There's actually a way to tell if a chest is a mimic or a normal chest, without stabbing it. If you try to open it and it eats you, it's a mimic. If you open it and it doesn't try to kill you, it's probably a normal chest
The real answer to this is look at the chain. Mimic chains are straighter and face more towards you and legit chests have curved chains that face away.

I am so proud of Julia for pushing through backseat hell (the real hardest boss) and continuing with her Dark Souls journey. I was really bummed out after last time, but seeing the pure joy of her face again when she gets to go at her own pace is wonderful ^_^

There's something about playing Dark Souls on a stream that confers some kind of power to people. I was streaming it over a year ago and made it through the Anor Londo archer section on the first try, never died in Blightown, and beat Ornstien and Smough on the first attempt. I have not repeated any of these things before or since.
Julia's playing puts me to shame sometimes lmao. I could never imagine my first run without some guide or walkthrough and especially without the help of the npc spawns? Insane. She's doing an amazing job and it's so much fun to watch.

BKH is specifically good vs large humanoid bosses like Orinstein because its light attack is a downward slice, so it hits enemies on the head, which staggers instantly. its not iust about the damage, the weapon has insane crowd control. you can perma stunlock Quelaag with it and beat her in 10 seconds if you time it right.
The weapon definitely seemed to decide this fight, but I absolutely felt the same when it came to shit like her just parrying all over the Undead Burg.
Is anyone else kind of infatuated with Granny Smith's outfit? Just as a piece of character-design, with the ornate halberd and the simple, tattered robes--it all just screams Grimm Reaper and I love it. I want Julia to draw that character-concept, if she hasn't already.

I've got to say I disagree with Jacob about the later games losing their weirdness. I think it's more just that we get used to Dark Souls' specific brand of weird with each consecutive entry in the series. By Dark Souls III, hitting a giant tree's crotch eggs to kill the mutant, bodiless arm inside is par for the course.

I always get so lost in the catacombs. I didn't even know you could go that way around. I always fall through into the area behind the wall that Julia dies to the wheelie boys at at the end of this stream. I'm only now realising that whenever I go through that way, I'm going backwards.
almost sad they aren't playing with online aspects. one of the hardest laughs I've had is walking into this room at 1:01:50 and reading a message that said "Great Chest Ahead"

Yeah, the weapon helps a lot, but you have to work to get to those levels and nothing matters if you don't know how to use it. For me, I can't play the game mid rolling (much less, heavy rolling), but I raher use a weaker weapon than to lose those 40 points of poise. The Wolf Ring is the only item I use in all but a few playthroughs. FaP is a trap, for me. The ring is freaking amazing and the threat of breaking makes it like you have no choice but use it for the rest of the game. I don't have much experience with Demon Souls, but here, some rings are really powerful. Havel, Cloranthy, Bellowing Dragon. All of them crazy helpful. I've been using the Ring of Fog and Slumbering Dragon, just for fun, and they work wonders. You become a ghost, basically. Loved to see the two cats, finally.

Dark Souls is one of my favourite games of all time, and I've lost count of the number of game cycles I've finished over three different consoles (360, xbone, and switch), and I've got to say I'm seriously impressed at how Julia handles the game. My first playthrough I was a mess, and O&S buttered my bread to no end. Much love to Jacob and Julia, this is one of my favourite series y'all have done! It's awesome getting to see a new player learn the game, it makes me incredibly nostalgic for the first time I made it through DS1. :)
It's not the end of the world, but not resurrecting the fire keeper makes doing new Londo ruins SO MUCH more annoying. There's no bonfires in that entire area, so firelink is suppose to be your single respawn point for the entirety of the most annoying area in the game not named blight town. And now she's gonna have to use Andre as that spawn point, and warp to firelink every time the ghosts kill her.
What about resting at the Lordvessel and then warping to Firelink? It’s basically the same number of steps, but it looks like one gets a full 10 estus by resting there (I don’t recall how many you get at the Parish/by Andre).
@@malogranatum4914 by default it gives you 5. But because Julia has the right of kindling from killing pinwheel, she can kindle any bonfire up to 20. And it only costs 4 humanity, which she never uses anyway. So I really don't see why she's not doing it.

The tragedy with this game is how royally fucked one gets by not looking anything up. Like, it's hard to even think of it as just perks or bonuses; there are just so many things that make an enormous difference to how hard everything is, but the game either barely, vaguely hints at something one time or doesn't give a single hint about it at all. You'd have to go at the whole game several playthroughs over in full QA mode just to find half the things a new player looks up on their first run. Hell, like a third of the bonfires, ie the fucking checkpoints, in the game are missable or outright hidden.

And playing through it again i realized how much you can figure out if you pay careful attention and explore thoroughly. But yeah, even then, some things youd have to figure out by luck or by looking it up lol.
