THIS WAS AT 'CRITIQUE': 28th-29th of April, 1969. The doors made seven songs in this tv program and then they made an interview. They asked Jim to read some of his poems, he started to read them, but then he stopped because he said that he wasn't able to read them in the right way to express his feelings. He was so humble!!!

This has always been my favorite version of this song because of its true representation of the Doors as a cohesive band of 4 unique and original forces blended into one... Manzarek with his godly and goose bump producing keyboard playing in conjunction with spot on base lines, Krieger with his intricate guitar picking and his own sense of rhythm, Densmore with his tight but mellow and smooth drumming, and of course Mr. Morrison with his natural-born nack for storytelling and beautiful poetry that has moved me to bliss. I will always love this true band .

This song is a shining example of the brilliance that was The Doors, the lyrical depth and fidelity is raw and intriguing which is why Jim is considered a poet, to me this is poetry. The emotional input is there too, this song makes me happy and sad at the same time much like all of their collective works. People today listen to music to bide time when travelling or sitting around with friends, not to listen and appreciate the depth with isn't necessarily prominent in modern music, the lyrics are second place to a good sounding beat. This is why The Doors had no predecessors or successors, they were perfectly unique and produced in my opinion the very best of music in such as short time.

    Your life's complete

Can't you see me growing, get your guns
    The time has come
    To follow me down
    Follow me across the sea
Where milky babies seem to be
    Molded, flowing revelry
With the one that set them free
Tell all the people that you see
    It's just me
    Follow me down, yeah
Tell all the people that you see
    Follow me
    Follow me down

    Set them free
    Follow me down

As a 24 year old Doorshead, this blows the album version out of the water. Infinitely better then the studio version. 🚪

Really great performance in 1969 of a new bearded Jimbo..the new look and the same expressive magnetism..really cool the Manzarek keyboards..great old times

This may sound weird, but when I first heard this song and saw this video, Jim's beard and the lyrics in this song made me wonder, "Is Jim Morrison the second coming of Jesus Christ?" I didn't really believe it, but this song sounds like something Jesus would sing. Such deep lyrics. He was an unbelievably great poet and songwriter. RIP, Jim Morrison.

the doors music was head of it's time back then and is still way ahead of it's time today , their music still sounds fresh and still has something to say, todays music does not have the same effect on things at all like the doors did back in the day at all. when the doors were making music it was because they had something to say talking about peace and love not violence. but today things are not going in the right direction at all not for the better that i can see.
