    One of my favorite things about Saf (aside from her personality), is how price conscious she is. Almost all of her videos on stuff like this, even if she really likes something, if she thinks it's to pricey (which happens pretty often) she doesn't ignore it and just say "go buy it", she evaluates it and compares it to other stuff, then decides if it's worth the price. Not to say that other youtubers openly indorse overly expensive things, but price is something that not a lot of youtubers I watch seem to pay attention to.

      eli hauser poor people are just pretending, modern people with computers can't possibly be poor. Gosh can't they just make more money? Stop complaining jeez. Poor people are such a drain on society so no one should ever help them. (Obvious Sarcasm) Yes you can be poor enough to not want to waste $44 (some people live off of that for groceries or bills) and still have an Internet connection... Actually I pay right around the amount you would pay for that shampoo for my internet connection but the difference is my internet connection allows me to do my work for college and pay my bills and buy things cheaper online and access free entertainment like on UA-cam. Shampoo just cleans my hair. 😅

      jesus fuck calm down, just because she says she's poor doesn't mean that she's downright poor to the point that she can't even put food on the table. You don't have to be in middle class to own electronics, you can be in between poor and middle class and have enough money for some luxury. What she means is that she can't just spend all her money on everything she wants. Don't get so triggered just because you don't know how to take a joke.

    Maybe the reason your scalp is oily is
    Since your washing your hair every day, your stripping all the natural oils causing your scalp to over produce oil to keep the oils
    Just a thought! Love your channel ♥️

      @definitelynotashark1799 5 років тому +155

      I have a super oily scalp and dry ends and also oily and dehydrated skin (thanks for that, wth). I tried this thing where you don't wash your hair for a while to "reset it" several times and I tried washing every 3 days over several months, but the only thing that keeps my hair fresh for more than one day at a time is dry shampoo. So now I do 4 days between washes and outrageous amounts of dry shampoo on day 2, which keeps my hair OK. Not a fan in terms of environmental friendliness.

    • @lenemuren3668

    • @briananicole2091
      @briananicole2091 5 років тому +65

      In order to properly reset your hair you cant use dry shampoo because it is acting as if your washing your hair so it makes no difference. Also dry shampoo is bad for your hair because it clogs your hair follicles which can make your hair grow slower. You have to let your hair be oily for a bit which sucks but in the end it worth it

    • @BeyondBrii
      @BeyondBrii 5 років тому +17

      yes this! except my scalp is still oily (just nowhere near as fast or as much) even though I only wash it 1-2 a week. Also I use dry shampoo sometimes and it really doesn’t affect it in the same way washing does, so I think with that, YMMV.

    • @shanicelol2970
      @shanicelol2970 4 роки тому +7

      It’s better to take a week off for your hair and let it go like all oily like full on and then wash it after that. It won’t get that Oily that’s fast anymore it’s a break for your hair. I also noticed people wrote to not put conditioner on your scalp I’ve been doing it for my wavy thick hair and my scalp gets oily after 5-7 days wich I believe is pretty slow. It’s obv always personal but that’s my experience. Giving your hair a break and massaging your scalp with coconut oil once in a while might make a big difference.

    Gotta say I’m honestly really glad that Saf did this video. My hair had been extremely dried and damaged from years of washing every day and often multiple times a day as a way of combating greasy hair. I wanted to get a good shampoo and conditioner but never had the guts to pay out the nose to just try something and risk it not working. Seeing actual results from this video gave me the guts to try the Function brand and I swear my hair has never been so healthy. (Btw if you buy the 16oz bottles and use only 2 pumps every day, it lasts more than 3 months and runs out around the same time. Depending on how much you pay for shampoo and how fast you go through it I think it’s worth it.)

    I'm biased because I'm a hairdresser and I believe in using quality products on your hair but I really could tell a difference in your hair at the end of the week. Salon quality products are generally more concentrated so you can use about half the amount you would normally with store brand shampoos and conditioners.
    A lot of these products from target contain harsh chemicals and unnecessary fillers that can make your dandruff worse and dry out you hair as well, keeping natural oils from making your hair feel healthy and look shiny.
    I had never heard of this brand before your video, but if it works for you (and removes the need for extra dandruff treatment) then I would invest in good product. Obviously hair isn't as important to everyone else and it is expensive but you'll get what you pay for when it comes to these products.
    Also this was my first UA-cam comment so 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    • @theamikolajczyk3625
      @theamikolajczyk3625 7 років тому +97

      Haneen K no I wouldn't use it, head and shoulders has a lot of harsh chemicals that hurt your hair along with the dandruff treatment so I would stay away from that.
      Dandruff is a fungal infection so seeing a dermatologist would be your best option. A lot of people who think they have dandruff actually have a dry scalp with flakiness so I would look up pictures to be sure.
      Products with tea tree (if you aren't allergic) can help to clear up your scalp a lot, Paul Mitchell has a really good tea tree shampoo, but I'm sure most drug stores will also have a tea tree shampoo. Hope that helps

      You're not supposed to use it on your scalp regardless of what type of hair you have. That's not its purpose. Well, I actually don't know if this applies to coily hair. I think so though.

  • @sebastianlugo5781
    @sebastianlugo5781 7 років тому +216

    A large part of your oil and dandruff problems is probably due to the fact that you wash your hair daily without conditioning as much. Over washing can result in your scalp being dry below the skin which causes your body to defend itself by producing extra oil because it's there to protect you. You should condition every time you wash your hair and try to cut back on shampooing, for most people it's at max four times a week. I used to wash my hair daily and it would get super oily but the hair itself would frizz, as of now I wash it once to twice a week. Obviously that might not perfectly match your hair type but you should be conditioning every time you shampoo, even if you don't reduce.

      Nikolai Lugo yes and washing hair daily is bad for you anyway. Even showering daily is bad for you. My hair used to get really greasy the second day so I’d wash it and condition it every night but when I moved out at 18, I started washing it much less and now I can go a week w/o washing it and it’s still super shiny soft and not greasy at all. Weird stuff.

    • @TheAlexandra211

      Nikolai Lugo Yes that is true but not for everyone. A couple of years back I had some dandruff and I quickly realized what it was. I started using Garnier Fructis shampoo. But once I stopped using it my dandruff just went away. I tried using that brand again and once again I started getting dandruff. I don't know what it is about that brand but I can't use it. Those are the only two times I've ever had dandruff and I was my hair almost everyday.

      It depends on much more than how many times you wash your hair. Everyone is different. I bought the Devacurl Co-wash and moisturizing conditioner which is supposed to address dryness. It gave me SO MUCH DANDRUFF. Like the type that makes it snow on your shoulders. And it's a high end hydrating type without shampooing set for curly hair.

    your hair looks markedly different at the end. it's noticeably shinier, and looks much smoother, particularly at the ends. I also noted that your regular shampoo is for dry scalp, which may be aggravating your dandruff. quality products make a big difference, and frankly I'd hide the really good ones from my boyfriend. most guys are really wasteful with beauty products, because they don't appreciate how much they cost.

      @@sappy.3xe I have very fine hair so it's somewhat thin. Oily scalp, there was some old, heavily damaged hair, etc. The first time, my hair was a tri-colored absolute mess, but it didn't take out the color at all (one of the options I selected was color protection). My hair was very damaged from years of abuse, but this stuff still made it look and feel shiny and healthy. Even with washing my hair every day, it grew faster than it ever had, and I eventually chopped off 7 inches of damaged hair. That was in November, and it's already almost back to the length of was before; it's about 3 inches off. My hair got softer, healthier, shinier, started growing quickly, all that good stuff that I had never had for my hair before, despite (still to this day) washing my hair every day. Highly recommend, even my boyfriend is considering trying it lol
      Sorry for the wall of text, hope this helps!

      @lisahenry20 4 роки тому +1

      I bought some recently and have been using it for about a month. I literally haven't noticed any difference. The main reasons I tried using it was because my hair is really frizzy pretty much all my life and has been breaking really easily the past few years (and this was before I first dyed my hair) and after a month of using it and washing my hair once every two or three days like I normally do, there has been no change. I do like the bottles and being able to pick scents and have strong scents since my hair doesn't hold onto smells well at all but it's too expensive just for that. I'm better off just trying to find a brand that's more expensive than I normally use but not as expensive as fob which actually does something with my hair.

    I will say, your hair definitely started looking straighter by day 4. The initial fluff was gone and left behind a soft looking straight hair. Also, just in case you want to try it for yourself, you can buy essential oils and add them to your shampoo. Tea tree, eucalyptus, and rosemary are all excellent options for dandruff and oil. Geranium is good for balancing oil production (I just don't love the smell, but it can be hidden with other scents). Thought I'd share. Aim for Aura Cacia or Plant Therapy for affordable, but still actually pure oils. ☺️

    I noticed such a difference in your hair that it has me considering this shampoo. (Of course my hair is just starting to grow back because I'm doing chemotherapy, so it would last me quite some time!) Your hair definitely started to look sleeker, and shinier (without being oily) as the week progressed. It's good to switch it up on your hair, because when you use the same shampoo for a long time, you start to become unaware of what your hair is actually doing. (If that makes any sense haha.)
    I'd say keep getting it, and throwing it into your routine, especially before big events etc. :)

So what I recommend you to do is use coconut oil on your scalp and on the baby hairs you'll get, it makes it super soft and helps A LOT with the dryness on the scalp (mine was really dry,) your hair might grow back with a different texture, mine was wavy and now it'd super curly! Also, darker. Hope these helps.

    PSA: To help combat dandruff do not put conditioner on your scalp! Think of the shampoo as the cleaning agent and the conditioner as the nourishment replenisher. You already have a lot of nourishment and moisture on your scalp so if you put more nourishment on top then you will get an overload and you can get dandruff

    • @samanthajames6506
      @samanthajames6506 6 років тому +5

      Jaclyn Herrera the conditioner makes your scalp oilier . I know because I had dandruff for the LONGEST time. My hairdresser noticed it and she just told my mom to try some ways to get rid of it like keep conditioner on my tips, don’t use detangler as there are many oils in it that makes your ENTIRE head of hair oily. You also can’t wash you hair every day. This damages and oils your hair which can later cause dandruff
