The backpack usually comes sold with sealed ice packs it's not supposed to be filled with ice.

I have not liked this backpack cooler. Mind you, I live in AZ and my opinion comes from me using this in the summer. I've kept the backpack tucked in a shaded compartment in my kayak and by a few hours all of the ice has melted and water leaked through the main compartment. I wouldn't personally recommend this.

I believe so, but I think the new model is a bit different than this one. Pretty much the same, but one small difference.
