I always struggled with cutting off the blooms, but after watching you last year I trimmed mine up, and what a difference, the plants really bounced back and bloomed vigorously again.Thank you Laura for all of your advice and inspiration.
Trimming baskets - or any annuals - has been hard for me until I watched you do it as you planted out a bed in a video. It makes sense and your results were much fuller plants. Very encouraging. I love the self-cleaning PW selections. Definitely seeking these out this season! Love your channel!
I learned to trim our hanging baskets last year. What a difference it made in my baskets! It really is important if you want full and pretty baskets! Here's to a great gardening summer, Laura! 😁
I cut some length off this year for the first time ever and it works! My basket has never looked so full and beautiful. In fact, the top is now regenerating and doesn’t look flat anymore!!! Thank you so much for the PUSH to trim me up! 🤗
Hi Laura! Thank you so much for this video. I struggle with hanging containers about half way through the season. I've never thought of fertilizing them so often, or trimming them. I will definitely do that this year. Your videos are so helpful! Can't thank you enough!
This is my first year designing my hanging baskets. Thank you for the inspiration. Also for the tips on how many plants can go in one. You are fabulous.
I’m from Northeastern Pennsylvania , I’m in the Cooler climate! I’m going to do my deck in a display which is Sun, and my front is facing north! Thank you for the information, The hanging baskets are beautiful. Thank you Laura🌺💙
I have always had trouble with hanging plants thank you for the information on maintenance for them also I have been planting containers with supertunias and I am very pleased with how they are growing I just received PW water fertilizer thank you Laura for all the videos!
Oh those baskets are so pretty. I have been thinking of trying some outside our classroom at the edge of the porch,. Thanks for the informative coffee with Laura video as I am going to bring up this idea at work!!!!
UA-cam is so weird. Yours is the only channel I subscribe to that UA-cam gives me multiple alerts for new videos. Really wants me to watch, lol! No worries though, I love to watch your videos.
Would ❤️ for you to do a video on planter boxes. I have wooden ones without holes and I’m wondering if I should use a liner as not to rot the wood - should I drill holes - how to care for wooden boxes - should I apply a stain. Thanks for another great video.
Hey Laura, didn't you once say you also reapply the slow-release fertilizer every four to six weeks? Is that correct? If so, do you skip the weekly fertilizing (with the water-soluble fertilizer) that week or do you do both (since the slow-release is heat-activated)?
Great tips on hanging baskets, I'm going to try all of them and hopefully this year I will have gorgeous baskets. Thanks so much for these videos Laura,it has been fun and informative.
Explaining the use of BOTH water soluble and slow release fertilizers answers a big question for me! I thought that might be over doing it. These plants are hungry and I want the best blooms and foliage possible.
Just getting ready to put some hanging baskets together so this advise is super great for me right now. Your advice is always to the point and easy to understand. Best gardening videos on UA-cam hands down!
For the first time ever this year a basket with Bubblegum Supertunias and a pot with Lemon Slice Superbells came back YAY!! I have already starting feeding weekly but I did not apply a slow release fertilizer this year should I do that?
Hey guys , Love the videos ! Great job everyone ! I just tried to get the plant food but they don't ship to Canada , bummer . I'll look for something local , but like you get a slow release and a water soluble food . In case anyone is interested I bought a Goldfish Plant today . Very exciting for me ! LOL xo
Hi! I'm new to your channel and just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos! You're so cheerful, artistic and obviously an expert gardener. Thanks for the lovely videos.
Do you pinch to encourage fullness or is just trimming it back have the same effect. I’ve avoided hanging baskets because I just needed your wonderful guidance on picking plants, how to plant it and how to feed and water them . I’m hoping to have baskets that rival your hay racks last year. Thanks for everything!!
You do not have to "pinch" or "dead head" Supertunias. The trimming back thing Laura does once, midseason. The whole point (benefit) in buying the Supertunias is so that you never have to deadhead them. I can't believe anyone ever grew petunias before these hit the market. I couldn't imagine individually pinching dozens of blooms off a plant.
You have the BEST videos! I am just getting into gardening and your videos are helping me so much! Thank you! Just wish you would talk a bit slower please.
Hi there, can you recommend a good fertiliser to encourage blooms to open, some of my plants are a little slow to open this year and not sure why. Any help you could give would be great! TIA
Does anyone know what the burgundy flowers are in the basket on the left. I know what the superbells are, just can't make out what the burgundy ones are. I like this combination.
Hi from KS. I love the hanging basket with the red (?) and yellow Petunias just over your right shoulder. What other plants do you have in that basket? I can't tell on my screen. Thanks.
Question, please answer if you can. I'm a novice at all of this and have purchased my first home where I can actually do whatever I want to do. In addition to that I have moved to a different climate. Was in Las Vegas and now in the high sierra's. The front of my home faces south west (more towards the west) and my little garden bed out front only gets sun from 2 or 3pm thru the rest of the day. I dont know what type of plants I should be trying to put in there. Shade? Part sun? Part sun seems to be the answer but a lot of plants that I like , I have looked up and eventhough they are classified as "part sun" it says that they do best in part or full sun. I'm so confused! What should I be looking for?
My Life My Smile a lot of gardening is trial and error. Don’t live in confusion! Just pick a plant, plant it and see how it performs. If it dies or isn’t really thriving, try something else until you get a combination that works for you! What are some native flowers that grow where you live? Try those and see what works. I can see the sierras from my house and now I’ll wonder how your garden is when I look at them 😂
hi, Laura thanks for all the great info and advice. Also I wonder why the Proven Winner water soluble you showed this vlog is color green and your other vlog the color is blue, but they all say the same as proven winner water soluble fertilizer...thanks
Hi Laura I bought a hanging basket with the plastic lining for Mother's day. The person who sold it to me said it was a great feature. Should I try to put a hole in it? I don't want to give my stepmom the basket if it's going to possibly rot.
Sometimes those plastic liners already have small holes in them like the size of a paper-punch hole. But the plastic helps to retain a bit more moisture than the coco-coir liner. The best way to tell is to give it a big drink of water and see if any comes out the bottom.
Mine get very dried in the under part of hanging basket. They may look OK but hold the flower stems up and they are crunchy brown. What is the problem? TIA.
I didn't know they could use so much fertilizing as a slow release - * plus * - a weekly feeding! I've let mine nearly dry out in between too, thinking they need that so they don't rot!
It depends on the plants but most do like to dry out a little before watering again, if your basket is too wet you will drown the roots and cause them to rot
Some of the Supertunias do not like a lot of water. I think the Bordeaux and the Blue Velvet are two that don't like it while the Limoncello, Latte and Bubble Gum variety will take whatever you throw at it. At least that seems to be what I observe from Laura's videos.
I'm really enjoying these videos, I've only been watching a couple of months, so I go back and watch older ones when there's time. I'm getting confused though. Is the triangle garden gone and the veggie garden and new brick path where it used to be? Did the driveway shift? What happened to the old white archway there? Anyone? 😬😄
The vegetable garden is still there. It's at the end of the new brick walkway. Here's a link to the July 2018 Garden Tour drone shot of the property. The new brick walkway isn't there (obviously, since they just did that) but you can get a better idea of where things are and just how very beautiful their property is: ua-cam.com/video/phPKnU-kuLc/v-deo.html
I live in The Dallas-Fort Worth area. I bought some Supertunias and have followed all your tips but I am not getting good growth yet. We are in our rainy season so the temps have not been consistently high. Does the temperature affect the growth of Supertunias?
I've noticed her supertunias start to really perform in the summer months. Late June, early July, they start to look amazing so yeah, maybe it's too soon.
BTW I have just now starting to see the “Surpertunia Vista” series at our local Home Depot. Unfortunately I can’t find the water soluble or slow release fertilizer anywhere locally. I’ve opted to use Jacks water soluble fertilizer. Anyone have good success with it? I know I can buy PW fertilizer on-line but I would prefer to skip the shipping cost. Thanks
I used the coco liners, when I water it goes right through the liner. Is it because I bought the cheap kind? I planted just creeping jennies and their dying.
Maybe. Laura has said that the cheaper liners aren't worth it. Here, watch this. She goes over the basket, the liner and the plants. ua-cam.com/video/QqW9gCdoFJ4/v-deo.html

I think you should poke a hole in it if it is going outside. Otherwise, it will overflow or the plants will sit in too much water.
@@cathybranly1839 , and if she puts it outside, pay attention to what's underneath it, because it's gonna get wet, lol.
