Built the billing boat model of this tug in the year of 1979. Lots of shipmodels later i can say that this tug gave me the interest of ocean going tugs. What a great ship !

Bloody shame that they are gone now!!! These where the tugs that the Dutch where famous for all over the world and we could not preserve at least one?? I'm feeling very sad right now. Thanks voor de nice pic's though
Great presentation--and music. Would any of those small models be the Heller kit? In any case I saw one image featuring the S.S United States, on which I sailed from Le Havre to New York when I was a boy in 1955. Thanks! Wright Flyer, USAF (1968-1972).
Is there anywhere online where an in-depth history of these ships can be found? I've got both the Heller kit of the Rotterdam and the Revell kit of the Houston and been keen to know the history behind the real ships as well as their sisters for a while.
No floating museum. All three haven been sold and now sailing a Greek flag, named Global Destiny (ex Rotterdam), Global Change (ex London) en Global Success 1 (ex Singapore).
What a pity...! my friend... thanks for your up date info, about this glories...Maybe in the future, comes to NL. Also "SALVAGEMAN", "HISPANIA", now HERAKLES, must be a BRITISH museum salvage tug... SALVAGEMAN, and SMIT ROTTERDAM..really legend tugs...
nice video any idea whats being towed at 2.25? im assuming the whole fleet ,was it ten tugs named after places are now scrapped? my father made the model kit 1:33 smit netherland
Ah I see. Sorry mate, I don't know. :) Yeah, scrapped in an awful place. I was a sailor on the Witte Zee (and some other Smit tugs) and when I saw pictures of this beautiful vessel being towed to het graveyard, I was crying...
all three are gone and were dismantled in Alang India a couple years ago.. only things surviving were their engines that were sold Real shame they couldnt at least keep Rotterdam as a museum ship.. they were kind of legendary in their time 70ies - 90ies

The tugs that define Oceantug
I have always liked this ship, thanks for showing it.
Ik begrijp nog steeds niet waarom Smit Internationale moest ophouden te bestaan. Zo’n toonaangevende wereldspeler.
Incredible!!! 🐕

I agree, Houston, Rotterdam, New York, London Were the best to set giant concrete platforms at location. I remember Bob Overand a Super Captain.
I was a sailor on it back in the eighties
Today, 11 years ago ( 17 dec 2023 ) she met her destiny .... she dropped anchor for the last time. Port Alang ... :-(

I think its the Stafjord A or B in Norway i myself have been sailing on the this boat.
What scale are these models ? And where can I get one?
5:28 Huh? Surely those coffee urns would go flying in a storm? I'm surprised there isn't some sort of railing around it?
