A bit of backstory: Cutler Beckett had Jack transporting 100 slaves. that didn't sit well with Jack, so he set the slaves free, for which Beckett had him branded as a pirate, and sank his ship, the Wicked Wench. Jack made a deal with Davy Jones, to raise the Wench from the depths, which was now black (on account of having burned when it first sank), and renamed The Black Pearl. That's why Jones' bargain was 100 souls - one for each of the freed slaves that cost Jack his ship in the first place.
Where did you get this info? I always feel like a I remember a movie that has East India Trading Co in it, and it’s a pirate movie, I was too young to remember the name, but it feels like it’s a prequel to this series?
@nikolaykomissarenko7822 it's from the deleted scenes from the 3rd movie
@@seankaneshiro2032 Ohhh, that makes sense. I always wondered what the actual history between Beckett and Jack was, because in the final cuts they only allude to it but never explicitly state it. Kind of a shame that scene is missing then, but the third film is already quite bloated and long, so I'm not surprised they'd cut it.
What this comment says, I just love PotC because it has so much lore… Sometimes you even need to watch the movie a couple times to get everything
Also raising The Pearl gifted to her an unnatural speed, thats why The Interceptor (fastest ship of The Royal Navy) coudnt get off from The Pearl, regardless she has a torn sails (first movie) and thats why The Dutchman was easily left behind so Jones had to call a Kraken (second movie).
The "I've got a jar of dirt" scene was completely improv. Jack falling down the stairs wasn't scripted, Johnny actually fell and stayed in character. When he crosses in front of Kiera and Orlando, the look of confusion is their genuine reaction.
Yeah, it was great acting on Johnny Depp’s part
Are you sure Jony Depp was acting at that scene? 🤣
@@hendrikworung1967 the fall wasn't improv, it was an accident but he stayed in character during his improv. So accidentally multilayered
They also didn't tell Orlando when Kiera was about to kiss Depp. So the WTF look on his face was genuine too
Y'know, with how much about this series is said to be improv, I'm half convinced there wasn't any script to begin with, they just dropped Depp, Bloom, and Knightley off in the Caribbean, said "Act like pirates", and filmed it.
36:50 The entrance of Barbossa was a surprise to the entire cast.
They were told that Annamarie from the first film would be down the stairs to greet them and lead them. So when Barbossa appeared, it was their genuine reactions.
Yeah she kinda got ripped off lmao
@@brutishwing2.090i don’t think they ever have any plans for her. It would make no sense if she is the one that lead them to find Jack.
@@knell18897 Zoe Saldana (actress who played her) was promised a large roll for the movie series, and she has came out in interviews confirming it. That's why I said, she kinda got ripped off
@@brutishwing2.090 beware de dark..
@@brutishwing2.090well thank God it went that way and we got Barbosa.
But they shouldn't have made false promises I agree.
To answer your questions.
1) Jack didn't just wake up in a coffin. He used it as a means to escape the Turkish prison after he broke in to get the "drawing of a key."
2) You saw at the end of the first movie, in the post credits scene where the monkey becomes cursed again. After the first movie, Jack and the crew went back to the Isla de la Muerta to get all the non-cursed treasure Barbossa's crew had gathered, only to find the island had been reclaimed by the sea. All that was left was Jack the Monkey swimming about.
3) They got the Black Pearl back in the water by waiting for the tide to come in. That's how they would keelhaul a ship; lighten the ship by emptying its cargo, pull it ashore and tie it down so they could scrape the barnacles off the bottom and re-tar the hull to prevent any leaking. Once that's down, they wait for the tide to come in and help ease the ship back into the water.
4) The reason the Compass didn't work for Jack is because he didn't know what he wanted. He has to know exactly what it is that he wants in order for the Compass to function, but without enough detail or emotions causing him conflict, he couldn't get a clear heading.
5) Yes, the Kraken was among the many things sailors feared. Sailors were a fearful and superstitious bunch back in the day. Dating all the way back to ancient Greece, the sea was full of stories of creatures that would doom mortal men. The Flying Dutchman, Sirens, the Bermuda Triangle, Charybdis, Scylla, sea serpents, you name it. Christopher Columbus once faced a mutiny because sailors were afraid of the unknown territory they were sailing through and because they would run out of rations. Throughout history, there has been many stories of people and ships that have gone out to sea and were never seen again. The entire sea floor is a graveyard.
6) Yes, Jack Sparrow is dead. As Bootstrap Bill explained earlier, "Then it's the Locker for you! Jones' terrible leviathan will drag the Pearl back to the depths and you along with it." So basically Jack Sparrow has been taken to Davy Jones Locker. In olden times, it was a name meaning the bottom of the sea. Here, though, when Davy Jones is supposed to represent the Devil, I'm sure you can imagine what the Locker is supposed to be.
Too long, didn't read
4* the only thing that Jack wants is the Black Pearl, that's why when he was swimming in the boat he took compass and come back to ship. He is in love with it
@@wooshbait36unfortunate, it was a good read.

I understand that The Curse of the Black Pearl is pretty much a perfect action adventure movie but Dead Man's Chest is just so much fun and it has something more, it's definitely my favorite of the original trilogy. Not to mention the CGI on Davy Jones still holds up perfectly 17 years later, that's freaking impressive tbh. So excited to see your watch At World's End!
Davy Jones is easily the best CGI character of the 2000s, and I believe the reason he looks so good, beyond the immense talent and skill of the artists behind him, is that the director, Gore Verbinski, has a VFX background, so he knew exactly how to set up shots, lighting, angles and be precise about what he wants with the VFX supervisor.
Most directors just do whatever and then hope that the VFX people can simply move their magic wands and make it work.
Cutler Beckett is a brilliant character, a well-written "bad guy".
Also, I absolutely LOVE Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa.
A superb superb villain.
“It’s gettin BaaaAAAAAaak.”
Something to note is the end credit scene of Curse of the Black Pearl only explains why Jack (the monkey) is still cursed in Dead Man's Chest. When Jack (the monkey) took the coin out of the chest that didn't bring back Barbossa or recurse him, he was still dead. In fact you can see his dead body in this film when the crew first visit Tia Dalma. There is a different reason he is alive at the end of Dead Man's Chest.
Calypso bring him back
Tia Dalma/Calypso needed all the Pirate Lords in order to assemble the Brethren, so they could release her from her human bonds. And so she resurrected the dead pirate captain Hector Barbossa and tricked him to retrieve Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones' Locker. All to summon a fourth meeting of the Brethren.

*Spoiler* - that's the next movie, not this one
Pintel and Ragetti (The one-eyed pirate and his friend) are apparently Uncle and Nephew.
It started as just a fan theory, but the directors liked it and decided it might as well be canon.
There's a lot of bits like that. Barbossa's love of apples was just a simple joke at first, but they made them his favourite food because of the fan reaction.
A few more details too, but they might count as spoilers
Wait Pintel is the uncle???
I honestly never learned their names until like 5 years after the 3rd movie. I think they've only said their names like once or twice in the whole series
@@SentientPotatoXIII I only learned their names from the Lego game
@@a.morphous66 I completely forgot there was a Lego game. I wish I could play it 😭
It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
Deserved. The effects look photorealistic to this day, and most VFX these days become dated immediately
The polevault was obviously not on the list
I never understood why Dead Man's Chest was criticised. It's still my favourite of the Pirates movies.
I didn’t like it when I first watched it, but it really grows on you on rewatch. Might be the expectations, it was different to the first one and it may have thrown people off.
The whole TRILOGY is awesome!!
People always have negativity. Nothing can ever be 100% neutral.
i can kinda see why, there's alot of filler in the middle
This one’s my favorite too.
Geoffrey Rush was way too good not to bring back. The banter between Jack, and Barbossa in the 3rd film is next level. Also - pay attention to Captain Teague in the 3rd film - you might recognize the man playing him...
Unlikely. While he is the only real-life undead human, I doubt she is familiar with him.
@@oscardiggs246 well, as someone said - young people should start thinking about the kind of world they're going to leave for him, and Willie Nelson...
What aRRRRRRRRe you doing

Haaaaaar!!!
About Comodore snatiching the heart in the end, actually you can notice it subtly. When him, Elisabeth and Will were fighting off Jones' crew on the shore, Comodore catches a glimpse of the heart in Jack's "jar of dirt". So, while Comodore played the noble guy and stayed on the island as a distraction, he actually outsmarted both Jack and Will, and left with the main trophey.
Davy Jones was 100% CGI from head to claw leg. The actor, Bill Nighy, was filmed with some make-up around his mouth and eyes, because the VFX guys at ILM knew there would be some extreme close-ups and they weren’t completely sure that they could make those areas look real enough, so they wanted those bits as a back-up; in the end they found that they could do it without relying on the make-up, though. It’s remarkable work, it made the whole industry go “Woah” and fully deserved the Oscar. And a big shout-out to Ve Neill and her make-up crew, too! Glad Vicky pointed out their work too. I think they deserved an Oscar, though they didn’t get nominated (for this one, at least - they got a nom for Black Pearl) 😁
So fun fact, the first movie was made and then they greenlit two more with many of the same cast members. So 2 and 3 have a larger feeling of being connected with a overall story whereas 1 feels more like its own thing. Also because of the cast members signing on they were limited a bit with where the story could go as well
That's generally how it goes in Hollywood.
The first movie is made as a standalone, usually ties up most every thread.
The first movie then becomes a hit, and a sequel is greenlit.
Conversely, when they plan a trilogy from the beginning, they leave too many loose ends in the first film, the audience feels the first one is weak and empty, and it fails in theaters, thus killing the chances for the entire trilogy to be made.
8:48
Remember this first movie when Elizabeth fell into the water because of her corset?
Jack was finishing a story to the two guards and said, "And then they made me their Chief."
It's confirmed, Jack is either a prophet or a time-traveller
That just means he has experience in becoming a tribal chief, bros been chief of a tribe 2 separate times lol or maybe it’s the same tribe who know 😂
The actor Bill Nighy played Davey Jones. Vicky he has been in several movies you might have reacted to. He played the ageing rock star in Love Actually, the step father in Shaun of the Dead, Slartibarfast in Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy, and the Minister of Magic in The Deathly Hallows I just to name a few.
The Living
He's also Viktor in the Underworld movies.
Underworld is a Fantastic film series
One of the things I like most about these two movies (Dead Man's Chest and At Worlds End) is that they hint at the past without revealing too much. It is intuited that Sparrow and Beckett had a run-in many years ago (many suggest Sparrow castrated Beckett), and in a deleted scene from At Worlds End (I seem to remember) it is hinted that Jack stole the Black Pearl when it was transporting slaves from Africa, and he corrects Beckett when he calls "cargo" those slaves telling him "People are not cargo, mate". The script gives these characters magnificent depth without falling into gratuitous exposition. This trilogy is fantastic.
Jack and Beckett had more than just a run in. Jack was once a privateer and merchant for the East India Trading Company, under the pretense that he would not transport slaves. Beckett, however, went against that term and forced Jack to carry a hundred slaves aboard the Wicked Wench (which would become the Pearl).
@@Anino_Makata yes exactly
To be fair, that part didn't make much sense, when Jack then goes on to try and sacrifice 99 innocent people to save himself.
The Commodore is actually a very complex character. I've watched this Trilogy (yes Trilogy) more than maybe any other movie except for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and I've had the chance to study him. Initially the Commodore looks to be the typical jock character after the same girl as the main lead is after but he looks way more suitable, charming, successful, capable and deserving of the girls affections over the pauper, roguish lead, but over the movies he grows. His affections for Elizabeth goes from crush, to resentment to fondness and finally acceptance that she's not going to be with him.
He also isn't entirely good or bad. He does some selfish things but he's also brave, strong and a capable commanding leader.
His character in my opinion gets more development in this series than any other. Jack, Liz and Will all remain the same thoughout in personality, character and motivations only their history and actions change and develop. But Norrington actually changes in personality, motivation and perspective over the course of the movies.
He's a really well written character, honestly.
Yeah I always felt they didn't utilize him as well as they could. Also his actor and Keria Knightly doing commentary for the first movie was by far one of the best dvd commentary's I've watched, they had a ball doing that and laughing.
When the wheel arrived at the beach, Norrington, being as intelligent as he is, noticed the leftover dirt in the rowboat, indicating that the heart had been removed from the chest and into the jar. You see him tucking something (the heart) into his pocket before the others reach him. When it looks like they're gonna lose, he pretends to do the whole sacrifice play and run away with the chest (which everyone believes has the heart) in order to lure Jones' crew away and save the others. That's why he so easily gave it up when he got cornered, and everyone allowed him to run away with the heart in his pocket. Truly a pro-gamer move.
In my opinion, the first three Pirates movies are one of the best trilogies ever put to film. Every single detail is brilliant. Can't wait for the third one!
This is my favourite film in the POTC trilogy. Bill Nighy's performance as Davy Jones is amazing. The Kraken scenes are awesome as well.
"Tortuga's a MESS. Looks fun, I wanna be there" lol what a mood
The first 3 pirates movies are literally the best! Like no complaints, perfect all around!
Agree. When you watch the last two movies, you realise Gore Verbinski's movies are so much richer. The Pirates franchise is his baby, and he clearly put a lot of love into the trilogy. The other movies are just glorified fan films.
@@SirHilaryManfat 100% agree
Happy to see you moving through this franchise pretty quickly. The first three are a bit of a trilogy, closely related.
dead man's chest has one of the most impressive CG i've ever seen, and its almost 20 years ago
I'm glad that you left in the line "Hide the rum." Jack didn't want to take any chances with Elizabeth on board his ship.
The cinematography in this movie and in At Worlds End is absolutely amazing. Also the directing by Verbinski. That was not the case in the next two (which for me honestly don't exist, or are at least fan fiction). Everything is great in this three movies, three of the greatest from Hollywood.
Even though At World’s End is a perfect ending, you don’t get to decide what’s canon.

There is a book called "The Golden Age of Pirates" which tells about some of the Pirates including BlackBeard and how sailors would choose being a pirate over working for the British Navy
27:07 Bill Nighy. Primarily a stage actor, which is why he can do mo-cap and character acting so well. One of his first major film roles was as Vampire Elder Viktor in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution. He's done everything from rom-coms (Love, Actually) to science fiction, has done multiple video games (Destiny as The Speaker Of The Traveller), and was one of three actors on the final list to play The Doctor in the reboot of Doctor Who in 2006, a role that went to Christopher Eccleston instead.
He's been in something like two hundred films at this point, all of them with speaking lines, as well as a cubic asston of TV shows. Very prolific after spending his first couple of decades working up to National Theater level acting (the National Theater is the best of the best in the UK)
24:08 He wants the key and the chest. Those are two things, in two different places. There’s most likely another thing he wants “most,” tied for first place on his wishlist, since the compass appeared to spin to three places when he gazed at it. The key and the chest are useless without each other (magical chests can’t be broken), so he needs both to be safe from Jones, but I’m curious what thing would be tied with those on his priority list.
6:16 Being part of the Flying Dutchman's crew makes the curse of the Aztec gold seem good in comparison.
Can't wait till you do the next one, At World's End. It's my favorite of all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies!
Davy Jones is one of the greatest and most terrifying villains ever created
"Tortuga's a mess! Looks fun, I wanna be there."
YES.
These movies are instant classics. They're fun, but not devoid of stakes, well acted, fantastic music, and an all around good time. So glad to watch you experiencing them!
This was the movie that got me into film and digital art. I love it so much!!!!
I can see why IT'S SO GOOOOD 😭
@@VKunia it was Davy Jones CGI that got me into it.
Even after all these years, after seeing this in theaters for the first time, even seeing you react to this movie, I still get hyped and clap for the infamous barbosa scene 🤘🤘
Well, yeah. Not all Disney movies are for kids. By the way, fun fact: The music track for when they fight atop the huge water wheel is called 'Wheel of Fortune'.
8:35 "He gives me Zorro vibes."
Well, Bob Anderson did do the stunts for these films and the Mask of Zorro. So yup, the vibes are real
The modern equivalent of Empire Strikes Back, more action-heavy and plunging our heroes into the darkest places before letting them try to escape in film 3. Loved it.
To answer your question, Bill Nighy is Davy Jones. He's given some of the best CGI ever here but he's in the flesh for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as the Minister of Magic. I find it amusing how he's also Rattlesnake Jake in Rango; yet another serious no-nonsense enemy to a clownish guile hero played by Johnny Depp. They're just natural foils to each other.

Fun fact: the kiss Elizabeth planted on Jack was intentionally left out of Orlando Bloom's script so he didn't know it was going to happen, hence the perfect WTF look on his face.
4:40 - Wait.... Now I wanna know what that joke was?!?! 🤣🤣
Another great reaction!
Yes somebody please EXPLAAIIIN😭
I grew up with the pirates movies and I always loved how amazing this movie was made for 2006! It’s so exciting to watch other people’s reactions to films that made my childhood and me to the person I am today 🥺
23:04 What Pirates always love in their life, they will protect it.
I think we're all in agreement that someone should've had the stones to stand up as Johnny was walking out of the court room and said for him, "And remember, this is the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!"
Lol the cast didn't even know Barbosa was coming back! Classic goosebump ending. And who said they weren't gonna harm the dog, yet? They made jack king before sacrifice, probably doing the same to the dog too.
Whether Canon or not I like the story behind Jones and Jack. Not sure if it's spoilers but here's the story. Jack worked for Beckett and was tasked with delivering 100 slaves but Jack refused to do so, Beckett then saw to it that Jacks ship be destroyed and Jack marked as a pirate and I think they also left Jack for dead ontop his now burning ship tho I could be wrong but Jack then made a deal with Davy Jones and Jones brought back the black pearl which was charred black from the fire and that's how it got its name and as part of the bargain Jones tasked Jack with collecting 100 souls for him kinda of being a dick because he knew Jack had freed 100 men and now he'd have to condem 100 to servitude aboard the Dutchman.
Hey Vkunia Jack was also their cheiften just as the dog was. So.... yeah....
I don't think there was a thing in the first movie about Barbosa, just that the monkey stole a coin to once again become immortal itself.
I would say the movies that are not as good are after the first three ones.
Ty for another great reaction.
The dog is fine in the third movie.
Seriously why is no one remembering this?
@@SubterrelProspector Very true point. And Jack was also fine from his time as their cheiften.
25:04 that game had more context in the deleted scenes. Will actually won the first round between himself and Davy Jones. He pressured the captain for a second round, which is what we saw. It may have added too much but it clarified the bravado Will had.
The game is based on probability and deception. the odds of winning are not good.
The actor who plays The Commodore is also fantastic in The Talented Mr. Ripley with Matt Damon. Definitely recommend that movie for a future reaction.
28:07 Might I suggest a vacation to the island of Antigua then? I did field school there in 2004 for archaeology, and apart from the fact that I melted in the heat (it's between 15 to 35 C year round), it is known for having 365 beaches, one beach for every day of the year. They are primarily white sand beaches too, with those shallows you speak of before a small dropoff to deeper water. The snorkeling and shallow diving opportunities there are amazing. Saw my first wild seahorse there, it literally swam in front of my mask, turned to look at me like "You're an interesting but peaceful looking fish," then continued on its merry way
"Him and his Dang Apples!" The way you said that was so funny : D. I hope you watch the third one. Thanks for posting.
Scenes on Isla Cruces from Dead Man's Chest were shot at White Cay in the Exumas, a district in the Bahamas.
34:51 Immediately regrets that statement as hilarious as it was spoken...
This isn't just the best Pirates movie.
This is a cinematic masterpiece and the greatest middle chapter in any film trilogy.
Yes, greater than Empire Strikes Back, Two Towers, Dark Knight & (my former favorite) "Spider-Man 2".
"Do you fear death?" one the best villain speeches.
14:41 - That guy Will talked to at the beginning? The one who talked about trading for "delicious long pork"? "Long Pork" is a euphemism for human flesh. Jack and his crew weren't the first people they killed for meat, that's how they got the spices from the East India Trading Company that Jack found, they traded for it.
33:06 - Plenty of animals have more than 2 eyes that work. Spiders for example. There's also what's called a parietal/pineal eye (AKA 3rd eye) which is usually located on top of certain animal's heads and doesn't have the same capabilities as their primary eyes, but are light-sensitive to help alert them to potential danger.
37:38 - ...DId you *already* forget what they tried to do to the _last_ chief?...
"Giant squid"?
Michael Bolton would be proud of you, girl! 🤣
Bill Nighy. He’s in everything. Shaun of the dead, hot fuzz, this, worlds end, potc at worlds end and much more.
"This has been a rough day for Jack."
I just realized how well that sentence sums up this movie XD
People really underestimate how much damage a bullwhip does, it rips through the top layer of your skin, it isn’t just a scar. Especially when it’s multiple lashes on top of each other. Oof
If you’ve never seen a King Kong movie, you should start with the first. The original 1933 King Kong is still the best!
When Barbosa entered, the entire theater jumped up and screamed.
I absolutely love this one. I think the backlash this one got was unwarranted. Everyone double-crossing each other, all the action, the design and digital effects are just so good! I'm gonna have to go back and watch these soon.
37:35 i hate to point this out but when jack was their "leader" the tribe thought that he was a god in human form so they intended to "free him from his flesh prison." now that the dog is their leader, they might be thinking the same thing.
also there is a theory that jack from the first one is a time traveler because in the first movie jack says to the two guys on the ship "and then they made me their chief" (in reference to becoming the tribe leader in movie 2) then he has to save elisabeth from drowning.
21:06 Tortuga looks like a great place to get drunk and have fights.
There are some contradicting theories on this subject, but I personally think that Jack doesn’t know what he wants because of this: he wants to kill Davy Jones, end his debt, and consequently he wants the chest. But on the other hand if he kills him he has to become him, and Jack doesn’t want that, he wants to be free, and not have to ferry souls and abide by a duty. I think he decides he wants to be Jones later on and doesn’t initially want it. ❤
Fun fact about Captain Jack Sparrow.
The red mark on his jaw is syphilis. Yes, the Captain has syphilis.
Its size changes throughout the series from one scene to another. It was an inside joke between Johnny and the makeup department.
This is my first introduction to the Pirate series and my favorite out of all of them! I remember my cousins inviting me to see this in theaters and as someone who lives by the coast this movie gave me nightmares and had me worried about the Barnacle pirates as a boy. LOL! Fingers crossed for Peter Jackson's King Kong in the future! :D
Jack Sparrow untill this day is the perfect combination of wild insanity and brilliant genius, and the result is the most hilarious character I have EVER seen. I miss those days of Johnny Depp...

The third film "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End" is by far the best of the movies! I don't get why people don't like it.
I love that your interpretation of "Jack convinces his enemy to kill someone other than himself" is "Aww, Jack is such a people person!"
Forgive me if this was already mentioned but:
It was Beckett that, wrongfully, marked Jack as a pirate in the first place. Jack was, I believe, hired to deliver ‘cargo.’ He instead decides to liberate it.
When he was speaking with Beckett a while later, Beckett mentions that, and Jack replies with, “People aren’t cargo mate.” Indicating that Beckett was dealing in slaves….
So I believe in revenge, Beckett burns Jack’s beloved ship, and it sinks. In response, Jack makes his deal with Davy Jones. I’m assuming Jack’s supposed ‘payment’ was his soul, in return for Jones raising, and restoring, Jacks ship. Davy Jones does this, the ship is restored, but will forever maintain its blackened look because of the fire.
I believe the name of the ship, beforehand, was the ‘Wicked Wench.’ Then afterword, given what happened, Jack renamed it to the ‘Black Pearl.’
the hat of the captain means a lot to the pirates. if the captain himself is telling leave the hat, run, then we know for a FACT we are in deep trouble
Compass doesn't work on Jack because he doesn't want to fight Davy Jones but he has to. It's Pointer confusing his intentions to run to safety of kill Davy Jones to remove the curse. 😅
Barbossa was killed by Jack in the first film. He died at the end. Tia Dalma brought him back to life in this movie.
There's a whole breakdown video with hundreds of thousands of views about that Liars Dice scene, would highly recommend, its the best scene in the entire movie, arguably this whole trilogy, you could even argue the entire franchise
What's funny is when you learn how Jack became a pirate you learn he isn't a bad guy.
If you rewatch the first one, Jack is talking to the two guards about how a tribe made him a chief (then Elizabeth falls off the cliff and is saved by Jack), not sure if they just decided to use that line and make it part of the film or if it was always the plan
the kitty meowning at the end XD haha
I love when these videos come out! VKunia is so excited and amazed by all these awesome moments; It makes me feel like I'm watching it for the first time again😊 I am SO looking forward to her watching TOMBSTONE
The reason Jack can’t use the compass is cuz what he wants most is to survive. Although the chest could help him the compass keeps pointing to land since that the best way to stay alive since the kraken is pursing him in the open sea
The shallow sandy water parts you are referring to are called shoals. They are naturally submerged banks where the sand is higher in elevation and closer to the surface. Sometimes, high tide and low tide can naturally affect the depth. They are actually quite common and are found anywhere in the world. On my home island, I’ve seen shoals and sandbars on the north shore in the Sound and on the south shore in the Atlantic Ocean many times in the last 25 years!!!
I think they shot most of the films on location..there's barley any green screen right?

A lot of good actors here, beyond the obvious main trio there's Bill Nighy as Davy Jones, and Stellan Skaarsgard (played Scherbina in Chernobyl, among many others) as Will's father

Oh, they made the dog their leader, he's fine. Forgets they tried to cook jack.
