“A note to anyone who needs to hear it: We don’t ‘get over’ or ‘move on’ from our trauma. We are forced to make space for it. We carry it. We learn to live with it. And, sometimes, we thrive in spite of it.” Much love. 💙💙💙💙

I agree with you. I have been very successful in my adult life; good career, good marriage, 3 amazing children and now waiting on my first grandchild - despite my traumatic childhood, I just decided that I wasn’t going to repeat the same shit and I even eventually moved to a different country and never looked back!

So true, both of these comments! I had a pretty crappy childhood, but I too have raised our 3 sons, enjoyed a career in teaching; in other words, turned the abuse around. Mother tried to be aggressive and talk about the devil to my children. Despite my fear, I refused to allow it though. The only time I was brave was when this happened, and I’m ridiculously proud of it! Well done to all those who not only survived, but turned the abuse around too. We are amazing! ❤

My grandad had a dog too untill they sold him. He came back to my grandad to be with him. He swam miles.
Dogs get kids through the abuse and horrific crap they have to put up with. My grandad hated his mum and burnes all her photos. I think she was abusive. One example was she kicked him out and made him sleep on his own at ten.
I don't know if that was the norm. But my grandad always came back to her. He visited her and brought his children to visit her. Yet once she died he went nuts and burned all his photos.
My dad says she Sexually abused him. And tried to force him into being a minister.
I remember my grandad being completely devoid of any sanity. He drank a bottle of whisky a day. But apparently he was a a very smart man. Head of education of his district. But abused, and neglectful, violent.
I don't remember my grandad being sober at all. And my parents let me be around this man. He used to scare the shit out of us with horrible stories while pissed. The angry sheep.

The connection completely makes sense, when i was living abroad i took a stray street dog in as it was winter, cold and wet, i made up a snug bed for it, the dog just pined at the door wanting to go back outside. Its the same with homeless people on the street, they feel more at ease being outside or sitting on a floor. It facinates me how we as humans adapt to things. When i was living a life of luxury, if you like, in a beautiful, hot, mediterian country, and I actually missed the grind of having to get up on a cold and frosty morning and commute to work on a packed train - it's mad.

This was a masterclass in podcasting. The way in which James approached this one, by the time they wrapped, it felt like we'd been privy to two gentleman having a very deep and meaningful conversation, the way men do...with humour. There was a beauty to it, witnessing Christopher, despite the horrific experiences he had to detail in order for the audience to have a better understanding of the abuse he'd suffered, sitting so comfortable and relaxed because James was able to break through his emotional barrier's creating a safe space for him to share. This one highlights the unique skill James posses' which happens to be the key component when you're tasked with telling a sensitive story such as this. It can't be faked, it can't be forced, it certainly can't t be replicated because you simply have it or you don't. I sense a real friendship was born between these two and I can totally appreciate why. If you take his childhood out of it, all you hear is a down to earth, thoughtful, gentle yet courageous, fun, pint of beer on a Sunday afternoon and a kick about with the boy kind of father, who'd be the best kind of friend or family man to have around. If he can evolve into this wonderful young man given the emotional burdens from his past that he's still healing from today then there's hope for the rest of us. I hope Christopher and his surviving siblings' futures continue to become brighter and that the Anything Goes podcast star keeps rising. Well done both. ❤

Kids take note, when complaining about your McDonald's been to cold or your fortnite pass has ran out, think how tough life could be and how lucky you are to have it all. I can't belive the attitude and maturity of this guy, he has character and spirit with such a degree of courage and resilience , you are truly a model citizen, I hope and prey the rest of your life is full of happiness and peace, honestly hats off to your strength

Ma5e I came from a lot of trauma 22 years of it n ppl abusing n taki advatange of my suffering until I was 30... I still have cold mcdonalds n complain having to heat it up even though I get on with it but I suffer flashbacks n ibs issues n anxiety attacks n nightmares of the abuse n depend on things like McDonald's if I was able to cook I would those days I dont order mcdonalds to have to heat my food before I can eat it cos I really don't eat all day n that is my only meal for the day. People seem to think about the last is in the past or if it isn't then it's our fault. But trauma plays in every aspect of your life forever. It's on going as is the healing struggles and hard work.

What an absolute legend of a bloke as what happened to him couldn’t of happened to a nicer person who has such a good sense of humour . How can someone treat another human being like that let alone a child and she truly is the most evil mum in Britain if not the world. Massive respect to Christopher who is so brave for telling his story.

This dude's ability to live his life with this level of trauma is incredible!! He laughs through it all when talking about really difficult stuff, i believe to mask the pain he feels inside. But thats one of the most amazing things about him, many people suffer less and act out badly. I'd say he's a testiment to the people who raised him.. but instead he's a testiment to hinself. Its sad because he'll never be free from the trauma he suffered but he is so awe inspiring at the same time. Because inspite of it all he seems to be thriving, has a kid of his own and is just getting on with life. ❤
