i'm 74 now.....but between 1970 and 1974 i was 21 and spent as many nights as i could listening to Ryan's Fancy at the Strand Lounge, singing along and drinking Blue Star beer.....the experience can't be described in words...the music is only hinted at in this video....3 better matched voices or more talented instrument musicians in the Irish genre is impossible to imagine....and this was before they became famous on tv.....it was the Irish equivalent of The Beatles at the Cavern Club.
My all-time favorite - Dermot was an awesome talent,a true people person and I miss his friendship very much(especially when I head downtown for a fix of traditional music)-jimmy r.
Love it Love Love it. Grew up on this stuff, and bluegrass,, my dad. I'm 44 now. Brings lots of childhood memories back and some of it can be tough to listen to in a sense it will bring a tear to my eye thinking of those old days.
Saw them many times in the late 70s, early 80s. Recorded some of their TV shows on a cassette recorder-pre VCR era. Actually go to sing with them once at a small festival-sang lead on 'Banks of the Ohio; and they played and sang along.
Sitting here now in Halifax, 2024, absolutely loving their music!

I see myself there in the audience that night. Greatest place in the city, and the nicest guys. Might be 1973?

This has got to be one of the best, if not the best, renditions of this Ralph McTell tune.
