hello friends!!! a couple of quick disclaimers - i want to note there *are* other contributing factors to dandruff besides just dirty scalp - i think in my case, I just have a lot of buildup, and arisa zeroed in on that in relation to my particular head. so if you have dandruff, you might have a different problem than i did! also - i noticed that some of you guys are skeptical about some of the ingredients of the products & the treatment as a whole - totally fair for you guys to have criticisms about it, i wasn't trying to vouch for every individual ingredient, or for how effective this would be for every body - i personally enjoyed it, and i just thought it would be interesting to know what they say are the active ingredients. i'll be sure to keep your thoughts in mind for next time we make a video in this arena. xoxo, saf ❤

They aren't gonna say "Oh yeah it looks great! You really don't need this therapy, here's your money back!" The beauty industry thrives on people's insecurities. Now they are capitalizing on people's scalps. I know everybody's gotta make the rent, but I really don't think people need this unless they have severe dandruff and oil issues. In general though I'm sure most of us including Safiya don't need to spend money on this. Makes for a great video though.

I cannot express how absurdly in favor of Spa Husband I am. Not only does Tyler deserve it, but only good things can come from showing that spa treatments aren't just for women, but for ALL people! Seriously. Mani/pedi, facials, body wraps, skin treatments, massages, hydrotubs, all these things can be incredibly beneficial to ANY man, woman, or other. It's not just a girly girl thing!
I've always been here for Safiya's dancing and eyebrow waggles (yes, that is why I am here, specifically). But I find that pampering Tyler pleases me very greatly as well. MOAR PLZ.

Agreed I wish men taking care of themselves was more normalized. I hate that everything labeled "men" when it comes to beauty products of any kind are all like gross "musk" smells and usually combining multiple things.. like they have "Men's body wash" but it's also shampoo and conditioner and just smells like musk.. lol I, as a man, have wanted to do things like you listed and now even this, but always feel weird doing it because of how people react to it. I've had professionals even tell me it's weird and I'm just like "No, you're just a horrible human for thinking it's weird." It's hard enough normalizing men having long hair even though that's at least making progress.

@@oliviaaugust5744 Huh, I never thought of it that way lol. That's just how I talk about people in general. I think everyone deserves pampering, and I'm very pleased to see people engaging in such self care, regardless of whether they are married to someone or not.
Then again, almost all my friends are men, most of them are in relationships with women other than me, and I'll talk this way about them, so it might just be a 'me' thing. 😆

Saf's scalp from the before images were normal. She isn't experiencing hair loss at all from those photos. You will notice hair loss when the majority of hair pores only have 1-2 stands of hair. She had a healthy mix of 2-3 and 1-2s. Also most of the time single strand hairs are because of growth, more hair will eventually grow in those pores. In regards to her scalp, yes there a bit of build up, but that's normal and can be tackled with a clarifying shampoo or just cleansing your hair 2-3 times in the shower especially if you only wash your hair a few times a week. Also dandruff is a fungal infection. Which can be indicated my little yellow balls or clumps on the scalp. Most people mistake dandruff to just flakes which is normal.
If you do have dandruff you need a treatment shampoo that is normally given by a dermatologist or specialty brand. That shampoo is often pH balancing which will help tackle the fungal infection and keep it at bay whislt keeping your scalp and hair clean and healthy.
I wish I could make a video reply to his because I did study how the scalp and hair works and a lot of the information provided to her was a bit misleading. I don't want to discredit the salon, but this "treatment" can be done at home. If anything just changing your routine a little will do wonders for your hair and scalp. I always tell clients to treat your scalp and hair the same way you would treat your face, lashes, and brows.
Use a gentle cleansing shampoo 1-2 times depending on hair wash cycle. Condition or use a mask at the end and what ever SMALL amount you have left gently massage onto the scalp just to bring moisture back to you scalp. *Think of your scalp as an extension of your face.*
Make sure to thoroughly rinse out all the products and try to wash your hair with cold to luke warm water. Hot water will strip your hair and scalp of all its natural oils leaving your scalp raw, red, and dry. If you must shower hot, do a a few minutes of a cold burst of water to relax the scalp.
Post shower you can apply you leave in conditioner to the ends of hair and a little on the scalp and just blow dry or air dry per usual.
Of course getting this treatment is nice and done, but at the end of the day speak to a dermatologist if you are concerned with any dandruff or hair loss.
Hair loss is contributed to many factors but mostly genetics and hormonal issues. A dirty scalp rarely contributes to hair loss/thinning. Will it stunt hair growth? Possibly, but not stop it all together. Hair loss is mostly based of DNA and genetics. The biggest indicator or hair loss and thinning is concerning amount of hair fall out during showers or your pony tails or buns over time have significantly been getting thinner or lighter.

Just a note about the little hairs on top, the thickness can be impacted by the growing cycle. We are constantly shedding and growing hair. The baby hairs growing out haven't advanced to their final thickness that will be at the end of the growing cycle. So yes and no about the thinner hairs. I would love to get this done because it looks relaxing but I can't get over how the woman talks to Safiya. A lot of what she was saying sounded to me like she's trying to make her feel bad or scare her into getting more treatments etc. Also dandruff is not caused from a dirty scalp like she said.

    • @BrandonL_00
      @BrandonL_00 2 роки тому

Now that you mention it, there's this thing that hair stylists do to scare you. They get a section of your hair and use scissors to scrape up and down, revealing a buildup that supposedly your store bought shampoo/conditioner has caused. They say that the ones they sell at that salon will remove the buildup. This wax buildup is perfectly natural for hair to have. This is just a tactic for the stylist can trick customers to sell their products. I think they call it the scrape/wax test. Just putting this out there.

Like a lot of that “build up” just looked like standard sebum on the scalp. I’d love if you went again, if you compared your freshly washed scalp as the before to see if any of their treatments clean deeper than standard shampoo. It ultimately felt like they were convincing you that you had to come back or you’ll lose your hair faster. This video was so good though and loved the ASMR segments. As far as I know not washing your hair for a few days is better for the scalp than washing it everyday and it's nothing to be disgusted by. So many normal body related things are demonised by the beauty industry to make money and the resulting indoctrination is quite damaging to people's relationships with their bodies and selfworth. A small science based section for those kind of videos would be nice to balance things out. "As far as I know not washing your hair for a few days is better for the scalp than washing it everyday"
This actually depends a lot on the person's scalp and how much oil it produces. If you produce a lot of oil, you really should wash at least 3-4 times a week but daily is good too, you just need to use a gentle shampoo. "Training your hair" to produce less oil is a myth. It didn't become a big thing until dry shampoos hit the market and I feel like it's been perpetuated by the beauty industry just as much as any other beauty trend.

Dermatologists explained in a video about how often should you wash your hair and they said it depends on your hair/scalp (I mean.. obviously) Washing your hair every day is fine and washing it once a week is also fine. It just depends on your hair and scalp conditions.

Just an fyi, if you have thinning hair, it probably IS NOT thinning because you're not washing it enough or using some kind of treatments. It's usually hormones, genes, age or some kind of medical condition/deficiency you have or even manual stress because you're too harsh for your hair.
You can go to a head spa for relaxation and treating yourself but don't feel like you NEED this for scalp and hair health. Massages and treatments are ofc beneficial but not mandatory. I know they need to sell this treatment so they get you to come back but I feel like there was a lot of misinformation here. Still enjoyed the video, like every Saf vid.

After watching this, I went and bought a silicone scalp massager, and I added rubbing plain lotion into my scalp as a first step after wetting my hair in the shower. So I massage the lotion on, rinse, shampoo, massage, rinse, use my dandruff shampoo, massage, rinse, condition everywhere. While conditioner is on, I was and shave and all that fun stuff. My scalp feels better, my hair stays cleaner longer, it's thicker and growing back and is way curlier and less frizzy than it was. I do a 'sailor shower' and only run the water as I need it, because this is 30 minutes easy. But I only do it once a week, because my hair looks and feels cleaner longer, even with a little product in. Thank you. I would never have thought of 'cold cream' on my scalp or that a massage was important without this video.

So in Japan, it's traditional to wash pretty close to once a day because of the way our natural hair produces oil and our strands lay (basically, it traps oil in and having dark strands, it's very visible). Cleanliness is the main goal for all Japanese beauty, so for centuries, we have been washing pretty frequently (the only change was during wartime, when there were soap shortages...there's a story of my obaachan putting egg whites in her sisters' hair, like a mousse, and them not being able to get it out with the cheap army supplied soap for weeks lol).
I personally wash my hair every day (and use a shampoo scrubber, sooooo satisfying) as I have since I was a child (raised by a Japanese mom) but apply conditioner to only the ends (if I use anything stronger than a light conditioner, my hair turns into a curtain of instant grease). Once I stopped sleeping on pillows that had dirty hair on it too, my acne pretty much disappeared, so it helps with that too. Rice water has also been a traditional ingredient to wash hair with that helps keep it strong and shiny without weighing it down.
But just like skin care only works when individualized to the person's skin, there's no "treat all" for hair/scalp care. I just know this does work pretty well for specifically Japanese heads of hair lol.

@@copiumforthepeople it’s normal to shed 80-100 hairs a day actually. The reason it looks like you’re shedding double if you wash less frequently is just because you’re not touching your hair as much in between, so when all the parts that have already shedded come out in the shower, it looks like way more.
Your scalp also needs oils to stay healthy and daily shampoos will strip that away
There’s a reason why people who wash their hair every day will get insanely greasy if they condition the scalp even a little and it’s because when your scalp and skin are dry your skin produces more oils to try and make up for it. Instead try washing less and letting your skin take care of itself instead of stripping it every day

Heck, channels that focus on kinky hair suggest massaging your scalp to get MORE sebum production and to move it further down the hair shaft. It would be different if you were putting powered foundation over your parts in your wig, used a lot of styling products, or hadn't washed your hair in several months, but you haven't don'e those things, so having that layer of "buildup" is normal and HEALTHY for your scalp and hair

100% agree, i honestly don’t trust a lot of the info she’s sharing. just seems like she’s trying to get more people to get scalp cleanings lol

this really bothered me too. I wasn't a fan of how Arisa was talking to Safiya about her scalp as if she's lazy, dirty and balding. You explained it perfectly in your comment.

Yeah, I got white hairs pretty early in life (I was only 12) and most of my doctors told me it’s only genetics (and my mom got them early too), but some hairstylists told me it was something wrong with my hair like “no, thanks”

Hair thinning is indeed an issue but since a have it I'm certain that Safiya is more than fine ✌️ A suggestion of washing the hair more frequently and massaging it in the shower with hot water to help cleanse would be fine. She was definitely over exaggerating 😶😶
