Sure thing NOFX was around a long time before Green Day was, so no NOFX is not a Green Day cover band, ElHefe could wipe the floor on Billie Joe when it comes to guitar playing and Dropkick Murphy’s are far more talented band than Green Day will ever be.

Any band from the germs to the exploited all have that aggressive vocal even though they don’t sound the same you can tell they are in the same genre. Ramones - considered punk pioneers, but do have incredibly poppy elements
Green Day - considered pop punk
NOFX - their discography covers a few different sounds, but Punk in Drublic is very poppy.
Misfits - horror punk, but have a FEW poppy elements to them (this choice is a decent choice tbh)
Goldfinger - very poppy with ska elements
Dropkick Murphy's - decent choice
Rise Against - very mainstream band with some poppy elements.
Sum 41 - 100% pop punk
Motley Crue and The Strokes aren't even punk at all.

The problem that Daniel had to overcome though was choosing songs that sounded the same, or that were in the same key or tempo so that he could medley them, so props to Daniel regardless.

If you were gonna include “glam punk” I would’ve thought something like New York Dolls would be a better example. Mötley Crue is not a punk band at all. Great band nonetheless.

If anything, I'd consider them "indie punk" or something similar. Like Tickle Me Pink says they're punk, but they have an indie feel with punk elements

I agree. Their albums before Dookie were punk, but now they've sold out they've become more of a boy band than a punk band. Look at their new album coming out for example. No one can label that as punk

Yeah but to be honest a lot of their songs have some metal influences (some of the riffs and solos ) but still not punk metal compared to S/T. Hes just living in his little "pop" punk world along with knowing some of the classic punk bands like sex pistols or the clash.

One of the things I love about punk, as a genre, is how many subgenres there are and how different they can be. If someone doesn't like one subgenre then there's likely something else they'd like. Like for instance, for some reason I really am not a fan of horror punk, and yet I love skatepunk, hardcore punk, and other genres.
A couple more genres you didn't include that I wanna throw out there: folk punk (ex. days n daze) and crust punk (ex. leftöver crack). There's also other genres that have branched out from punk like riot grrrl and queercore that I personally still classfiy those as subgenres of punk.

There are punks who like jazz, but not "bebop jazz" because bebop is "rule based", and that goes against the spirit of punk, which is to disregard rules. I noticed the punks who like jazz only want "free jazz" which is the jazz that is "breaking rules", I think because it aligns with the spirit of punk.
Hard to find friends who want to both sound "punk" but at the same time "learn the rules" and play only bebop, because they're opposite states of mind. Either I meet people who are old jazz lovers who hate punk, or punks who hate old jazz standards.
But I really think those two concepts can be combined.

Sum 41 has always had metal undertones even in their early work despite being a pop punk band starting off , example grab the devil and f him up the ass and ride the chariot to the devil are pretty clear cut examples on their “first “ record on top of admitting it on the next album in the song fat lip “ maiden and priest were the gods that we praised “

Str8EdgeMatt one can debate that their early work was hardcore punk. Maybe more melodic hardcore since it was more modern but they kinda morphed into an all around “punk” band if you will. Which I like about them because they’ll write some commercial stuff but also still write the fast aggressive songs we all love
“Give It All” was a melodic hardcore song of there’s. “State of the union” straight up hardcore. They’ve certainly drifted into hardcore territory but really are punk rock for the most part.

They're definitely hardcore punk, but they're a horrible example, as they don't really definitely fit into the genre as well as a band such as, say, dead Kennedys does. It's like using a Gorillaz song to represent what hip hop is supposed to sound like.

Ben Parsons I’ve heard their new album and it is very pop-punk. It’s just the way that the guy preformed “I Wanna be Sedated” that made it seem more pop influenced that “Basket Case”. I think that both Ramones and Greenday have a lot of pop influence and that a different song might have suited the punk rock catagory, as the Ramones have a lot of bubble gum punk and do-wop influence.

Indie is a genre I go to music college and there is a student label dedicated to purely indie music, it is also a genre due to it having its own category in most streaming sites, nowadays genres are decided by popularity not technicality.

I just realized that there was a lot of punk in the mainstream in the 2000s and it reminds me of my teens. I even remember hearing the oldies a lot.

Story of Motley Crue while punk
Motley Crue was formed in 1980 by bassist Nikki Sixx Later Joined by Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Vince Neil. With their 1981 album “Too Fast For Love” they were aiming for the punk rock genre. They made the Punk Rock genre on that album. Later in 1983 they released their sophomore album “Shot At The Devil”. However, rock band Quiet Riot created a genre called Hair Metal (also known as Glam Metal). With Crue’s looks, they didn’t made the Punk Rock Scene but however, they made the hair metal scene. That is the story.
This is pretty fucking awesome.
The only criticism I'd make in any way shape or form is that the way you sing makes a lot of the different genres sound like pop punk, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you play and sing insanely well
