I'm surprised at the S2000's low trap speed at the end of the straight, even taking into account the wet conditions. I think the S2K usually manages 158 - 162km/h in the dry. Anyway thanks for the upload again! Really enjoying all these BM vids :)
Paolo Inigo All due respect, but from what I've seen (various comparos, timed acceleration tests, track times etc), no they're not. The AP1/AP2 should be quicker than all of them, although it is close enough to be a driver's race. I agree it is mostly due to the FR set-up in wet conditions, as the JDM S15 Spec R also suffered in that race. I currently own an FN2R & S2K (AP1), and used to have a DC2R which I miss a lot. :)

fwd has more weight on the traction wheels (60/40 or more while the s2000 has 50/50). on low grip there is less weight transfer for the s2000to benefit from basically weight transfer (braking/accelerating) helps rwd and is against fwd.
Not bad I guess. The Audi makes similar power to the DC5, EP3 and S2000 however the weight disadvantage held it back, regardless they're all great cars.

+outofspace2014 Most definitely, I'm not disregarding the fact that the Audi was more geared to everyday Road comfort so even though it's a 'Sporty' model, it will never be as well set up as an any Type R in Stock form. Also, lots of low end could be good for corner exit but only on something with 4WD. FWD wouldn't cope as well as all that torque is converted to wheelspin especially on a car without an LSD.
being FR is a disadvantage in the rain. FF is more advantageous in the rain. FF has faster exit cornering acceleration in the rain wich means it has faster straight line speed, even if it has less hp. Also the weight plays a big role. There was nothing wrong with the S200. It just was in a disadvantageous position in this race.

Iesa Rahman You’re right Euro spec EP3 has different (taller) gearing No LSD And only 200 hp. JDM EP3 is ~220 hp Shorter gearing and has LSD (and awesome factory recaro seats too)
Type S still have a big difference than the type R, type R is more than 100kg lighter than the rsx s with only 1180kg, and engine cams and internals are so much different plus the chassis is reinforced on the type R
TBH...no matter if you have a type s or a base... wait till you sit in a real Dc5 type R... you will understand how much different they are, not just straight line speed but also cornering...
AeroPrixma the problem is not the front axle weight. No lsd, tyre size and alignment is and the other cars have all this things improved from factory, I had an s3 with this setup and no dc2, ep3, dc5 can catch me (only my dad’s ef8 crx)
Torsen was the first type of quattro in audi lineup, and it was fully mechanical. Haldex on the other hand is computer aided, so one can argue, if it is a true quattro.
Tajemni3 the quattro name is only the designation, they are Torsen like you said and the haldex electronicaly controlled by adding oil pressure to a clutch pack. None is better, only thing is that the haldex is the most refined and the one that lamborghini, bugatti, r8 (in the front axle) and ttrs (more sportier vag cars) uses and the torsen is the one that old car or non track oriented car uses, do you still want to argue is haldex deserves the quattro designation?
the S3 isn't really awd, due to his haldex system and the driver wasn't really pushing, but lets be honest Audi S3's are meant to be tuned. the 1.8T handles shit ton of power
You can shift any car without letting go of the gas to save on the shift time - however, this puts massive strain on the clutch plate and will wear out your transmission very quickly. But these drivers don't own or pay for these cars, so I guess they do whatever they want with them lol.
boris-ep3 i had an s3 and some hondas and i have to say that my old s3 was faster in corners that every honda i had (dc2, dc5, ep3, crx ef8 now) but with proper alignment, lsd, coilovers and tyres

Stock DC2/5, EK9 are faster than Stock AP1/2. Tuned AP1/2 would be a different story. I guess RWD on wet track might be a factor as well

My 1.8t cupra r feels as if the torque peaks at 4000 and power at 6000 although it has been remapped to 260bhp. That would be useful for corner exit?

What was wrong with the S2000? I thought it would have no issue passing DC5 and EP3, but these 2 cars got even faster lap times as well.
If you've ever driven an s2000 you'd know how hard it is to keep that car under control in the rain.
