Not many people know that John Hawkes and his team worked all through the night to get his hoof right. He wasn't racing if that didn't get right. And it literally was all through the night. Thats how incredible and how much of a champion this horse is. He wasnt %100 going into the Australian Cup and would have been feeling every stride out there, yet his will to win shone through as usual.
The Zabeel X Eight Carat breeding shows doesn't !!!!!!! .......Growing up in Australia was lucky to see the Big O race !!!!!! Remember it till the day I die !!!!!
@@owen7185 I disagree mate even though he had a handful of starts occy was an exceptional horse . 2nd in the Golden slipper as a 2 year old, then multiple group 1 as a three year old. Only the good 3 year olds win cox plates. And look at the 3 year olds of his generation, saintly Melbourne cup, nothin Leica Dane , filante, juggler all top liners. I'm sorry to say mouwad wouldn't beat that lot.
Octagonal looked beaten all day in the Australian Cup. Amazing to win from that position against a field of exceptionally talented horses.

He was the epitome of equine courage, that's why the crowd cheered him so much.
What a champ he just knew where the line was and just did enough to always stick his head out.
Passed his looks and brilliance unto his famous son Lonrho...

Then they delivered Mouawad, I'll go out on a limb and say that he's probably even better than the Big O

If Octagonal got in front of you, you could not beat him. Fact. Dye in the Chipping Norton was v v smart.
Just knew where the finish line was.a great horse
Possibly the most audacious GROUP ONE ride ever in AUS nxt to LASQUETI SPIRIT in OAKS
Tappy New . Dye has got Octagonal in full flight on the corner.
Love seeing Jack Ingham walk his champion back to scale. Looks just like walking his pet dog, Big O is so relaxed and easy going
Octagonal always settled really well in every race....no waste of energy....chuck in miles of ability ......champ
Shane Dye….absolute champion
Chipping Norton was impressive
Circles of Gold, who clearly wanted to run a lot faster, went on to sire Elvstreom, Haradasun, and (Granddaughter) Highland Reel.
Australites SHE didn't sire ANYTHING idiot.
Loved the big black
The greatest
What a champ
Had no right to win the Australian. Just too good.
Handi cup
