Old video, but I'm surprised I didn't see in the comments, the WIX transmission filter kit for this car is really solid. I got that for my '04 GS430 and run Castrol TransMax ATF (import multi vehicle type), and I've had zero issues. Doing the valve body adjust today, it's been on 2 (the middle setting) for a while so I'm sure I'm safe to dial it up to 3.
Oh that was great seeing the valve body assembly opened up! Thanks. I wish you had shown the shift selenoid A, B, C etc. If you could point them out I would really appreciate it. That is if they're actually reside there. Thank you very much.
Also, just to add, for that cross brace that goes over the lip of the transmission pan, I used a 1/4 drive ratchet, short extension, and normal sized socket to access it. Had to use my fingers to get those two screws all the way out though, and also to start them. The other 2 on that lip (the corner ones) I could get to easily, but the two middle ones were a pain until I grabbed my little 1/4" ratchet, extension, and socket
Added to the TODO list on my new 300 :) Question for the audience: If there are any UK viewers here that have done this mod, what was the setting when you dropped the pan?
My '00 GS400 secret shift dial was set on the lowest (full CCW rotation) setting! I just set it to high (full CW rotation) during an AT fluid and filter change. I sure hope me and the transmission like the new setting, lol!
Crazy! You should be able to feel the difference, especially at around 75% throttle input through the first 3 gears (not sure why but that’s where I really felt the difference).
@@ForwardMomentum Damn, last night when I carefully put the transmission pan back on, full of gooey FIPG, I "missed" the fill spout connection. It took me about 4 hours today to unbolt the upper fill valve tube, insert it into the lower fill tube, and get the bolt back into the mounting flange and tighten it. I also stripped a threaded stud removing the left cat, in order to get access to the nightmare bolt, lol!
@@ForwardMomentum Lol, I'm trying to keep my attitude toward the GS400 positive. She just came down off of the jack stands after 5 weeks of repairs and maintenance, which included new engine mounts, new (used) rear diff (OG diff blew up!), new carrier bearing, new tranny fluid/filter/shift setting, and new exhaust gaskets. To fix the P0440, I dropped the gas tank and installed a new vent valve, over fill valve, tank-to-charcoal canister tubes, and a new gas fill tube. The test drive revealed that the new (used) rear diff works, and the engine idles smoother and “stays put” when the tranny engages. But there’s a light yet significant drivetrain shudder/vibration during acceleration between 20-30 mph at medium power. And when I parked and got out, I could smell gas from the rear DS wheel well. I suspect that moving the shift setting from “1” to “3” is causing the 20-30 mph vibration, so the pan (and 6 qts of fluid) will be dropped again, so I can access the shift pressure dial, and turn it back to “1”. The gas tank must also be dropped again, which means removing the exhaust, heat shields, driveshaft, and rear diff, which I just reinstalled, so that I can access the tank lines and charcoal canister. I blame 20 year old rubber, field mice, and the massive burnouts the previous owner enjoyed doing to my precious GS400.
@@drrock5356 oh man! That dial should have nothing to do with vibration. That sounds like the driveshaft to me. Seriously, I wouldn’t even bother with the dial; I promise you all it does is increase line pressure a little and that’s it.

Try the sway bar bushings too.
Forward Momentum alright man thanks 💪🏽
Its the knock bushing need to be change i change one of mine but the otherside started
Does this valve body modification work for the 6 speed transmission in the 04-06 ls430s?
VB upgrades are built to suit each trans. I’m sure IPT could get you what you need. 👊
Forward Momentum I guess what I’m asking is are the notches to increase the VB pressure on the stock valve body or the upgraded one? If it’s on the stock one, do you know if the 6 speed trans has it? I’m assuming your car is the older 5 speed.
@@jakedavis1085 gotcha. The 3 options are on all A650e transmissions as far as I know. I do not know if it exists on any other transmissions. I’m going manual so I don’t have to deal with this crap ever again. 🤣
Forward Momentum haha thanks for the info. I’ll drop the pan and see if it applies to the A761e tranny as well.
Do you recommend for a 99 gs300 about to hit 160k
Just depends on maintenance.
No maintenance that I know of I just topped off fluid. Fluid slightly dark but not burnt. I want to get the most out of it. So I'm open to all suggestions and tips
@@rubencapeles9642 maybe I’m missing your question. You already own it or you’re looking at one to buy? Either way, first and foremost, do the LBJs. Sankei 555 or OEM are regarded as the best.
I'm sorry I already own the car bought it used. I'm asking for suggestions and recommendations to get the most and best performance and if you recommend If I can do this at 160k miles
@@rubencapeles9642 cool. Check out my inspection episode. That will show you a few things to look for. Drain and fill all fluids, flush cooling system, timing belt, etc. Do the LBJs first!
So this is a650?
Correct.
@@ForwardMomentum okay thank you, im going to be swapping a new trans on my gs300 and this really helps, thinking of maybe throwing a higher stall torque converter aswell as trans cooler
is this safe to do with a Gs300 that has over 200k miles on it?
Of course.
Won't increasing the line pressure blow out the seals?
No. Remember, this is an available adjustment from the factory.
Did you retune it after
After the transmission upgrades?
@@ForwardMomentum yes sir
No sir. Not necessary.
I've also seen that you can do the shim upgrade to for it to handle 650hp
Stage 2 will talk about VB upgrades. Next episode. :)
@@ForwardMomentum wow. I can't wait. Since I'm boosting my gs300 I'm gonna make a video also. Since it's hard to find anyone who's actually doing what I'm doing. Running boost on all stock ECU and internals. I know the limits it's basically a "Budget" build for the mean time so you can stack up your money but at the same time have a boosted 2j 😁
@Shawnsta 777 haha right on man I'll for sure get some videos out especially some rips. I got a HKS Carbon TI exhaust it's gonna sound wicked!
@@Smeaded Still waiting for you to post those videos lol
@@maliki14 car was sold 2 years ago.
Does this work for the 6 cylinder tranny as well?
Of course.
Do you know the total to modified a gs300
Probably $150 for stage 1.
I heard to do FIPG vs rubber gasket. Can anyone give some advice on this?
FIPG is what the FSM calls for, but it’s a huge pain to work with on an awkward trans pan. That’s why I used a gasket. So much easier. 👍
Can you help me with lambda zond?
What is “zond?”
Didn't even shim the accumulators and still called a dial movement a stage one? C'mon.
Did you see the part where I talk about the modded VB episode that’s up next? Easy tiger.
