How to make the A650e hold power! Building your Lexus IS300 Auto Transmission on a budget! DIY Video

  • This video uses the tutorial found on IS-Elite.com that walks us through the diy of how to build the automatic trans to hold boost. This is basically like putting a shift kit into the transmission. This modification will allow the transmission to hold more power, shift faster, and last longer under the stress of added power all on a budget. This mod is one of the cheapest things you can do to the valve body upgrade.
    Follow Andrew's build at / dthmtlsk8r
    This process will work on all Toyota A650E transmission out of the following cars from 1998 to 2005 and pretty much any rear wheel drive Lexus or Toyota.
    IS300, GS300, GS400, GS430, SC300, SC400, SC430, LS400, LS430, Altezza, Crown.
    The first three accumulators need to be shimmed 14-18 mm and the last one gets shimmed 8-12 mm.

    This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Will it shift hard? Yes absolutely because accumulators are designed to soften shifts HOWEVER making your transmission slam gear will do absolutely NOTHING to make it "hold more power". Will it chirp the tires? Maybe if that's what you want but be ready for clunky down shifting and a generally uncomfortable transmission for daily use. Also, making your transmission slam gears will do more to hurt internal parts than help them "hold more power".
    Also on a side note, pulling the transmission is 1000% unnecessary. All you did was pull the VB and shim the accumulators. WTF would you add several more hrs to a relatively easy 1.5hr maybe 2hr job?
    I suppose all of this was because I have a customer asking me to do this and somehow guarantee any of his bullshit.
    24yrs building transmissions btw

    So as long as I keep to a max of 18mm on the first three accumulators I should be okay right? How aggressive are they at 18mm? Also do you have to remove bellhousing bolts and torque converter to remove the main housing of transmission? Look like your example transmission doesn't have the bell housing connected to it. Thanks

    Great vids Stan keep up the good work! I have a few questions about the ecu setup for this mod. Is Cody using the factory ecu and a stand-alone together? Or just stand-alone? If he’s using the factory ecu what sensor inputs are still necessary to shift the trans?

    • @RacecarAndChill
      @RacecarAndChill  5 років тому +7

      His car has since been parted out. But when it was running, he had the stock ecu running the transmission and a standalone running his engine. The stock ecu pretty much just needs to see the throttle body to keep shifting the transmission. If you want to delete the stock throttle body to use a ffim setup or have your standalone run the throttle, what you can do is leave the stock throttle body wired into the trunk so the stock ECU still thinks it's running the engine.

      Yea probably. But if it's already slipping and you take the pan off, replacing that much fluid might make it slip worse. That's a tricky one. @@waltteripatronen4535 I like it, but at the same time it's a bit of a overkill for an LS. I think Ill be going to go back to stock and just live with a increased line pressure for now on my LS. However, I am loving it on my FJ Cruiser, I see a huge difference between shift times, tranny temperature, mind you my FJ is Supercharged putting down 432whp and the method was slightly different because that's a different transmission but with this video and a help of a friend I did it on my FJ Cruiser too.

    I own an automatic Altezza RS200, seems ljke it Should work. The accumulators look to be the same, but the transmission internals are different. Check out toyodiy.com and you can compare it to the gs300/is300 etc. The Altezza transmission is different internally. I wonder if this was because of the less torque from the BEAMS 3s-ge?

    • @RacecarAndChill
      @RacecarAndChill  2 роки тому

      You can keep the factory ecu to control the transmission if you have a standalone running your engine. My is300 is manual swapped, but if you wanted to build an auto car, you can use the stock ecu it comes with to shift the transmission and let the engine be run by a standalone. The stock ecu wil need to see the throttle body signals to shift the transmission.

      Taylor. I have a gs300 with the gte swap and I had an sc300 that has ur same problem it sounds like. First. U should look into having ur tps sensor adjusted. And idle air sensor. If they go bad or slip out of place they can make the lag between shifts horrible. What he's doing in this mod will shift even quicker than it will when it does once u fix it. But just remember not to shim the accumulator for the 2nd to 3rd shift to hard because that sprag is very weak in ur transmission
