This ep really reminded me of one of my biggest gripes with ds1. The bonfires are so poorly spaced. You'd have two that you could walk between in about a minute, then the next two would require you to defeat two bosses, unlock a shortcut, sell your firstborn, then you could get to another bonfire that you unlocked earlier.
I still love that a rare early game drop has dictated the whole game- That black knight halberd is dope and an easy pick for investing materials and souls into.
I think in a way it's almost a shame bc the BKH is kinda OP and makes Julia miss a lot of fun content/challenge by one-shotting everything - and makes it harder to learn the lessons the game is trying to teach her because she can brute force almost everything. Plus she can't one-hand it so her whole playstyle had to change (I really enjoyed her trying to parry everything). But at the end of the day if she's having fun with it then that's great, I just kinda wish I could see the version of this playthrough where she wasn't steered into using it.
I want everyone, especially Jacob, to know that I haven't gotten round to watching the rest of the Dark Souls playthrough, but I just had to click on this banger of a thumbnail. Khaz you really out-did yourself. EDIT: ALSO IVE BEEN COOKIN JULIA'S MUM'S SOUP AND IT IS DELICIOSO
I know we aren't supposed to backseat but as someone who has played all of the games in this franchise a total of 0 times, I think you are doing great Julia. Keep up the great work. (Note: I have never seen any playthrough of this franchise except this one and has never played any of the games in this series)
This week, thanks to this series, I beat Dark Souls 1 for the very first time. Just started DS2. Officially hooked. Thanks Julia, Jacob and Granny Smith!
Hope you have fun with DS2, it's a unique game with a lot to offer. But if it doesn't turn out to be your thing, just know that DS3 is a lot more similar to DS1 and doesn't really depend heavily on the story of DS2 :)
Thanks everyone! I see what folks mean about DS2 so far. When I said I'm hooked, I mean more to the idea of Soulsborne games, which previously I had never been able to get into. I think I'll get through DS2 no problem, but it does feel... kind of like a knockoff game? Like it's good, but something is missing. I am very much looking forward to DS3 after that, which I also picked up.
Jacob: "this cat is so alseep..." Everyone:"..." Me: How asleep is it? Jacob? Hello? Did you have a joke planned or was it just a statement on Joy's level of sleep?
I'm very excited to see Jacob play Elden Ring on stream after his first play through. One of the best parts about Fromsoft games is comparing notes after first play throughs. I remembered a friend telling me about Nameless King after I beat ds3 and I was like "Thats not real" and then actually finding it and getting my butt kicked by Nameless King was such a cool experience.
That is my biggest struggle with all of the monster hunter games! When they limp and make sad noises I feel so baaaaad 😭 I capture literally everything I possibly can
Noooo same 😭 when I first started playing I found capturing annoying but now it’s the only way I complete quests and even more with expeditions. Really wish capturing elders was a thing cuz oh man the amount of times I hunted gore magala I feel so bad 😭😭😭
45:57 I JUST REALIZED Sif's fight probably takes place either at the spot there is the first bonfire, or in the clearing where you fight the first boss, in the Artorias of the Abyss DLC!
50:08 Me: What a thrill.... With darkness and silence through the night.. What a thrill ... I'm searching and i'll melt into you... What a fear in my heart! But you're soo supreeeeeme! I give m-- Jacob: tHiS LaDder iS SoO LoOong! Me: Bruh, just..... just....
SHE FINALLY KILLED THE FUCKING TREE!!! Thank you. I genuinely thought she might go any entire playthrough without killing the only enemy that doesn't fight back.
It's probably good I couldn't watch this live due to timezones. Bc it would have been very hard for me to not try and help and tell them how to get to the darkroot forest... I mean like: (spoiler warning) . . . . They literally walked right by Andre the Blacksmith, Julia says 'I don't need you anymore', and they walk up to the door they need to go through, missing the key... which Andre sells... 😂 That's not a diss on Julia btw, obviously no way for her to know that, also easy for Jacob to forget. I just found it very funny in an ironic way, that Julia ends up going out of her we to say 'I don't need you' to the one person they need to get to the boss 😛
I work in a library and can confidently say that the lone crystal boys somehow imprisoned are absolutely there bc they dogeared too many pages or left their books in a school bag full of rotting fruit. If I had access to a prison within the library lemme tell you lol
OBJECTION! It didn't happen to me, I just fought it on the ground I could see But to be fair I played on the xbox 360 version where you could see the line where the ground cut off underwater
After several souls, of any amount of darkness you wanted to have, you would have... Your soul. You would dark the soul of the soul of dark that you are actually dark soul today.
Are they saying channeler or Chandler? I honestly can't tell. It makes sense if it was channeler since they channel and shoot energy, but it could also be a joke to call them Chandlers
Julia really adamantly refusing to fight sif but he doesn't even make any sad dog sounds... Only limps towards the end of the fight. I predict she will watch and realize she could have done that fight. I also predict Jacob doesn't win that fight first try.
Okay I'm not watching this right now because I only just started catching up on the Dark Souls streams but I have to know if the title is a C Team reference!!?
What is the song they are referencing when singing "sif is the way" if anybody knows lol. it unlocked a memory i had locked away lol, but i don't know what that song is
I really wish Jacob would tell her about kindling, I feel like it’s another super useful mechanic the game doesn’t really explain, like the shield damage reduction or the location of some of the optional bosses. Sorry if that’s backseating

Thank you for the timestamps! The Sif fight hurts my heart.
"all bosses are here to teach us something"
"Sif teaches us how to be sad"
Drawfee has destroyed me, when Jacob said the hydra only did 2 things I thought, "eat hot chip and lie?"
*enlightened
There fixed it. Lol 😁
I thought spit water eat hot chip and lie.
“You thought you could hide over here you jerk? I figured out stairs!” has gotta be my fave Julia quote of the stream thus far
Fun fact, "Sif" is what happens when you spell "Dog" but have your hands one key to the left on a QWERTY keyboard.
Huh, so it is
HUH
-Khaztaroth
This is wild information
you have blown my mind
...well shit
I'm imagining a dark soul, I'm rotating it in my mind
Blorbo from my streams
Woah dude
Man I wish I could, but I have aphantasia so I only get vague glimpses of a conceptual dark soul.

I love how when either of them makes a bad joke they either double down and support the other or are like "what the fuck was that?" I love it.

"Stop accepting death, you have so much health!!!" lmao
Strangely inspiring quote ☺️

the only place i can really think about that being a problem in in dark souls 1 is catacombs. maybe ash lake if you go there pre-lordvessel?
"She is the luckiest girl in the world!" _dies immediately_

Julia: "I cant kill dogs."
Also Julia: "Where are the freaking cats? I'll smack 'em."
to be fair, the Limp Bizkit cats are far more monstrous. Sif is just a Hecking big doggo.
To her defence the "cats" don't make cute n sad noises. They don't even purr...
Edit : and they don't limp at low health
Also, Sif fights you because she HAS to, the cats fight you because they WANT to.

Yeah I was like "wish I had a grandma that didnt suck" lol

In fairness to Jacob's Bengals joke, the Bengals cheerleaders are called the Ben-Gals
Honestly these Dark souls streams have been the highlights of my week
People going into stream with messages for Julia's mom is so wholesome to me for some reason
"she's the luckiest girl in the world" *gets shot in the back and dies*
I watch the VODS on my tv while I knit or embroider, so every so often I have to come through and slam the like button for every video on my phone...
The last little bit of game play is _peak_ julia omg. holy shit I am dying
I think the funniest part of this stream is that they went the longest possible route to Sif lol
Julia should look up the music for Sif's fight. It's one of my favorites and was a contender for my senior year ensemble piece in high school band
Jacob: "this cat is so alseep..."
Everyone:"..."
Me: How asleep is it?
Jacob?
Hello?
Did you have a joke planned or was it just a statement on Joy's level of sleep?
Is Jacob really out here using his phone without a case? What an absolute madman.
There needs to be one npc in the library (one of the enemies would be good) just shooshing as it reads.
