library.
Fantastic video, you really hit all the great points about each game and why they're good with brevity and confidence! Dreamcast has such a great library of both unique titles and best-of ports + arcade glory, there's even more good games but this list of 100 is perfectly on point!
Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, and Dynamite Cop were games I played the hell out of as a child. I’ve been watching a let’s play of Skies of Arcadia and that’s a hidden gem for sure.
Oh, Skies of Arcadia is more than a hidden gem! It's up there with your Soul Calibur, your Code Veronica, your Crazy Taxi, your JetSet Radio, your Sonic Adventure and your Shenmue. Phenomenal visuals, great characters and storyline, original idea with the ship battle, good music, Skies of Arcadia is one of the best RPGs you'll ever play. It's even better than Grandia II by GameArts and Grandia II is rock solid !!! If Shenmue is a 19 out of 20, I'd give Skies of Arcadia a 17.
After installing RetroArch on a 15 year old computer that someone threw away I have to say I'm totally impressed with Dreamcast games. I never played Dreamcast before this and I do like PS2 and Xbox but Dreamcast games are totally underrated. Sega couldn't keep up to the demand and competition of PS2 but I now think Dreamcast is by far my favorite 6th generation console. Thanks for the great video.
I now have a greater working knowledge of many Dreamcast games thanks to your hard work. All whilst cleaning the house and screenshotting whenever I hear a game concept that I would like.
never had a dreamcast was just a kid around this time and only could afford a ps1 and n64 ....so its kinda cool looking at these games and remanuring what i missed
Still have mine from highschool... please stay working! It's so much cooler than my xbox series x ,PC, etc. I thought it was so cool to see re release of the capcom fighters and know i don't need to bother because i already have them all
I'm still kicking myself for not buying it 20 odd years ago. I had the Ebay listing up and everything ready to buy it before having second thoughts! That ship has certainly sailed now :(
Unfortunately the website and UA-cam channel cannot really support the creation of new lists (and its looking like they probably never will). Either of those lists would take me ~500 hours to make. In fact it would probably take me over 100 hours just to play through the remaining PS2 JRPGs that I am currently unfamiliar with!
@@RetroSanctuary I didn't know it was so time consuming. That's unfortunate, I got very excited when you added the Gamecube list. These lists were a big influence on me over a decade ago now when coming to grips with these systems.
@@steve5123456789 The issue is that when you start out you make Top 100s for console's you're very familiar with of course, then they do well, so you make some top 100s for consoles you know slightly less, this goes on and on until you're at the stage were you're needing to play 100s of games in order to gain the knowledge to actually make the list! Where the PS2 is concerned I'm probably only familiar with ~60-70 games, and the shortlists I start with for my Top 100s usually include well over 200 games so I'd have to play A LOT of games, the PS2 has a massive library so I wouldn't be surprised if I'd have closer to 300 for a shortlist for that console!

I've always loved first Sonic Adventure and I've tried to love SA2 but to no avail. I've started it more than several times and always end up playing at some stupid Knuckles stage where you have to look for emeralds. Also didn't like stupid Tails shooting stages. I wish I could play Sonic stages only like in 1st one. Oh well, looks like most people love this game
Sony of America's policy on 2D gaming was causing them a lot of trouble at the time, 2D games were still a major part of Capcom's output so a Playstation monopoly could feasibly be dangerous to their company. Essentially I think Capcom wanted a healthy Playstation competitor so they would have an escape route if things got worse for them. After the Dreamcast failed they tried to throw their support behind GameCube with the "Capcom 5" debacle, but this didn't work out either. In the end the PS2 didn't turn out to be an issue for them anyway.

It was crazy how fast the library grew, Sega really made sure it was as quick and easy to produce games on the system as possible.

Bangai-O and Mars Matrix should have been way higher up. Nice to see Border Down, but where's Psyvariar 2?
I miss Speed Devils from Ubisoft. It was the best arcade car racing game on Dreamcast, Release 1999 in Europe.
I often wondered why they didn't release scud racer on the DC.
