Hey, Chris I can sympathize with the situation you are in right now...
I am the exact opposite of you. I have desease too, but the treatments made me take about 110lbs. I was the sexy, cute and kind guy and this was the only thing I was proud of. Being diagnosed with heavy chronic depression, taking medecine, took me that, and I am now with a body I cannot accept and nothing else to cling to.
Seeing you is encouraging and shameful at the same time. You gave yourself the means to be like you wanted, and I don't want to be like I am right now. But in the same time, being like this is helping me, because I have to rely on something else to find happiness, and love. I know that if someone desires me, it's not because I'm sexy. I know that if I don't like my body the way it is, it's because I feel ashamed. I don't want to take shirtless pics, I just can't, because of that same feeling you had, that made you want to change rather than accept or fight back.
I know it will be a long road for me to find a way to accept myself, without having to conform to the norm and let my selfconfidence rely entirely on my body. You found a way to accept yours, it is not the same for everyone. For some people, it's easier to accept their body than change it. I still don't know.
I'm really happy you realized how misunderstood your body positivity posts could be. When I saw them, I was both happy for you because you made your dream body come true and ashamed of my own body. Because indeed it is still easy for someone to tell you to accept your body as it is when that person is fit af and sticks to the norm.
I'm grateful that you clarified what body positivity means : just a way of living with yourself. You are happy now, I am not, and maybe I won't have to change that much. the important things is :
You are an amazing person, you care for us as much as we (or I) care for you. It means a lot for me that you can express yourself about it, and say to me that you and no one is the example of what I have to become. I have tears in my eyes just writing the end of this comment, because it means a lot for me.
THANK YOU for telling me that I don't have to become like you, just thank you. Even if I know it, even if I knew what you were thinking about all this, just hearing it is like the most positive things I have been told lately...

Cyril Durou OF COURSE! I’m so sorry that you’re going through the struggles that you’re going through! But know that anything worth having is worth working for, and in this case that is happiness! It took me a really long time to find happiness with my body but I got there and I know you will too!

Chris you are doing an amazing job in promoting Body Positivity. You are being so clear on where you stand. No matter what you do someone is always going try and find something wrong with what you are doing or Saying.
What I love about you is you are honest about your journey flaws and all!!!! One of the reason I post full length pics when I can, post make up and undedited pics is because I know so many beautiful people who shy away from taking pics or alter their pics so much because they are scared of being seen as fat or unattractive.
I am so proud of you Chris it takes such courage to share your own journey especially as you have dealt with body dismorphia, and other issues to do with societies ideals. It really does take courage to speak up and to share such a deeply personal story.
That is a huge part of the issue is that Body Positivity and Size Acceptance have become so intertwined and a lot of that has to do with Media inter mingling the terms and using them interchangable
Body Positivity is about being all inclusive ALL BODIES ALL SIZES ALL SHAPES ARE BEAUTIFUL HANDSOME etc
This video is so so so Needed. Well done Chris and Dre

    Bonjour Chris!
Having been on many occasions during my life on the receiving end of body shaming, I can relate. Throughout my life I have been tagged as too fat, too skinny, too young, too old and so on. I came to realize that seeing myself through my own eyes and heart was more constructive and important than through those of others. I'm now a 42 year-old middle-aged bald chubby papa bear who loves himself just the way he is. I'M BEAUDACIOUS! LOL! And no matter what the naysayers out there might be throwing at you, people of the world, we are all beautiful!!!

Watching this, I adore you even more. Mad respect for this. As a 38 year old female in a wheelchair, it’s tough for me to like myself. I try, but, as I’m sure you have dealt with, people (not all) tend to suck. Most especially on social media, where people can hide. Regardless, “perfect” or not, you are an awesome person.

Bro your posts all of them are amazing and you have positive attitude and outlook behind them, I feel the ppl see things negatively aren’t taking the time to learn about you and just reading what they want into the posts. My body isn’t where I want it but thanks to you I’m actually comfortable with myself more than I have been in well ever. And helps motivate me to believe I can reach my goals but I have never once felt or seen anything negative or concerning from your posts dude!

I'm so glad you're promoting body positivity. It honestly makes me happy seeing a lot of people I look up to reaching out and putting more love in the world. I have a thyroid condition which makes it hard to lose weight even with medication, and I get made fun of a lot, especially for my neck because it looks swollen. I have been learning to love who I am but it gets hard when you keep hearing people making harsh comments day in and day out. I'm slowly getting to where I want to be mentally and physically, and it's honestly because of people like you lovely folks reminding me that everyone is beautiful in their own way. Please don't ever let anyone being negative get to you, and keep being the amazing person you are, Chris. Much love 💜

Chris, I’m sorry to admit that I saw your post that you referred to in the beginning but I just double tapped it without reading. At first glance, I thought it was a progress post so I just scrolled. However, after you read it I loved that you pointed out it was the same picture (essentially) just set up differently. It is important to realize that any picture any posts is staged and not what they always look like. I hope to meet you one day, you are such a down to earth and talented guy.

THIS. I have lived my entire life with body issues plus dealing with my PCOS, which contributes to those body struggles, and even to this day I still struggle with trying to be body positive within myself. I always try to break the stigma that body positivity only applies to people with my shared body type because our beauty is “unconventional” and I love this video for addressing that issue. Honestly, needed this today.

Can I just say that I HATE that Chris felt compelled to make this video. Chris is one of the most positive and encouraging people that I have the pleasure of getting to know. Yes there will always be haters who feel the need to lash out their jealousy via comments. However, Chris and Dre have come so far mentally, emotionally etc to get to the point where they feel comfortable posting images that show their bodies and they both make EXCELLENT points on Body Positivity. We all deal with trying to be acceptive of our own bodies, even if you are attractive and fit (aka Chris) or heavier set (aka Tess Holliday, Ashley Graham, or myself). We are forgetting cardinal rules of life, Treat others the way you want to be treated, If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all etc etc. We are all humans running this race called life together, there is enough negativity in this world for all of us. Can we just love one another and spread joy and positivity? That's it, I'm done. Chris and Dre I love you both and thank you for continuing to be beautiful lights in this world!

I think you are right and that a lot of the backlash comes from people who either are uninformed about body positivity or who are not body positive about themselves. When I saw the posts I did not relate them to myself as a body that I should aspire to be. I have had my own struggles and spent years getting my body to point I am comfortable with. When I see someone with an "ideal" body I just think "good for them. :)" To be honest, sometimes I will still look at my body and think I need to change it a little, but that is from my own choice, opinion and decision. Not influenced by Society "norms" or the pictures I see others post.
I've learned that almost everyone I know gets worried about the way their bodies are. Some say they have bad skin and don't want to show it, some think they are too fat and cant dress sexy, some think they are too thin and look like a bag of bones. Everyone has struggles and to think you can judge a person by the picture they put out there is wrong because you know nothing about them aside from what you see in that picture.
What I saw in the post you put up was someone who worked so hard to reach the body they had now, that you did not consider yourself the "ideal" body type, and you want people to love their body no matter what body type because there is no bad body. Everyone looks different and that's what makes us all unique. Love yourself for who you are, don't hate yourself for what you are not. Don't try to be someone else and don't try to make someone else be you. Be you and be whatever version of yourself you want be, not what you think Society wants you to be.
Anyways, that's all from me. You are Awesome Chris and Dre is Amazing. Both of you, Keep being you. ;)

See the thing for me is I have social anxiety and body issues because I am over weight and it creates a self eating monster that I continue to eat unhealthy because of my anxiety, and have anxiety because of my body. I want to loose weight not to have the "ideal woman body" but just to be healthy so I can stay way diabetes and high cholesterol which run in my family. I thank you Chris for sharing this video. I really liked this video. It was nice to see. I also want to be more body positive about myself, so learning more about his struggle is wonderful. I also am glad to hear from the men of the world on the way our culture forces an ideal body type on the world. You hear about it a lot from women in the media, but rarely do we ever hear about the effects this type of media has on growing boys and young men.

Thank you for sharing this, I know that it must have been hard to talk about your own struggles. As someone who is not a part of twitter or instagram I am not exposed to most of these types of pictures. However, as someone who likes makeup, yet struggles with the idea that I like me with and without makeup. It's why I don't share pictures, as I don't like feeling like I'm tricking people, but I LIKE makeup, and struggle with showing that side of me. As I am told that me using makeup is a way of "scamming" others or making others compare themselves. So thank you for talking about this. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your body/face, whatever your body/face look like. I am sorry that you have more of a struggle with this, as you have a lot more people watching and judging you then I could ever comprehend! Just, thanks for sharing that body positivity is more than just those that have a body type that goes against the socially accepted body type. :)

I can see why you felt the need to do this video and honestly think it was a great video to do. I did comment on IG but hope it wasn't seen as negative? However, I didn't read other comments so I can't give opinion on what was said. I'm pleased Dre had a say as she cleared alot of what I was thinking whilst watching. One of the issues is that Body Po did start out for the plus size community and the Self Love tag was meant to be used to cover everyone appreciating who they are and what they have. As has been stated it seems the Body Po tag has now become something to be used by all. Am I saying it shouldn't be? Nope! Doesn't bother me in the slightest as I agree. Whether you call it self love or body positivity, loving yourself for who and what you are is the point, as is appreciating everyone is an individual and unique and shouldn't be expected to look a certain way. I think with your last post, it wasn't your actual topless body being the issue for most but the fact you chose certain lighting and to flex your muscles rather than be in natural lighting and just be relaxed that had people confused when promoting Body Po. I can see where they're coming from, as if you're happy with yourself why feel the need to flex etc? But who doesn't improve their pictures online?! We all do. Even those massively in the Body Po community. No one constantly posts pics of themselves completely natural and in any angle or lighting without a care. So they can't preach. We need to keep open minds, we need to keep promoting supportiveness and love. I've said it before but I'm super proud of you for opening up and sharing your story. Some could look at you and assume you're perfect, but showing yourself a little more bare here and there keeps it real and makes everyone rethink. Keep taking good care and just keep being you. You're awesome, one of my favourite people on IG.

The problem is that body image issues is subliminal as you say chris you went through these issues too and you should know too that when you see the "ideal" male body in a movie, ad or tv show they usually do not say "This is the ideal model" it is just the fact that these ripped and muscular bodies are praised, it is not your fault that people praise your body when you post photos of yourself shirtless but that praise is what makes people feel bad about their "unideal" bodies

I’ve been recently worrying that I was making things worse through my Instagram (Mikky_Kitty) by presenting the best side of myself, but the photos are model photos and generally that’s what they’re specifically for, despite this I’ve also been feeling a disconnect between myself in reality and myself in photos which has triggered my body dysmorphia. I was wondering if this is something you struggle with too?

(Trigger warning, eating disorders, bullying, abuse also if you have a phobia of words skip this post because it's a short novel, no really it's incredibly long)
    .
    .
    .
    .
    OK, first of all,
in my opinion, you can post whatever you like and you don't owe anybody an explanation. It's your Instagram, UA-cam channel, Facebook wall. or whatever platform it is you're using. It's your body and it's your life. I want to begin by saying that and by telling you that I would never tell anyone who isn't my child what they can and can not post.
I'm obviously a fan of your videos or I wouldn't be subscribed to you. I love your voice and your cosplay and your creativity and I enjoy your personality. I can't say I have spent any time what so ever thinking about your body. I don't mean that in an offensive way. You're a handsome chap and everything. I'm just not paying attention to that stuff. Anyway, the point of saying any of that was just to point out that I have obviously never been offended or triggered or felt shamed by anything you have posted even though you're slim and toned and I'm fat and couldn't find my abs with a map and a search party. I preach body positivity but in reality, I have 0 self-confidence thanks to daily abuse and bullying and 10 years in an abusive relationship and childhood trauma. I'm in awe of you and anyone else who does what you do in the name of spreading the message that everyone is allowed to love their body.
I spent 15 years working for a foundation for eating disorders, having struggled on both ends of the spectrum first with bulimia then anorexia and then compulsive overeating. Our entire deal was promoting body positivity and obviously, any body type can struggle with an eating disorder and not just because eating disorders include undereating and overeating but also because very thin people can be compulsive overeaters and bigger people can be anorexic or bulimic.
I totally agree that body positivity is not just about acceptance of us bigger body types. It's for every body type. If you're thin and toned and perfectly chiselled it's still for you and you're still allowed to love your body and you're still allowed to show the world that you love your body. I applaud your efforts to spread body positivity especially since you struggle to love your body so much. That takes so much courage and I find it deplorable that some people have chosen to attack you rather than celebrate that courage, just as they would if it were Dre (who I also sub too and enjoy immensely) doing it or any other curvier body type.
I think most of those negative comments were just plain silly, I disagree that they came from a place of 'jealousy' but I think they came from a misplaced anger. I think that sometimes when bigger people see people with a much more socially acceptable body type preach body positivity it makes them angry because it seems to them like it would be such an easy thing to love your body if you didn't have people telling you it was ugly every day of your life, if you didn't get stared at and laughed at and shamed from every direction, if the media showed you people that looked a lot like you (from their perspective) and said this is what you should look like.
I can empathise as a fellow fat person and I can see why they are angry but I don't agree with it and I certainly don't agree with lashing out over it. It's in no way your fault so being hostile towards you or any other slim person promoting body positivity is unacceptable.
The only part that I do agree with to some extent is the use of 'tricks' to make your body look more like 'societies idea of beautiful'
Showing your body as it is when you are slim and have a six pack and all of that is great and certainly still promoting body positivity but presenting images of your body that use optimal poses and lighting tricks and so on specifically aimed at making your body appear 'more perfect' than it certainly seems to me like promoting the idea that appearing as slim and toned and defined as possible is the ideal.
I mean to a much lesser extent it's like magazines using photoshop to rid the models of their 'imperfections.' People that don't know that you only look like that because you're flexing a certain way and using optimal lighting may well be getting the wrong idea. I don't use Instagram because I'm old and technology confuses me so for all I know you might be posting your pictures with disclaimers about what you're doing to achieve that look in the photo. If so all of this is redundant. It's also just my opinion and it doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks as long as you feel good about what you're doing.
At the end of the day though I care much more about your intentions and being supportive of your efforts than I do about agreeing 100% with the way you're doing it. I do not ever support the attacking of another human who is just doing their best and I'd never take my anger out on a UA-camr for some stupid shit just because they are there.
I only wrote this short novel because this is a subject that I obviously care about, having dedicated 15 years to it and because you opened up discussion about it. I don't mean to be in any way critical and you will always have my support. I never comment but I watch every video I'm notified about *cough* fucking stupid UA-cam *cough* :)
Much love from across the ocean and many thanks for what you do. Apologies for the immensity of this comment.

Can i just say one thing? I know many women who wear push up bras and stick their butt out a certain way or wear certain clothes to look curvier. Therefore I don't see the difference if a guy flexes a bit for a picture.

No way am I defending those who came at Chris with negative comments but I kind of get why they did it. Those who did it are probably don't have abs or flat stomach and when they saw Chris who has abs and is in shape they feel bad about their own bodies cause they're comparing their bodies to his. To them they're thinking. "Oh that's funny coming from you someone with abs and is always flexing on social media." or "you don't know my struggles with my own weight problems get off your high horse" I know I use to be one of those people. Someone with a "god like body" preaching about loving your body when he has a "perfect" body already.

I hope my comment didn't contribute to this. Body positivity is something that's definitely something that needs to be talked about more. But my only concern is that oftentimes in history, once privileged people started joining communities that were founded by and for the non-privileged, the non-privileged end up getting pushed out and marginalised once again. I know that's not at all what you're trying to do, and I appreciate what you're trying to do. But it's something to be aware of. People look at you and immediately assume you're speaking about body positivity from a position of privilege. And from what you hinted at in this video, it sounds like that is definitely a relatively recent development, but still. People can be assholes. People will look at you and think that it's like a rich person telling a poor person "money can't buy happiness."

But being obese and fat is literally unhealthy.

  • @ivaskevin2088
    @ivaskevin2088 5 років тому

Yes, everyone should love their body and no one should be ashamed of their body, but sorry, not all bodies are good bodies. Being 300 pounds is not good, and neither is being 70 pounds (for an adult) because it's not healthy. Obesity causes diabetes, cancer, lung problems etc. and being underweight leads to infertilty, anemia, digestion problems etc. (both, of course, lead to death). If you truly loved your body, you would try to keep it healthy by eating healthy food and excersizing, not shoving mcdonalds down your throat every single day.
(Just wanted to say this because i know a lot of people who preach body positivity say it's okay to be 300 pounds etc. when really it's not.)
