Really nice episode and burner piece! For myself, I noted the use of the grid... should try next time. I also agree that painting letter by letter using different colors in the fill is more convenient if any color suddenly ends, but it may take a little longer to paint a whole piece. But the result is more interesting and fresh every time, than when a piece is outlined with one color. Greets!
Thanks brother, I've been holding on to this video since 2016 but had to put it on pause. Better late than never. The whole using heaps of colors for me was born out of necessity. Just embracing the fact that you might run out of a color and working with it. I also used to time myself, e.g. only use a certain color for say 5 minutes then switch back and forth etc. Taking longer to paint it is also fine. Theres this notion in graf that everything has to be rushed and thats what I'm trying to say to a lot of younger guys is to slow it down a bit (depending on the circumstance of course). Thanks again for the feedback man really appreciate it
I remember 2007/2008 Gbak was everywhere along the Auckland train lines 🤣 yous pretty much topped every wall along the tracks. Str8 legends man. 💯🔥 till this day I still wonder how yous done it 🤣🤣🙏🏽
Thanks brother. It took a lot of team to realise the rollers and things but anything is possible. Everybody in the crew has gone on to do great things in their own areas. Still want to bring us all back together!
Everything you said makes perfect sense. I used to be in awe of your pieces, still am for that matter, so running us through the process makes them seem easier to pull off to the untrained eye. The tricky part is finding the balance between choice of complimentary colours for each individual letter whilst still puling off a nice crisp contrasted outline with a proper amount of funk with well layered design elements. And knowing when to stop too haha. I reckon you probably know my mate Kirpy by the way.
Thanks RCF, much appreciated. Always keen to talk about the process and the more dialogue there is the better it is for the whole scene to improve and paint better work. I've still got miles to go to improve so hopefully analysing other people's pieces can also give me a chance to get better. Knowing when to stop is definitely a good question. A good strategy I actually recommend is to take pictures of the process as you go. If you think that the piece is already finished, then flick it and at least you've got it at that stage. From there you won't actually be afraid to keep pushing it or overdoing it. I haven't met Kirpy but he's a dope writer!

Hey hipsonsogbo, this was painted in Auckland in 2016 but it has been buffed now. Been meaning to do the video so long ago. The best way to get murals done is to develop a portfolio first, approach a building owner and then complete a creative nz funding application which offers some money for high quality artworks. That would be the most common legit way to get started from nothing. After you build some momentum you could join the mural circuit and get commissions
