Tama Starclassic Bubinga
Remo Emporers
Vic Firth Buddy Rich Sticks
Sabian Cymbals
I think I speak for everyone when I say we REALLY appreciate when you do one of these videos Blake! They are always top notch quality and your performance is always nothing short of perfect! Thanks again Blake, any more of these you can find the time to do will be MUCH appreciated!
Well put!
Just casually playing with his hair and making it look like a walk in the park. A damn machine. Blake is a legend.
Reading all these comments makes me honored to have these guys as friends and peers for the years I did... A blessing keep it up. CAMEL CITY BABY
Didn't know him until i found him on GetGood Drums under midi libraries. Well, now i know who he is. A hell of a drummer!
A friend described Blake to me once as "He does exactly what he needs to do"
This is by far the best explanation of Blake Richardson on a drum kit.
True! I feel he's not stretching himself enough in the last 3 BTBAM records. His drumming is perfect, but the band (with this "regular prog" direction they've taken) doesn't play that face melting, crunchy parts anymore, so he has to hold himself back, you know? Makes me sad to know he won't write and play something like Swim to the Moon or Fossil Genera anymore :-/
@@beto1580 I mean, he might? But he also is still part of the band and loving it, so who's to say he's not already over blast beating?
@@beto1580 It could easily be that they've gotten older and are trying to write some more coherent music in general. It's perfectly understandable that you want to try different things. But I do think that the drumming from colors to the parallax were the best he's done.
@@fVNzO IDK to me it seems more like they're trying fewer different things than they were before, Colors is overwhelmingly more ambitious than anything they've done since, to me it's more them getting comfortable in their formula than trying something new
All those time signatures and you make it all come alive. Well done. New fan
I went to school with this man and have got the pleasure of playing music with him and the other members but I went to high school with him and I also play drums. We both where part of the local metal scene here in the Triad especially Camel City (winston salem, nc) To see where my comrades went and how far they took their art, I am blown away and to say Blake Is one of the best drummers to ever live and I have some chops my self ask him personally if you don't believe me.... My name is Jacob Smith and we went to MT. Tabor high school in winston- salem, nc.. LOVE YOU GUYS KEEP NC ON THE MAP GOAT
Drummers out there ! Excellent example of a nutural and not edited drum track. You can hear tiny rushes here and there, but that's all about energy and this kit sounds off the hook damn... No cheating, only great playing and great sources ! 10 fast minutes here :)
you should do a playthrough of yellow eyes next, m'dude.
actually just playthrough every btbam song
edit: now that i think about it, just playthrough every song ever made
i guess that means every song from other universe too
The complexity and the amount of different patterns is amazing. I really don’t get how you build a song like this. Master craftsmanship!
That kit sounds amazing! The snare cracks like a punch to the face and the kick pretty much kicks you right in the gut! That's probably the best sounding Tama kit I've ever heard! I don't even need to mention the drumming because we all know Blake is a seriously bad ass drummer and this performance shows that..top notch!!
One of my favorite drummers and musical inspirations for almost 12 years now. Keep it up, Blake! Love you!
Been a huge fan of yours ever since the Glass Casket days and since you joined BTBAM back in the Alaska days you've always pushed the boundary for what drumming is and can be, just so damn creative! Love what you do man keep it up!
I love the synchronicity with this band!
My bro, I don't see how u remember all that. Lol. U fill every space in the song beautifully. Such an awesome performance. Nice job.
this kit is so beautiful!!!! #loveTAMA
7:25 gives me chills everytime. Such a good song. Amazing playthrough.
4:51 sounds like DT to a T..... lol love this guy. Smooth as silk.
2:54 & 9:10 will always be a staple of the song for me. Just perpetually catchy, moving, beautiful and pure talent in song writing. Just amazing stuff. you guys don't get enough recognition.
so much more nuanced than older stuff like obfuscation and autodidact. love the style, and this album is my 3rd favorite BTBAM release. thanks blake
Damn Richardson. Back it at again with the white Vans.
I’ve watched this at least once a day since it was uploaded. Can’t get enough of it.
That's a wicked kit and sound setup. Must be fun as hell to play. Loving the play throughs and both Automatas. Keep it up!
Love the song, love the playing, love the sound, love the camera angles...
Blakeyeatsteaky back at it again with the hot FIRE!
Beast Richardson is a legend.
Can we get a play through of Yellow Eyes? That might be my favorite drumming song from you of all time. It's so intensive and fun to listen to
Love that kit
I love this song man! Must feel so sick to play it live. @2:56 is such a powerful section! Thanks for this
best starclassic finish ever... that bell brass too
Definitely one of the elite drummers at the moment, with the best drum combination (Sabian and Tama) too!
Missed you with my other favorite leprous but I can't wait till you guys do a full album tour Blake your a legend!
That snare is like a punch in the face!!
Oh how BTBAM has turned into the new Dream Theatre. They sound so different. But I still dig it. But I remember my high school days and watching these dudes at The Gate here in town. I had just finished laying a tile floor with my dad and he dropped me off just in time to see them. Awesome show.
Thank you, Blake! Rock on! Can't wait to see you live in November in cologne!
Oh how I'd love to talk cymbals with you!!! I love you play the groove hats now!
Much love,
One of Joe's students
Absolutely Tasty! You got the soft touch! 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Beaut. And one of the best kick angels I’ve seen
I saw you lately in Toulouse (FR) , and it really confirmed what I thought : you're the best drummer of all times . Going to a BTBAM live was the best idea I had in my life.
I wasn't ready for this
God I love the part at 4 mins, its so fuckin dirty yet simple
1:18 My face when i listened the full automata album
Check off another BTBAM song that doesn't need drum covers anymore. God damn Blake you're awesome !
I love it man.. I love how.i can learn alot from you by just watching you.. awesome shit man
I love Blake's playing he's definitely my favorite drummer and he influences me alot but all I can see now is his hair flip
Incredible, thanks Blake!
lol " the smash hit "Blot"". We love you Blakey.
Great song, great video!
Got Tama starclassic kits for days but this new Tama starclassic bubinga hyperdrive kit with that limited edition finish is one of the sexiest looking and sounding kits I’ve ever heard. This kit was the best sounding kit when I saw them live couple months ago
This drummer ain't bad at all. He has potential to be the all time great.
What a beast! Top 10 drummer to me
it's amazing that you do this
Awesome performance!
Absolutely incredible! I hope to see a playthrough of Voice of Trespass in the future! Awesome job
Awesome playthrough man. Love your stuff. I hope you do more of these in the future!
Saw BTBAM live a couple of months back and was really happy to see they put Blake upfront in the middle of the stage :) With a drummer like that it would be a shame to put him in the background...
Absolutely beautiful man
Just incredible!! You guys are awesome! Saw you with DTP and Leprous in Barcelona! Hope you come back anytime soon!
I love you Blake!
*so crisp*
*so clean*
The dude feels the music and plays with his eyes closed..
What a god among men.
That was amazingly tight, drums sounds awesome. I felt a Mike Portnoy feel too.
Hey Blake, big fan.
I couldn’t help notice your cobras, is that the ACD drive shaft and prototype direct drive?
Also you only have the direct drive on the kick side, and chain on the left?
Do more live in studio blu-rays, pretty please with sugar on top
Absolutely nailed it! Dude! After all these years you're still some kind of Cyborg :D Thanks for inspiring me so much!
How 'bout drumming "Voice Of Trespass" with traditional grip and wearing a tie and a hat? :-D
4:27 onwards was smooth AF :)
CIRCULAR
The best.
Blake out here looking and playing like Drum Jesus
So awesome🤘🏼
amazing! thanks Blake!!
Can't wait for more playthroughs! I've always been a huge fan of your drumming. Also is it just me or did you convert your main pedal to a direct drive?
It looks like it, a thin solid link where a fat double chain should be. Gonna look into this, I have iron cobras too
I saw that too. Also, what kind of shaft is that? Some sort of prototype? (look at the edge near the linkage) I haven't seen anything like it from Tama.
I really like the Toms in this video, it's not like how Mike portnoys high Tom's always sounded cartoonish in fact I disliked their sound so much that it took away from some really good parts of their songs, but with Blake they feel like they genuinely have a place in this peace, they're gracefully written in on top of how ambient and beautiful the symbols are
Please do this for every song. From every cd.
I get a lot of Portnoy and Carey vibes from this playthrough :D
Mmm that kick. A lot of low end for a metal kick, i wish more guys would tune/eq like this.
right on brother!
Thanks for doing this man, will you be doing more play throughs?
Amazing as usual! The Gavin Harrison of Prog Metal!
I would love a recording of The Proverbial Bellow in the manner that Porcupine Tree recorded Anesthetize Live, with all the separate drum cams. I think my life would be complete.
Lucas Manzi Gavin is prog. I don't know how much more prog you can get than playing in King Crimson.
@@mtlman906 yeah but he's on the prog ROCK sphere.. Blakey is on Metal side
The real question is do you actually have the backing track in ears or literally just the click like when you record?
The fact that he can record his parts with simply the click speaks a level of musicianship that to me seems out of this world.
I'm no drummer, but that sounds amazing!
If anyone is ever confused on where the measures start, just wait for Blake's hair flips.
oof midroll ads in a music performance
i think this is a setting if its not intentional
so damn amazing BTBAM is just the fucking best
That ride is perfection 😍😍 what is it ?
That live kick drum tone has gotten clickier and clickier since Automata was released. It was the first thing I noticed when I saw them do that quick tour with Leprous and Dear Hunter at the Dallas stop. I honestly thought it was fluke because Blake seemed to run out and change the kick mic right before they went on and then do a quick check. I could hear everything still being leveled out by the third song in the set. I guess Blake just prefers the presence it adds now.
Blake you always fucking kill it! Please do Voice of Trespass next?
Thats a fucking tight sounds!
Nice vid Blake keep em coming no better person to cover this fo sho luv the kit btw
Yesss!
BTBAM drums>soap cutting.
I love Blake Richardson playthroughs so much I'm willing to ignore the fact that I hate how the drums were mixed.
Alex H Except that snare. Sounds so raw, and shows just how great he is at tuning his drums. But yeah
Between the Between drummer and Me
Please play some live play throughs of anything off Colors.
do the proverbial bellow next plz luv u
YESSSS!!!
Play through of the whole album PUH LEASE!
I really like the floor tom setup! What size is that bass drum?
Interesting drummer
At 5:05, is there a reason he rests the left beater on the kick while playing that beat with his right foot? I'm assuming it reduces the resonance of the the kick, giving him a tighter kick sound. Anyone else notice that? Blake... comment please?
Make speed 2x
Please let me have of one of those kits in the background??
I still can't tell if metal drummers always have insane calves solely from drumming or if they workout their calves to get better endurance/speed/etc.
