The Real Time Web Series is a project that showcases past and present graffiti writers from New Zealand. The series presents the writers real time working process from start to finish accompanied by a narration of answers to questions that have been created by an online audience.

Lots of guys who do videos throw up some terrible music while they quickly mash out a piece.. sometimes it works often it doesn't.
I like the music in this video, the voice over q&a's, multiple camera angles...This is an awesome video, I can't imagine how awesome this kind of thing would be to get TMD on board with this, but even if it's you alone HOW SICK IS IT WATCHING BERST PAINT!!!!! SIIIIIIIICK!!!!!!

Prolly the best graffiti video for graffiti writers to watch on UA-cam, whether it's someone who's been painting since the 80's or someone who started yesterday. The amount of information on the video is amazing and I feel like everyone can learn something. Whether it's what U said or what u sprayed.. Amazing job man. This was great

your whole series of artist Interviews has really gotten me into doing pieces and style writing... here In Cleveland it's more or less a throwie, straight letter, and roller, type of attitude and although those 3 have been able to keep me always changing my style and colors up it wasn't till I just went for something with the whole Intent to be abstract and multi colors per each letter that's really opened me up to being comfortable in claiming a whole wall or car for a art like peice.. for a long time I had to swear up and down that that wasn't something I would ever be Interested in as well as trying to discredit it as not being Graff since it's a style that for the most part I've only seen on legal walls and so I would down grade it to street art... but I can say as long as the area is scouted good and you focus on your movements to be as efficient as possible it can be done in the spirit of graff.Graff.. i.e. on others property and with knowing that some will be upset about it as well as it being undoubtedly vandalism..
I hope you read this. I've always wanted to paint a piece but i don't know how. I don't have much experience with cans. And watching other videos suck as Ironlak clips I never understood the purpose of the sketch of the reason behind the color of the sketch. Or the fill in process. I never understood how artists knew how to keep their letters the same size. None of it made sense to me. But after watching this video I understand a whole lot more of the process of a piece and the purposes behind the line work, fill in, outline, sketch, and getting the scale of the wall so the piece fit. Thank you so much this was super helpful.

You have the most unique style of making graffiti videos, putting together an interview with a Q&A session and a full video of the painting process from start to finish. I am from Singapore and recently started making videos too, however I find it extremely difficult to concentrate on filming and painting at the same time. However, I must say I really enjoy watching your videos and listening to the whole commentary. Pretty motivating in the background while I'm hitting the blackbook.
Thanks brother, I actually had this idea back when I was in Taipei and only really started to realize this idea last year. It was just a response to all the normal graffiti videos I saw online where I didn't really learn anything so hopefully the Q&A / podcast style video offers something unique for the people that watch so they can away something from it.
Yeah I agree its a very different take from all the normal videos. Watching the entire process with commentary and the artist's insights makes the whole experience way more interesting. For one I definitely want to try the one thing you spoke about that struck me which was the part on how you work on one letter at a time. I have a crew mate from Malaysia who does the same thing but I never understood why.

Really liked the organized approach with the grid you showed to line your letters up, been using it myself and my pieces are looking sharper

Couldn't agree with you more! Wear a respirator mask at all times where possible! I try to promote it as much as a I can in normal conversations.

Thanks bro, all done with an astro fat cap. Push down hard then when you tail off the line you let go of the pressure and just let the paint flow out. Great to get some variation in the line from fat to thin.

Hey Nico, thanks for stopping by to watch the episode. Your words are very kind and I appreciate that it has helped you to some degree! It is never too late to start painting and graffiti can give you an alternative perspective from traditional art. My key comments to you would be to study, sketch, and paint as much as you can. 1) Really learn and examine letter structure and intention of the many facets of graffiti. 2) Sketch all day and everyday. Thats the only way you can develop ideas and bring something new to the wall. 3) Paint as much as you can, meaning at least 3-4 times a week. Once a week isn't enough and by the time next week comes around you'll have forgotten what you achieved last week.

Very inspirational in all areas. I can certainly say I have learnt a lot from your answers and can put them into my own practice. Love the music playing as well as seeing this wall piece being made from scratch to finish without the whole time-lapse aspect. This is where its at. I've been filming my travels and painting experiences while trying to break the mold of short attention span graff videos on my own. And it's good to see someone say fuck attention span, people need the depth of what we're doing. Big ups on this project. Really looking forward to seeing where this keeps going. Much respect!
Totally bro! I still love a slickly edited graf video for sure but I guess after watching them I don't really take all that much away from it. I'm trying to present these videos with the approach of story telling and a narrative shaped by each unique artist. With involvement from the online community I believe it helps connect to the audience and gives them a reason to watch it with specific questions that can be answered directly from the artist! Most importantly as well I want to try and tell the New Zealand story and offer an insight and perspective that hopefully the world hasn't heard before.
I think those are all really good perspectives to do as well! And you already have the established workload and online presence to provide that insight to people. I think for people starting out, filming your own videos, like myself, and trying to produce a unique and professional final product, is a good way to get your stuff out there in a more hard working way than just releasing every flick on instagram. Showing the story, and the travels, and the locations that graff takes you. That stuff not everyone sees, most people just see the final flick. And don't know some of the process of it all. Like, to me it's interesting to see the places that people go to paint. The abandonments, the trains, the walls, the bridges. I think the places tell the story too. Or at least that's what I try to push for in my films.

I watched some of your videos a while back and am coming back to your channel. I originally was going to ask some questions, but since you already had quite a few episodes, I wasn't sure if some of my questions we're already asked. When you we're talking about style, that you try to understand what other artists are doing. How can you know what the artist your influenced by is doing, from observation? How can you learn the concept or technique behind it? I have multiple influences, but I want to find a way to apply different aspects of their work to my own work, but still make it my own and for it to have my own vibes. I'm still trying to find my own preferences and what feels right to me, but I find it difficult to decide on what direction I want to go stylistically and what approach would best suit the direction I want to go.
Hey Subkons thanks for stopping by again. We've been a bit slow on the making the videos but we definitely have more on the way. The challenge about understanding the writers that influence you is a very tough one especially in graffiti because their processes are often so closed off. Its not like your typical fine artist who has endless videos or exhibitions etc that discuss their work. In my view, the best way forward at this stage is to actually reach out to them and spark a conversation on IG. Some writers may share the process and some may not. Each to their own but you also have to respect that. It might be because they're super busy, or they don't want people emulating their stuff, or simply that they don't know how to talk about their work. Either way, steal the best ideas from the people you like but develop it into something different rather than replicate and also acknowledge them.

@@subkons I would start by liking and commenting on some of their posts. You don't need to message them constantly and sound like a fanboy but the reality is what reason would they have to share their knowledge with you? A lot of writers who hold stronger graf values are likely to tell you to piss off and just go do it then you'll learn. I agree with that to some extent. E.g. why would somebody of the likes of sofles, rime, or revok spend time out of their day to tell someone how to sketch, or paint a spot, or even conversate about style? Best is to get out there and have some work on your instagram to show for it. Acknowledging them means if you're sharing a post for example on IG that you might tag them in and comment on how your style might be influenced by them or if one day you end up doing an interview with some magazine or blog that they get a mention.

Definitly i enjoy that the series shows the whole process of each writer, their techniques, habits while painting and all those personal details during the whole process that give shape to each one's style; also enjoy so much to hear their histories and visions about the game.
As recommendation, it would be awesome to put a POV camera also, so you can watch from the eyes of the writer how they work those little things that are special about their stuff! Much respects bro and cant wait to see more.
