This movie tackles many things. Death, single fathers, physically disabled, mental disorders, addiction, don’t judge book by its cover, and many more. Truly a fav of mine from Pixar

When this came out, I was working at McDonald's. This woman came in with her young daughter. She was trying to get her daughter to agree to getting a fish filet. The daughter looked at her & very clearly said, "Fish are friends, not food." The look on Mom's face was just a mix of absolute exasperation & abject failure. Poor mom knew she lost that battle. I don't remember what her daughter got but it wasn't fish.
This is the cartoon that started my daughter’s love of Disney. She is Autistic and this was her first visit to a theatre. She laughed the whole time. 20 years later and it’s still her favorite behind Toy Story. She loves all things Disney.
Great choice, Leo.. The sequel, "Finding Dory", is also a pretty great film. I'd also like to recommend my two personal fave Disney/Pixar films: "Zootopia" and "Inside Out". I'm sure you'd enjoy them both. Have a great day 😁
My son is four and currently obsessed with this movie. Just watched it twice earlier today. Now that I’m a dad, when Marlin finally finds Nemo I tear up every time 😂
about 10 years ago I was going through so personal issues & wasn't sure the direction my life was going. I happened to watch this movie on a whim. when dory said the line "just keep swimming" it triggered something in my mind that made everything seem ok. I knew things weren't great at the time, but I was still alive & kicking, & all I needed to do was just keep swimming & everything will be ok. that's also why I have a tattoo of dory & the line just keep swimming to keep me going
Aquariums might seem cruel, but most fish in pet stores were never in the wild. They're bred in captivity and so all they know are aquariums. As long as you properly stock your tank and stay on top of water changes and cleaning, you can give them a great little home safe from natural predators. They even start to recognize you and get excited when you're about to feed them.
My husband and I had a glorious 75 gallon reef tank and we had a blue tang like Dory. It got to the point it wasn't afraid of us and we could even feed it by hand. And our clownfish started laying eggs. We scrambled to set up a nursery for them and put in the work to catch the babies when they hatched. It was a lot of work, but it was so rewarding. Every time we brought clownfish babies into the store where we bought everything we had, they were impressed with how healthy the babies were, and they sold like hot cakes. It was so much fun. We got rid of everything when we moved to a place where keeping up on it would have been impossible, but I don't ever regret having that tank.
Taking wild fish into an aquarium without quarantining it is actually a big no-no in the hobby. Some aquarium fish don't even exist in the wild. There is no scenario where fish from a pet store have a better life than a well kept aquarium. Releasing them into the wild will either kill them, or result in them breeding and damaging the local native ecosystem the way released goldfish and plecos tend to.

There's a fun attraction at Disneyland called "Turtle Time With Crush". It's a small theater with an area for kids down in front, and a big "glass" screen, that looks like it has the ocean on the other side. They've got a microphone designed for use under water hanging on the other side, so that you can hear the fish. And of course Crush, the sea turtle, comes to chat and check out what's in the human tank. It's completely interactive, with a person on the other end who's really good at improv, and some kind of digital puppetry to make Crush look alive. So for an adult the real fun of it is seeing some of the more unusual interactions between Crush and the little kids. One of my favorites was when Crush was talking about his favorite foods, and asked a little girl, probably no older than 4, what hers was. She said "shooshi". Crush looked confused and asked "What's shooshi"? Well of course, us adults all knew what sushi is, so there was a huge undercurrent of "oh, no!" going through the theater. Like, quick, change the subject! If you ever have a chance to go to Disneyland (and make sure it's for more than one day, so you can see everything you want to) I definitely recommend checking it out, it's always a fun experience.
