Has any one of you that commented on camping at Joshua Tree actually called the law about this obvious abuse? It won't get any better if you stay silent and ignore the misuse. Remaining silent gives the miscreants a stronger toe-hold.

@@worldupsidedown1 You are right. I've read about it from other campers here and there. Also, I see that many Wal-Marts no longer allow overnight stays at their stores. Also, some of the Planet Fitness are turning the water off for showers and you have to ask to have it turned on. It makes me sad that so many folks have to be slobs when they stay in different BLM spots. I'm not complaining about folks who are homeless. That can happen to any of us. But keep your spot cleaned up.

I wonder if it is because of the economy in California. We have noticed that many of the campgrounds especially in California are full of people who are living there full time because they can't afford the cost of housing in CA. Many of the trailers look decades old, and I think it is because that is the only thing that they can afford.

A couple of days ago I watched a video of 4 RV'ers who were menaced of BLM country in Utah, if I remember correctly. The 4, middle-aged men with their own individual RV campers had just pulled in and were challenged by a couple of younger men doing doughnuts in the isolated area right in front of where they had parked and set up for the couple of days of enjoying the solitude and beauty of the wilds. When the older guys challenged the rowdies they left and returned with reinforcements in numbers and possibly guns. As night was approaching and none of the older guys were armed, wisdom, that is, decretion, being the better part of valor, spoke loudly and clearly they left posthaste. Better to be in one piece with an undamaged vehicle than prove your vulnerability ( or otherwise) by standing ground just to prove a point.

Robin, have been following you for awhile and was really surprised when you said you were at Joshua Tree. I was stationed at MCB 29 Palms a couple of times when I was in the Marine Corps. My first time I had a Kawasaki 250 Enduro and would camp all over the place on free weekends when I didn't have duty. Even went up to Big Bear a couple of times. That area has really changed alot since I was there. Left for Hawaii back in June of 77 after I was promoted to Staff Sargeant. Sure would like to make it back there one last time. When we left for Hawaii there were some rain storms which caused some flash floods but we lucked out and missed them. We used to describe the upper desert as "miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles". Lots of memories from that period and thank you for bringing them back.....Semper Fi!!!!!

I am in the same area as this video and I ended up paying for 2 nights in an RV park because I haven't felt safe anywhere I've tried to boondock. I rarely camp in paid parks so this was unexpected but when I pulled into different areas on the cottonwood side outside the park the garbage in the dispersed camping areas was unlike anything I'd ever seen. It was disgusting. I drove to the north entrance and got to Joshua tree and the very same road you went down and didn't feel safe as a female boondocking alone to camp there. I already knew not to go to giant rock area because friends had been run out of there a few days before by locals. I also tried dispersed camping in the park itself and the ranger didn't even let me go into the park because he asked if I was planning to camp and I said yes and he told me all paid and dispersed campsites were full and made me do a u turn at the park pay entrance because he was afraid I'd try to camp in the park in non regulated dispersed areas once he knew I wanted to camp . I explained it was getting late and my dog and I had driven for hours and it would be faster for me to get back to and LTVA near Blythe if I drove thru the park and yet he still didn't allow me entrance because he was so sure I'd hide behind a tree somewhere and camp outside the designated areas. Well my entire trip to Joshua tree has been a bust and I probably will never return to explore the park because sadly it has been a complete waste of time, gas and money for a RV park. I'm spoiled obviously from Nevada, Arizona and other states that have pristine free land to boondock. I had plans to go to another park to see the flowers in bloom in California but now I'm afraid I'll end up in the same situation without a place to camp.

I have heard this problem from others on BLM land in California, Arizona, and a few other states, where problem people have taken over, and even assaulted campers, including a lady who lives in her car. She was sleeping, and someone smashed a large rock threw her rear window.
There were a lot of other campers there too,

It looked like some of the campers on the BLM land were dirt bike riders. Unless you have a bike, I wouldn’t want to stay there for the noise factor. I’m glad you were able to pivot. :)

Hi Robin, yep I ran into those extremely messy trashy RVs in the desert all the time. I am so surprised that this was like something of a unique experience for you I understand like you said why people do it. you know rent is so high and it is so much better to live in an RV rent-free go to the desert where it's beautiful set up camp and live there. the problem is a lot of those people are on meth and those kind of people get so dirty and trashy and a can be very dangerous. Unfortunately thats reality. I know first hand. Robin this was another great video and I want to thank you for it. the mattress looks killer and I know RV mattresses suck and you always have to get one so much better. thank you for all that you do. say hello to Debbie for me tell her it's Kavita. I'm so glad she won the mattress. Yay for Debbie. by the way, Robin, your hair looks so awesome and so beautiful on you. be well stay safe and enjoy. Give a dance in the desert for me. ❤❤

I don't care how broke you are there is no excuse for a trashy camp . Bag your trash, and line it up neatly,at least, then get it outta there when u can. - at the very least.

Robin, so happy you posted this! (And all the other videos)
Our first intro to BLM was back in ‘96…. We lived in Carlsbad NM and the BLM land was not too far away.
Now a days all we have seen on BLM land has been garbage & over stays or homeless etc…
BLM was nice back then in ‘96…. We enjoyed some camping out there.
However the very next weekend after we were last there, a lady from husband’s office took our suggestion for camping out there…
(Warning: horrible part of the story)
This lady and family went out there near where we once were, they were having a good time but, a natural gas pipe exploded!
She was killed as was another family member…..
There was no recourse to the government for the family.
    It was horrible.
    Camp at your own risk!
