Pixar's most underrated gem and one of my favorites! So glad more people are reacting to it now and giving it the attention it deserves.
Surely not related to the anti-establishment commentary🌚
LOL!!!!
I knew there was gonna be someone saying that this was the most underrated Pixar movie on here and sure enough it was very first comment that I saw as soon as I clicked on it 😂🤣😆
@@TableCreed which is odd due to the fact that it was only their second movie. You’d think that it would’ve been almost as good as their previous film Toy Story which was a huge mega hit
@@TableCreed also, that’s the exact sameway I feel about Adam Sandler and his bullshit. I loved Sandler as a teenager, but when I matured and got older, his films are worst movies I’ve ever seen. Sandler is the biggest loser to ever make it in Hollywood, not to mention the most overrated… Rob Schneider is even funnier than him
@@nsasupporter7557that’s exactly why it is so underrated. It was the second Pixar film following the revolutionary and critically acclaimed Toy Story that it made it look underwhelming
Hopper and his grasshoppers are basically the bug version of Negan and the saviors from the walking dead
Nah , I'm pretty it's the Marshall and it's men from "seven samurai " or " magnificent seven "
or any government
The grasshoppers were supposed to be like the Hell's Angels. That is why they sounded like Harleys when they flew.
It's totally Seven Samurai.
Never before has a film have a death scene that can be adorable and terrifying at the same time.
PIXAR really should bring back the "Out takes" reels at the end of each movie.
One future movie at least
Antz with Sylvester Stallone is fire 😂😂😂
Fr, when Holden mentioned it I got a flashback. So amazing tbh
Woody Allen was the main character in it, wasn't he?
Don't forget him staring at J-Los butt lol
@@MatthewJamesKalaskyyes, he was
I agree 100%. I'd take Antz over this any day of the week.
One of the most underrated Disney/Pixar movies
I'm dead. "A misunderstood genius?" *Audible Eyeroll*
💀
"JUST LEAVE" always had me on the floor laughing
The bloopers at the end was always so good
I think it is good for kids since the grasshoppers were pretty scary. It lightens the mood for them. A lot of intense movies used to do that back in the day-like the famous curtain call from The Bad Seed
This movie makes me cry because I love the underdog story of Flik wanting to make a difference in his colony and him being the hero to help all the ants stand up to the grasshoppers. This is an underrated movie and so is WALL-E which I highly recommend
WALL-E isn't underrated, in fact it's often touted as one of the best animated movies ever and among the best love stories ever, where do you get underrated?
@@ronweber1402 if you haven’t already noticed… ALOT of people call EVERYTHING underrated on UA-cam. “Underrated” has literally become everybody’s favorite word. They constantly use it inaccurately all the time every 2 seconds. It’s like they don’t even know the correct definition of the word. I’m constantly telling people to stop saying “underrated” and stop calling everything that because it’s annoying as hell
@@nsasupporter7557and everyone was snubbed for an Oscar
The sound design in this is phenomenal. I vividly remember as a kid marveling at the sounds and it still sounds great. One of my favorite movies! Even though I hate ants in real life😂
It was a technological quantum leap from Toy Story. Looks and sounds great. But the story is reeealy simple and the performances kinda carry the movie.
Always loved A Bug’s Life as a kid and have found a new appreciation for it later in life when I realized it was essentially the same plot to Seven Samurai!
“Where’s the food?!” Is commonly said in my household from this movie.
Nothing like a movie showing the power of workers and how much more important they are than the bosses.
A Bug's Life is one of my favorite growing up, and even until now. There's no other's like it. Love Pixar's movies.
A Bug’s Life is actually the most uncredited Pixar movie… out of their early movies, at least.
This movie is one of, if not the very last, role for the late and great Roddy McDowall. He's Mr. Soil, the ant at the beginning who says "its nothing compared to the twig of '93." He's best known for playing Cornelius and later Caesar in the original Planet of the Apes movies.
This movie was my childhood, i didn't have alot of movies, i'll never forget the snail eating salt, hade to learn what happend and it started my interest into animals
Antz holds a hilarious place in my heart. The first time my mom watched it, she was shocked that there was a swear word in a kid's movie. I couldn't stop laughing because I was a teen by the time she noticed, and it was years after I had the movie on VHS.
I made it onto the Comment of the Day!!! 😱 *faints*
Slim is so funny in this. Comes out with some absolute gems. When he's being used as a sword "Swish, swish, wang, wang" in such a monotone uninterested voice 😂. Then when he gets lost in the bush "I'm the only stick with eyeballs!" One of my favourite Pixar films alongside toy story. Very underrated.
A few weeks ago, someone said that the plot for "A Bug Life" and "The Three Amigos" are the same. And now I can't unsee that.
You should check out Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (1954) then!
Honestly I thought this had a very powerful message community. Also being able to work with others that are outside of your community. Plus how people who Perceive that they are more powerful or more Entitle can't just do anything.
This film is SO under appreciated!
Yeah, it’s the Pixar movie that flew under the radar the most
This was around the time of echo movies... a Bug's Life V. Antz. I thought both were great but the animation was a little rough in Antz. DreamWorks nailed their animation now.
This movie is a gem … so, so legitimately LOL funny
Yeah, it’s the Pixar movie that flew under the radar the most
Please give Surf's Up a watch. Such an underrated film
Stop saying underrated! Would everybody please stop labeling everything as “underrated!” It’s annoying as hell. When did “underrated” become everybody’s favorite word??
I was obsessed when this came out in theaters. I had a lot of the kids books and a Flik action figure that had his harvester machine.
Yeah, this and Antz came out the same year… 1998. Antz came out first even though Bug’s Life was created first
I'm glad you watched this and I hope Jen gives it another chance. I really enjoy this underrated gem and their story revision to the "Seven Samurai" theme. There is also a lot of incredibly underrated star power of voice acting including Roddy McDowall, Madeline Kahn, Phyllis Diller, & Edie McClurg to name just a few. And let us never forget Jonathan Harris - "Oh the pain!"
Exactly! I left a comment explaining that reference to them-I doubt either one knows lost in space
@@SJHFoto Yeah. Them not recognizing the iconic Dr. Smith "Oh the pain!" reference made me feel a bit sad.
I think Jen would really like the Pixar Shorts. They’re always a pleasure to experience no matter how many times I’ve seen them.
Seeing this thumbnail on my feed made me smile so much, I love this movie!
This movie was showing in the model home family room when my parents were looking for a house. Us kids would just stay there and watch this movie while they went looking at the houses in the subdivision. This movie brings back those memories every time I watch it.
This was my kids' favorite movie growing up. I've watched it sooo many times. But a movie I'll never tire of.
This is by far Pixar's most underrated film in their franchise. It's actually one of my top 10 favorite Pixar Movies. Really glad you guys react to this one! Ps. I really hope you guys react to AntZ in the future!!!
And “underrated” is the most overused word in the English language now. I have no idea when “underrated” became everybody’s favorite word particularly on UA-cam. But it’s annoying as hell
@@nsasupporter7557 And?
@@nsasupporter7557Okay.
Just realised the story is basically Seven Samurai. The farmers (ants) are terrorised by the bandits (grasshoppers) who continue to extort them for rice (whatever the crop was in this movie). The farmers are then fed up with the extortion and enlist the help of the samurai (circus troupe) to fight back.
The biggest difference is that this actually had a happy ending.
My late friend and I discussed this movie along with Seven Samurai and Magnificent 7 in the podcast we used to do. Fun movie.
Such an underappreciated movie. Glad to know there's someone out there willing to give it a look nowadays 😊
Oof, the emotional beats of this movie still hit! I loved this movie as a kid on DVD and love quoting it!❤
Anyone ever heard of William Joyce he has worked on this movie and Toy Story as an animation worker or something in fact you should react to meet the Robinsons because he’s worked on that too also did wrote a book about it as well
Geeez this one was great for its time and I can see how the animation and other aspects may have aged but this brought back a lot of memories. I had this on vhs back as a kid and remember loving it for what it was as a kid. Now as an adult there’s many more jokes to enjoy (as to be expected from earlier Pixar)
4:56 Well, Hopper's at least descent enough to honor a promise he made to his mother.
I’m sure someone else must have commented on it by now. But if you look at how Antz came to be, you’ll find a story of disgruntled ex-Disney executive who was in the know about Pixar’s next film after Toy Story. John Katzenberg is the definition of cut throat business. His story post Disney is wild! Definitely worth exploring. He also is most likely to blame for the “Black Friday reel” of Toy Story. Anyway! Great reaction, surprised by Jen’s review, but I do like a divisive end result!
And in my generation, Don Bluth (another disgruntled Disney person) made The Secret of Nimh. The book was better, but the visuals (all hand drawn) are STUNNING!
I watched this movie every week for years as a kid. It's quite close to my heart, but I haven't seen it in a very long time.
Basically, if Pixar did their take on "Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven" but with insects.
Except for warriors the main character brings back circus entertainers.
At least they didn't all die. Actually, my favourite Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven homage from my childhood (a GenXer) is Battle Beyond the Stars
@SJHFoto One of my favorite homages was Star Wars Clone Wars S2 E17 "Bounty Hunters"
@@Delta-sj9dy Sorry, I never saw it. I don't watch Disney SW, or the Clone Wars.
I wish they still did the bloopers at the end of their movies, they always get a chuckle out of me. Hopefully if they do it will still feel authentic and not like they are trying to copy the authentic feel these classic movies had
For a while I thought by "Antz" Holden meant "The Ant Bully" 😂😂 Out of these 3 films I'm actually unsure which I've seen as a child
I love this film. It’s definitely not talked about enough. I love every character in it.
I have to ask how has Jen not seen all these great animated movies??
Has she been under a rock before she met you? 😂
she is a hater she was not born in the old school days she was born in 2002 or maybe 2019 i bet her mom and dad dotn let her watch these movies she prombley watching future lame movie she might be in ur 20's she dont need to be under a rock she is the rock with a ant brain 0% braincells
She said in some videos that she didn't have a happy childhood. I don't know exactly what that entails, but suffice it to say she didn't see a lot of films
One of the things about this movie that I remember the most is that Nsync's song " Here we Go" would play in the commercials.
One of my childhood favorites. I watched this and Antz all the time. 💚
As a kid I always thought “The ant bully” was the best big film.
I haven’t seen this in decades, but I remember Hopper being unnecessarily terrifying for this movie 😅
Geri from Geri’s Game and Toy Story 2 wasn’t even the conspiracy part, though. That literally just is the same character.
I do miss Pixar bloopers it just makes the scenes more funnier, wonder what Elemental, or Luca's bloopers will be like
It’s an animated seven samurai/magnificent seven
It's funny that a bug's life was released in November 1998, after Antz was released in October as the same year.
Now yall are watching these classics, a bunch of movies are flooding to mind. Including Horton hears a who. Have you guys watched this yet?!?!?!
The GAP hoodie! I was not prepared.
Even in 2024, 26 years later, A Bug's Life is still memorable.
I definitely vote for an aunt's episode. I think Jen would like that more than a bug's Life
Dave Foley isn't "the guy from Blast From the Past"; he's "the guy from Kids in the Hall and Newsradio".
I still have the cassette read-along for this
grew up watching this and love it
A Bug's Life/Antz is the animated version of Armageddon/Deep Impact. I loved Antz's Starship Troopers spoof, but other than that all I can remember about that movie is Sylvester Stallone. Lol
Woody Allen
The guy from Home Improvement?@@jkhoover
This is probably one of my Pixar faves. It is actually loosely based on the 1954 movie Seven Samurai.
Weird how there exist two animated films released in 1998 where a character mishears "No!" as "Go!", the other being _The Rugrats Movie._
“Shutting up.” 😂😂
This is the first film I can remember going to see in the cinema!
Have they watched Wall-E yet?!?!🤔 Little unknown fact, the guy who voices the flea (ringleader of the circus) has voiced in EVERY Pixar film
My favourite Pixar movie and second fave movie overall after Lion King. Loved the PS1 game too!
Pixar does the Magnificent 7 !!😄
Antz is like an animated Starship Troopers for kids lol
Omg intro helped remind me of that movie Ants that and unlocked some memories I forgot until now. Also the short about the guy playing chess I vaguely remember it! I miss the “bugs life” attraction at disneys California adventure! I just found old camcorder footage of when i was a child riding the rides
What we expected: A movie about bugs
What we got: SOCIALISM!
Geri from Geri’s Game being the same guy who repaired Woody is basically common knowledge
As a kid watching Antz for the first time I remember it being one of the more brutal films for an animation, compared to what I was custom to.
I love this movie! It’s super underrated and it’s on the top of my list of Pixar films.
I like that you changed the channel name to Holden and Jen Hardman it’s very sweet for UA-cam’s greatest super couple.
I loved this movie, I also loved the short that came on the DVD with the old guy playing chess
Again, this is my knowledge as an oldster, but the mantis saying "the pain, the pain" was an homage to the voice actor's role as Dr Smith in Lost in Space in the 60s. This was also Roddy McDowell's last film. He was one of the few child actors (from the 40s) who transitioned to adult acting. He's best known for National Velvet as a child actor, and Planet of the Apes (the original series) as an adult. I also know him as one of the baddies from The Cat From Outer Space (you can actually see what he looks like there). This is also Madelin Kahn's last film (she was the "straight man" from What's Up Doc?) I guess you guys have no idea of any of these actors. Actually, all of those shows were from before I was born too, but we Gen Xer watched films and shows from before our time, and young ones today barely watch anything from a time before they were born
Wow, harsh call there by Jen.... yeh each to their own, I guess.
Really liked this movie when it was at the cinema and loved bloopers at the end..... definitely a favourite. :)
Seeing the reactions again, the Caterpillar guy is the favourite character for me.... so funny "Look, I'm a beautiful butterfly!"
Hilarious :)
My little cousin was a huge fan of Hopper 😂 he was like 4 or 5 when this movie came out. It wasn’t considered scary at all for the kids back then.
He even had one of those motion detecting talking Hopper dolls😂😂😂
Hands down my favorite bloopers on a pixar movie
Looking back on this film seeing it as a child originally. I think I had nightmares from it. Still a fun movie regardless. 👏😅
I had the toy of hopper as a kid and broke off one of his antenna to match ending haha super nostalgic movie for us 90’s kids aye
A bugs life is underrated. You should watch COCO and INSIDE OUT next!
I think this is the first full lenth movie that wasn't a TV show episode I saw, it in Pre School, im 18 now.
Dude, the guy playing chess against himself has literally the same character design as the doll doctor. It’s not a conspiracy theory. Whether they intended it to be the same person is another matter but it’s exactly the same character visually.
I’m glad you guys know Blast from the Past, but I’m sad we won’t get to see you react to it 😅
Those grasshoppers had me scared as a kid 😢😂
Another classic Disney Pixar when I was a kid also I remember that Thumper used to scare me.
I've never seen a bugs life, so I enjoyed reacting to it with yall. It reminded me of Over the hedge. And I think Jen would love Antz and The Bee Movie
ANTZ IS FOR ADULTS AND ITS SO GOOD! Re watch it pls I promise it’s a better watch as a adult
It sucks that Pixar and Dreamworks were always copying eachother… when it comes to entertainment there’s always competition
Loved this movie as a kid but for some reason Antz just always resonated with me more than a bugs life
Hopper is the scariest Pixar bad guy
I was waiting for y’all to drop the next Pixar reaction so I could recommend a bugs life 😂
An Underrated Pixar movie in dire need of a sequel
No it doesn’t! First of all, stop saying “underrated,” that word is literally dead because it’s so overused. Secondly we do not need anymore sequels! People need to start using their brains more often and realize that more sequels is a bad idea
Actually rewatched this a couple months ago 😂
I've always loved this movie and think it actually goes quite well with Antz. I really hope you wind up watching that one as well. And Heimlich is one of my favorite Pixar characters. Period.
Just finished watching this movie just to see your reaction video.
This was my first movie ever in a theatre. I was only 3 years old at the time
It's weird that they animated the chicks as fuzzy. Most wild baby birds hatch naked and depend on the warmth of their mother, and the nest filled with grass and feathers when she's gone. And when their mother returns to the nest with food, they open their mouths very wide and mostly stay like that, instead of leaping and pecking. Google them, they actually look really creepy. It would've been a less cute end for Hopper.
