      Hans Zimmer had a fantastic soundtrack, but Alexandre Desplat did 5 freakin' scores for 2014 (Godzilla, GBH, Imitation Game, Unbroken, and Monuments Men) and I'd argue that the first three--the middle of which he won the Oscar--were better scores musically than that of Interstellar. Desplat deserved it more, plus Hans Zimmer's past win all the way back for The Lion King gave him a slight handicap.

      Have you seen the behind the scene in producing interstellar soundtrack. Nolan and hans literally use organ + piano at central church of london to create the music. They spent hours to tune the sound and shift the colour of music. The use of organ also makes the soundtrack sound divine. Nolan says using the organ in music is like having connection in metaphysical world. What lies beyond us. Hans zimmer says using organ is like human. The sound produced is humanlike because it need air. It need air to breath to produce sound. At that point, wow they should be given the award for that. Imagine the beautiful description of music produced by them. And yet still no Oscar for that. Its a joke to academy really.

    • @brandonhowe6854
      @brandonhowe6854 8 років тому +9

      I must have obsessively watched that video about a dozen times! There was an astonishing amount of effort and thought put into its production. What always impresses me about Zimmer's scores is not only their sound, but their control. John Williams, for example, will write beautiful music that overwhelms what is happening on-screen: it's as if he sees film as a way to showcase his music rather than seeing music as a way to amplify the emotional impact of a film. Zimmer, on the other hand, is a master of restraint. He knows how to write music that complements the film rather than cover it up, and he also knows when music does not belong in a scene. I greatly admire his open-minded approach which allows many people to bring their ideas to a given project, rather than shutting himself off and only writing what he personally enjoys. Alexandre Desplat probably should have won a different year, but I dislike the idea that the Academy gave his score an Oscar over a more-deserving one simply because they felt it was his time. Budapest Hotel's score was honestly too minimal and did not reflect the best he had to offer.

    • @nickjohn2051
      @nickjohn2051 8 років тому +11

      Brandon Howe Yes. Thank you. I was thinking the same thing. The Budapest as movie is outstanding. But the soundtrack not the main central part of the movie. Oh well. Atleast Interstellar score still relevant after these years.

    • @mrrevan813
      @mrrevan813 7 років тому +5

      Brandon Howe, Nick John
      This score was possibly the greatest ever written and composed in cinema history. I must have played it over 100 times a week, at least. Every time I step into the church, I get this sense of a spiritual connection to the greater realm of the universe(as you said Nick John). Especially at night, as I look up at the stars and listen to "First Step", I imagine observing the Earth on-board the ISS, or as part of the crew of the Endurance. Hans Zimmer is an artistic gift to mankind

I mean, I really liked the other movies: Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman etc. but not even a nomination for this masterpiece? It seems to me that the Academy hates Nolan for whatever reason. Interstellar definitely had the best visual effects... but for those who are criticizing X-Men Days of Future Past should realize something. The award for for visual effects is not awarded to flashy effect driven movies but rather for technical achievement, innovation and use of effects as an art form to enhance the film. So even though Edge of Tomorrow did have great visuals, it is nowhere in the same league of innovation as the sequence with Quicksilver in the kitchen. That one sequence alone should be considered a visual highlight... but with that being said.. Interstellar had amazing photographic and practical visual effects.

    Interstellar is proof on earth that artists provide our strongest voice to rage against the dying of the light. Christopher Nolan illuminates the darkness of deepest space with the brilliance of his singular creative vision, while grounding the cosmos in a deeply emotional tale of fathers and daughters. This is cinema at its most ambitious, with Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain providing the beating heart to this awe-inspiring work that reaches across time and space to find meaning in the unexplainable.

    It should also be highly noted and published that many visualizations in interstellar are formulated from real scientific data. The visualization of the black hole is being used today, the team behind it didn’t just give us great looking visuals, they significantly contributed to science! How this film doesn’t win a million more awards is beyond me.
    This film has definitely made sure to be relevant until we go through a wormhole ourselves in the next couple of eons.

    Interstellar didn’t win as many Oscars as it should’ve but it won more than any other movie that year because it is remembered far more often and ten years later people are still talking about it and finding it. It is stamped in our memories more than any other movie that year or quite frankly most all movies of the last decade.
